the history of howard is so good...when the hell are there going to be new ones though??
ps--the anal ring toss on howard tv is great...so was the chuck zito interview
I think the news ones are being saved for the Christmas break. I thought for sure they would give them to us during this break, but apparently they aren't ready to give us new stuff. You would think they had plenty of time to get it ready. I think they even have a whole department dedicated to the TAPES.

I loved Beetlejuice password. They were trying to describe window, so the girl says "sill"...and beetle goes "Phone"...hahah
I don't mind the vacations. He can take 3 months off for all I care, as long as he doesn't retire (those words scare me for both Howard and Dave!).

i don't know if anyone else caught it the other day but on one of the howard 100 news briefs about the iraq trip, they say how the base they were stationed at came under attack and they had to be put into a bunker while it passed. can't wait to hear that story. at least artie is alive

I heard about the attack. They probably saw Baba Baghdad's teeth and smelled his breath, so they knew where the crew was hiding. Stupid Baba Bomby.

I actually just got a hold of that particular HTV segment a few weeks ago, it was a pretty good watch.
Does anyone else think that Howard and everyone else are basically enabling Artie at this point to only get worse? I mean, I know it's a fine line, because deep down I believe that Howard absolutely cares about Artie and genuinely considers him a friend, and in a general sense wants him to get better, but at the same time, obviously it makes for great radio over and over, but this perpetual thing of having Artie be able to sleep at points during the show (I'm watching the Carly Simon interview now) and different examples like that, I just think ultimately that's only putting more fuel on the fire. That if Howard could in his mind fully separate Artie's welfare from the comedy value of the show, he would tell him straight up that he needs either to take time off the show to get these things taken care of, or at the very least he wouldn't keep making things like Artie falling asleep part of the show that fans end up consistantly laughing at (hence motivating him to keep it up).

Though what one of you was saying about Howard apparently cutting off some of the Iraq stories (since I couldn't listen live), as much as I say he's still the best interviewer on the planet, this is a major shortcoming of his that bothers me sometimes as a listener. That when he's talking to a guest, they'll be answering a question he's asked, and yet right in the middle of it he'll cut them off totally, even asking a competely different question. Granted, I know probably in his mind sometimes he thinks he's doing the right thing, that he could tell the segment was going on a downwards slope so that's his remedy for it, but not always, plenty of times I really wanted to hear the person's answer, it was plenty interesting, and the rest of it ends up getting lost because of Howard going ADD on us.

Do you guys know that Howard has hired a guy named the Electric Eel Man to phone in fake calls to make his show more interesting?
About 10 years ago, we all listened to Stern, then he got divorced and started calling it in. 4 days a week? Are you guys morons to pay for your hero who only works 4 days a week? 12 weeks vacation? You've got to be kidding me.
What made Howard, and all radio hosts, great was his ability to relate to a common fan. That went out the door when he left his wife and started screwing a gold digger with a horse face. Wake up and realize stories about the Hamptons and Nobu just don't make compelling radio period. Howard jumped that shark many moons ago; tis a shame you guys just don't realize.

voiceofreason - i know exactly where you're coming from, because i felt the same way for a while.
i am a fan of o&a, as well as howard, but i decided to give howard another shot, and i have to be honest with you, his sirius show is pretty amazing.
now i know, his last days at k-rock (or wherever you heard him on terrestrial radio) were kinda shitty, but the show went in an entirely different direction when they went to satellite.
new cast members, great guests, complelling interviews, new material, artie is on fire (when he's not sleeping :lol)...sure, there are the occasional name-drops and references to his "hamptons parties" or dinners at fancy places, but what do you want? he's rich and famous. he's talking about his life...he's not an average joe, like the common listener, but he actually makes it interesting and funny for said listener.
he's really got a good thing going on satellite right now, and i recommend checking out a download or 2 from various torrent sites, just to see what's new on the show.
you might be pleasantly surprised.
anyhow, thats just my .02.

"The fact of the matter is", Howard's show is still great. He is obviously going to be a changed man w/ a model girlfriend and 9 figures banked. The person you relate to now is Artie (even though he is making bank now too). And can you blame him for taking so much vacation and 4 days a week.
For me, being a lifelong Howard fan, I'd rather have him a few days a week for 9 months than not at all.
P.S. Mantra + Yantra = Tantra.

