The Jackie special today is outstanding. They are playing when his cat Timmy died right now.

So if you wanna think of the whole Howard/Artie's Date Setup controversy as having gone down over the course of two segments, HTV speaking, I now have fully watched the first one when this Jen girl initially comes into the studio, and my opinion is kind of split.

Basically I think both sides (Howard VS Artie, if you will) were in the wrong here to certain degrees. While deep down I don't think at all that Howard set this up on the radio to make it play like some "Arties pathetic and needs help and it'll be funny, so let's have it go down on the air" segment, but having said that, the core of what Artie was trying to say I think was true -- if it's a situation about genuinely meeting someone to see if there's a vibe and how far that can be taken, yea sure it may've made for great radio, but c'mon, something like that can't take place on the fucking radio without there being a possible downside, like there was. Artie likely felt VERY much put on the spot, it gave the whole thing an awkwardness that it wouldn't have otherwise have had, it just should've been setup for Artie in more of a private way.

But on the other hand, and I think this just goes right on par with how Artie's general behavior has been lately, he was way out of line acting directly towards the girl as he was and saying that shit to her. His built in bitterness from all the other mounds of crap he's got in his life right now ended up making him be a complete dick to a girl that seemed quite genuine and very sweet.

I did feel kinda bad for Gange though when she came right out with that anvil on the head about him not being attractive :p :lol

So yea all in all I do'nt think one of them deserves to have the finger pointed at them any more than the other, but I'll now go and watch the episode from the very next day and see what I think then...

Artie makes 5 digits a show. I highly doubt Corolla is making that. Not to mention the exposure he would get. He's making and writing movies, what better promotion could he get than mentioning it at the end of the Howard Stern show to 6 million people? Look at where Artie's career went since he joined. ANYONE would be foolish to turn that sidekick job down unless their career is winding down and they don't care about money and promotion.
Are you sure about this? Unless he got a 500% increase in salary when they went to Sirius, that's not the case. Back in '05 he mentioned on the air that he only made about 400k a year. And last year on Sirius he hinted that he was making a little bit more on satellite (around 500k)...which comes out to around 2500 a show.

They do approximately 200 shows a year...if he made 10k a show, that'd put him at 2 mil./year.

Corolla makes a couple mil. a year from his radio gig.

still waiting for part 2 from junior......

Wow, someone's actually looking forward to my reporting on something? I don't know what to say :o :lol

Well I have by now watched the 2nd part. I feel though taking the segment in overall, considering how it started, I didn't think it ended all that badly. Like, true okay, I think from now on there will always be something different in Howard's & Artie's "relationship", but hell during the thick of that segment it was so bad and uncomfortable it was like I could've seen Artie literally walking out right in the middle of it. But things seemed to calm down considerably after awhile and with more of a light tone. By the end I do'nt necessarily think Howard & Robin were thinking/saying Artie was a complete and total pussy for the want to take 6 months off and that would help everything (as opposed to what Howard was suggesting that he at least get into therapy right here and now, see what affect that has by Janurary and that basically stay on the show but have the time to figure his personal shit out). For what it's worth I do think that Artie is now considering therapy at his most serious level ever, but who knows I could be completely naive on that.

But by the end at hte very least, I felt H & R had a better understanding of where Artie was coming from, that internally he feels he could very well be on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and they seemed kinda encouraged that he knows even himself he needs to do something major to help "fix" himself. From the sounds of it, and hell I've never met Artie but I think Steve could very well be right, Artie absolutely NEEDS to take this time away at this point.

And lastly though he didn't spell this out, I'm assuming Artie's meaning with the whole sabbatical would be that he'd leave for his 6 months, but by no means just expect that he'd have his position back after it. That if he was finished and returned and they wanted him and had room for him, he'd do it, but if not then he'd completely understand and go about other endeavors.

I'm not entirely sure who I'd want in that chair permanantly. There were a lot of days with Graig Gass in that chair that I nearly drove off the road from laughing so hard at his impressions (I recall one day in particular I was full on in gobs of tears as he was doing Al Pacino's baby), but admittedly I don't know if he'd work long term. I'm not a Doug Stanhope fan AT ALL. Granted it may have to do with me discovering him under poor conditions, there was this Girls Gone Wild video they used him for where he was like travelling all over the country, and I swear as much as half of the actual screentime (if not more) was just him doing his not-funny "banter" with girls instead of seeing them topless. I was watching thinking like "WTF??? Do they honestly believe the people watching htis video want to see more than 10 straight seconds of his "routine"? If AT ALL?? So that immediately turned me off on the guy (well and plus The Man Show Redux was just pathetic).