Well that's where you're wrong. I do care about the issue because I realize how great Stern used to be. I also realize that satellite radio as a whole will start to suck if this merger goes through. Stern doesn't care about you and I hate to see good people care about him, that's all. This is, after all, a discussion thread. Me discussing my beef with Howard seems to belong here, correct? Kind of sad a mod tries to mute a voice that presents discussion in a respectable fashion. I have not insulted your mother, slapped your child or let the air out of your tires..... yet. ;)
I love talk radio for some reason. I listen to sports radio, NPR, Air America, Hannity, etc. Stern is responsible for so much and is the true forefather of great radio, I just don't like the person he seems to have become. And he doesn't like DMB, so he stinks for that alone. :)
All in all, Sirius has better programming than XM. The music chanels are far superior. i just don't buy into this faux "revolution", that's all.

You don't like Howard anymore. Wonderful. I do.
I think the show is as good, if not better, now than it has ever been. The show makes my mornings enjoyable and I love that if I miss something I can hear the replay throughout the day.
I know everything always used to be better, Howard, DMB, MLB, terrestrial radio, America, that is the way it is.

Why will Sat. radio suck if they merge? The way I look at it, you'll still get the same programming for the same price, plus you can choose what channels you want. And you'll get all the sports. Competition with eachother is not what is making satellite radio great right now, it is competition w/ FM...No commercials, uncensored, etc...

Dude, over a million people bought Sirius units the quarter Stern switched over. I do not have the exact figures, but they had under a million total subscribers before. Stern clearly brought alot of sub, period. I think paying a guy 500 mil. and him not bringing subs is asinine. He absolutely is responsible for increasing their brand recognition and largely responsible for a good deal of their success.

My point is that even if you payed just for stern:
A. When he's not live, they still have great Stern programming on the air.
B. There's a shit-ton of other stuff to on Sirius listen to besides Stern.
So, why would one be an idiot for paying $12.99/month, considering all the great Stern and non-Stern content?

I listened to Howard from 93 - 95, and then just got bored. How many times can you hear jokes about farting and tits? Even the guys get bored after awhile. And that was my point- Stern essentially saved Sirius. You will not hear me objecting to that. But the thought that a million zombies didnot buy Sirius just for Stern is ignorant at best.
This is where I lost my respect for Stern: I listened to Stern and O&A. I learned at some point that Stern was so threatened by O&A that he had a gag order issued against them before they ever had a disparaging thing to say about him. They both worked for CBS in NYC, but in different time slots. Shit hit the fan when Stern's 13 year old daughter went to Zootopia (a Z-100 event), took some E and woke up in a subway car being groped by a bunch of men. She then ended up in the hospital getting her stomach pumped. O&A, seeing the humor in all of this, went on the air, speaking about this in thinly veiled tones. Stern (rightfully) threw a temper tantrum and the gag order was heavier than before.
To a zombie like you, you do not see the point. Let me spell it out for you- your "Hero of Free Speech" put a muzzle on those he was threatened by instead of competing against them like the young Stern would. This is the ame Stern who talked about skull fucking Mancow's dead dad or who ruined Dibella in Philly just because he was competition. The hypocrisy of this officially turned me off Stern.

You are funny fighting some fight in your own head.
That is all well and good. I like O&A. I loved them at NEW. When both shows were on simultaneously I liked O&A's show more than Howard's on most days.
Howard is not my savior, I don't think he is always right, I hate his taste in TV, movies and a lot of music. If we were to ever end up in the same social circle we would probably have nothing to say to each other because we have almost nothing in common.
I just like his show. I hate having to get up in the morning and his show makes it easier. It's tough to make me laugh in the morning and he does it every day.
If I am a zombie for liking Howard's show than I am also a zombie for baseball, C cups, beer, hot summer days, pizza and DMB.

Ah, you're one of those O&A sheep. Now it all makes sense.

But the thought that a million zombies didnot buy Sirius just for Stern is ignorant at best.
And also that's not what I said. I was speaking from personal experience, not speaking for the million other people that subscribed....also, I clarified my argument, which you ignored as well.

Me too! Except that I never liked O&A. And I like his taste in everything.
And he along w/ Dave is my savior :lol

So I'm not sure how long ago the Ronnie Roast was done, I only just got a hold of the HTV segment now, and taking a look. For one thing (even considering things in the present) isn't Ronnie married? Or am I just making that up? Because all the things he does surrounding the strippers, I always wonder how his wife must feel about that.
But also, I have a very morbid curiosity to know what Bob