:thumbsup to Craig Gass. He was actually on that ABC show tonight called "The Next Best Thing" about celebrity impersonators. He did Al Pacino and killed it of course (also did Kinison & Tom Arnold). He made it into the next round. If Artie takes time off, I'd love to see Craig in the chair...or Dave Attell, but I don't think Dave would do it.

Oh really? I saw the commercial for it and it seemed like the angle was it was all just regular people. I dunno.. I mean, mind you I swear off ALL reality TV, I've never watched it and never will, but that seems kinda unfair, a professional stand up I'm thinking maybe shouldn't be allowed to compete in something like that. But maybe I got the whole concept wrong from how I saw the ad.

edit: and the one day in particular I was saying that he was REALLY killing, I even remember Vinny Favale(sp?) called in to say like please stop the bit because he was also laughing so hard that he literally almost crashed his car while he was driving. Gass had the entire studio in stiches with that whole routine (which, one part of it had to do with something like Steven Seagal trying to molest the baby.. fucking riot :lol )

Oh my god yes I would be ALL OVER that. Especially since they got the rights to all the KROCK tapes. They should use it for that.

I'm not sure any of his routines were in the all request weekend last year. I didn't get to hear any live of course, but I later DL'd a completely collection of all of them in mp3s and I don't think I recall any of his being included.

So I just got done finally watching the Win Fred's Money episode with the hottie Jennifer. For one thing.... holy shit :ugh Now I don't necessarily agree with Artie that she was within the top 5% of hottest chicks they've EVER had in (what can I say, just my personal type), but the stuff she's done, so comfortable with the threesomes and getting off on watching her boyfriend full on fucking this other girl right next to her. Damn.

But with Artie, once again.. *sigh* Even if he would've supposedly gone out to her after the segment and told her it was all in good fun, he was "just kidding" about the money offer, etc, I think he was dead serious about trying to get her to have sex with him for all those offers. And here's the thing - if it was just for the sake of the radio, I actually don't think that's all that funny, especially considering everything else that's going on with him, I just consider it more and more leechy and creepy. :shrug

God knows I love Howard plenty, but I watched the Tobey Maguire interview episode yesterday, and to hear him say Spidey 3 was as fantastic as it was, and yet several people in there said BATMAN BEGINS was "mediocre"... good lord :ugh I love the guy but he's got just horrible fucking taste. Then again what am I saying, why is this a surprise, with all the goddamn reality shit that he's so obsessive about watching like a 15 year old girl :lol

I had to do the paperwork for Miss Howard Stern today. Holy shit is she a mess. She was absolutely wasted and she was taking some pills too. Afterwards she was walking around with her tits and ass hanging out, so that was pretty cool. But my god, what an effed up girl.

Hmm really? I find that a bit surprising, only because even on the NUMEROUS times she's clearly been drunk in the studio, she still was aware of herself enough to purposely not give in to any pressure and show any real skin, she'd always seemed to me to be fairly guarded about that.

I was actually quite surprised on how good the Maroon 5 cover way. He's got a decent voice when he's just playing and singing rather then the poppy shit we hear on the radio.

Cornell is always a great guest.

While performing a search just now for some information about some of the old Channel 9 shows, I happened to come across this auction at Sell.com --

http://www.sell.com/2V5P1

It's for a complete 23 DVD set of the entire series of the WWOR Channel 9 show, all 69 episodes in one box set for $129.99. Though I'm not sure this is completely legal... :shrug It sounds like, while yea the people that put this together did so in as professional manner as they could will full interactive menus and high compression rate and all that, it still sounds like just in the end a fan(s) who took their own time to compile this and are now trying to sell copies.

junior94
06-20-2007, 08:23 PM

http://www.ioffer.com/i/HOWARD-Stern-CHANNEL-9-show-All-69-Episodes-on-15-DVDs-6860346

But look at how the guy words it:

"You are not bidding on the contents on the CD, you are bidding on the time it took me to figure out how to put these shows on DVD, material costs and my time."

:lol :lolDude are you serious?? Yea, because putting in that disclaimer will totally stand up in court... :rolleyes :p

So right now I'm watching the episode that was from October of 2002 when they were playing "The Nearlywed Game" (well, that's what Vinny kept calling it as the host, but the graphics in the studio called it "Newlyweird") and lordy, looking at this frankly you wonder how Robin and Mr.X didn't break up long before just a couple months ago. Holy shit, I never knew that Dana had a cameo in BEER LEAGUE. At least, I'm almost positive that was her. I'm finally here watching it for the first time with the 2 disc DVD, and the scene in the diner when Cara Buono comes in drunk with her girlfriends (which, phew I've had a crush on Buono for years now, ever since "Hulk" I think was the first time I saw her, playing Bruce's mom in flashbacks), the one where you can clearly see the other girl's face, granted her hair was much blonder but it sure as hell looked like Dana. She even had a line I think, saying something like "fuck you, bitch" when Buono asked her for some change. But damn I'm not sure which one I'd say is hotter, Buono or Dana, both of them are smokin cute in my opinion.

Oh totally different subject but there's a detail of the show I've always wondered about, and now that we've got Steve the insider I can ask him :D
When someone wins money, ya know when they've got like $500 to give away to someone from a current movie sponsor or from an advertiser or whatever -- the money the listener get is taxed, right? The person doesn't walk out of there with a wad of cash (or check) that's exactly the full amount of what they won, right?

lennon2324

It gets taxed eventually. They would get the full amount when they leave the studio, but would have to claim it on their taxes if it's over a certain amount (which I believe is 1 grand). If you win a few hundred bucks playing the lotto or in a casino, you don't have to claim it on your taxes. It's only when the amount of winnings exceeds a certaint amount that you have to have taxes taken out.

Oh okay so basically the same principle as doing a 1099 at the end of the year. I gotcha. I've had years of having to take care of that, particularly when I was doing most of my freelance commercial production work in LA.

Ya know, as much as I love the show and everyone on it (well, just about everyone, Robin still annoys the living fuck outta me plenty :p ) I've come to realize they've largely got some weird and just god awful taste in their entertainment, be it movies, TV or music. I mean for christsake, look at the grand pubah, he's like 53 years old and he's got the Tivo schedule of a 14 year old girl with all his fuckin Dancing With the Stars and American Idol bullshit. :lol

I loved watching the Steven Van Zandt episode last night and hearing Artie go off on American Idol, and the idea of Springsteen possibly doing it, I mean he and I couldn't possibly be more in agreement in general philosophy on this.

exactly right. that was the second main part of lou's character arc for the whole 2nd season (the first part with him trying to get over being scammed by the hooker), that he was seriously considering retiring from the fire department and he was going to go work on his cousin's (artie) boat. but the first day he went out to check it out he realized he had no sea legs at all, he could barely walk down the pier to even get to the boat :lol

I can't even explain how much of a trainwreck Andrea was. She had 5 bottles of pills, and those are just the ones her "babysitter" Theresa could find in Andrea's bag, she hides more in other places. She has 3 months tops. Howard keeps talking about this Miss Howard Stern reality show but I don't think Doug Goodstein wants to even do it anymore because of liability factor. I don't blame him.

Got a new car with XM in it......goodbye Sirius and Stern.

There are simple conversions - all you have to do is buy a new "receiver" not a new deck. I believe Robin mentioned she bought a new car and had them do the switch as the car she bought had XM.

I bought an Alpine head unit (only has XM listed) and bought a special "receiver"...now the only down side is that my unit always says XM on the radio when it loads.

You made the rundown Steve :)

"Howard asked if Ronnie could name all the male interns, and Ronnie said no but admitted he could name all the female interns. Artie concluded that Ronnie just wanted a lot of “hot broads” at his party. An intern named Steve came in and asked what he did to piss Ronnie off. Steve said he'd love to come see the stilt-walker and “hilarious” karaoke, but Ronnie claimed he hadn't invited Steve because he hadn't seen him."

An Mp3 would be awesome because there's no way I'm going to catch the replay and their are tight asses about giving out copies of the show.

The absolute best part happened after the show. Howard stopped me in the hall and told me I did a great job for an intern. He said I didn't sound nervous and that I got everyone in the room to laugh which he says means more than anything on this show. Me and him chatted for a bit, but thats something I will NEVER forget.

I was hoping they'd get some pics of me up on the website rundown because Jason sure took e-damn-nough of them. Hopefully its on Howard TV too. Thanks guys.

I've heard that they've approached Dave to be on the show in the past - specifically over at K-Rock and Dave turned them down. Is that true? Dave was at K-Rock everytime the band was in NYC and he's been to Sirius since they've been there.

I heard that from someone who used to work at K-Rock. Have you heard anything.

I can't really speak for Mutt himself, but during the short time a few months back that I spent looking around SFN (haven't gone there in awhile), it was incredible, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a larger group of just complete internet trolls and people who had their own really bizarre little clique that god forbid you said something they thought was useless or beneath them in some way (which was just about everything). I mean I saw questions asked by people who were quasi-new to the place and were frankly perfectly reasonable things to be asked, and not only did these poster whores with apparently no outside lives whatsoever jump all over them, but they did it practically in a language that you couldn't even possibly understand, since they all have their own retarded way of "communicating".

It was a very, very weird place. :freak

edit: and ya know I just thought, it's rather ironic that the place is called the Stern Fan Network after all, because though obviously I don't really claim to know anything more about Howard's psychie than anyone else, but I PROMISE YOU, in the real world Howard would not want to have anything at all possibly to do with about 98.5% of these people :p :D

You got that right. I've listened to Howard for years and I love the show - but it seems like no one calls him out when deserved and none of the SFNers seem to have any idea he pulled the wool over their eyes with his Sirius deal. He could give a rats ass about everyone on SFN.

Well, hang on a sec. I wonder if you might've partially misunderstood me.
Although, first off I have no idea what you're talking with "none of the SFN'ers realize Howard pulled the wool over their eyes with the Sirius deal", what do you mean?

But all I meant by the remark that in the real world Howard would want to have nothing to do with most of those poeple is because you can tell after just spending a half hour on there that most of them are goddamn freaks :p :lol Like I was alluding to with the trolls and their own language remarks, they collectively are a very unique brand of weird (& no shortage of outright assholes and douchebags), so that's why I was saying if he ever ran into them on the street he'd "head for zee heeells" :D

And as to the thing with the comparing of the women.. well I can't recall ever seeing Bubba's wife, and with Beth, yea it's not like I consider her unnattractive, but personally she's just not my type AT ALL, so I'm not attracted to her in the least. But you're right in a way, and I've seen Mutt and them use the rationale that "this is a place for Stern fans, so we don't want to hear about people here just to trash him and the show" as for why they'll try to muzzle people and even perhaps ban them, but there are plenty more subtle cases than that. I mean yea I consider myself a big Howard fan, but if I wanted to post about something on there that was a legitimate and constructive criticism about a thing on the show or directly about him, just for something as simple as that they're ready to completely lynch you, it's pathetic. It's almost like it becomes one giant facist Howard stroke session -- No Dissenting Opinions Need Apply.

Whatever. :rolleyes

I try and avoid DMBc for that very reason. Call me crazy but I don't bitch about setlists and such, I'm just grateful that I get to see my favorite band every summer. That's good enough for me.

Ya know, as much crap as I give nDMBc, and deservedly so, the small amount of time I've ever gone into DMBc recently has been downright jawdropping. Shit I remember when it finally became like definitely official that Dave was gonna guest star on the episode of "House" last season (which, it had already been talked about plenty by then even w/o direct confirmation) I went over there out of curiosity, and I'd say within a span of no more than 3-4 hours, there had to have been literally almost 15 separate NEW threads started all talking about it.

And oh boy if there's a show taking place that's got a good setlist going, forget about it. While Camden night 2 was happening, there was someone (and not a newbie either, though I forget his name now) who started up a thread on nothing more than how awesome the first two songs were as a show opener, than 15 to 20 minutes later the same member started up ANOTHER NEW THREAD, this one about nothing more than now how the first FOUR SONGS (yes, including the first two again) was this like "end all, be all" way to open a show. Seriously.

Mind you, there's no shortage of things that bug the hell out of me about Matt Yette the Mod here, but I do believe I actually felt a little sorry for him that night, because he was locking threads up left and right (and for once, rightfully so), each one would take one tiny little detail about the show, or simply to say how "awesome this is!!!", and it was just one after another. And this is all besides of course the official show's thread in the tour section. Unbelievable. :ugh

junior94
08-13-2007, 02:33 AM
good show today, got me wondering....is penny crone still with the news team or is she gone??? and i don't know if anyone answered me ? last week about ralph howard not doing updates anymore...did something happen that i missed with those two?

It's funny because I was thinking that exact same thing like a week ago. As I've said a million times I'm only exposed to the show as far as all the HTV segments that I download then watch (& yes you better believe I've got them all saved up ;) ), I don't listen to the everyday audio (though I could just as easily download an mp3 of the entire day's show that night), but it had occurred to me that I hadn't seen her in any of the episodes for awhile, like not even in the background when the camera goes out into the hall.

Should have canned Lisa G. instead

Hmm, I always kinda liked Lisa G., but again, you guys who listen all the time would know much better than I about how annoying she may be. Even though I have as little as I do, I find it very strange that anyone would prefer to have Penny Crone there over Lisa (though given the show, maybe you'd want that solely for the entertainment value for when she used to go off and get so overdramatic :D

The thing bout the Howard 100 News team always sounding so dramatic though, speaking of that, I mean that doesn't really surprise me, like when you think about it after awhile it's gotta be touch sometimes to keep coming up with so much material that seems relevant, when you're talking about only reporting on stuff that has to do with the Howard "universe", so surely they're going to start to make it all sound so much more involved and dramatic than it actually is, almost more like they're putting on a parody show of news radio instead of the real thing.

No more Sirius for me. XM's been pretty good so far though.

XM's the home of Opie & Anthony though, right? You can't possibly be saying you'd prefer them over Howard, are you? Or is it just everything else that's there.
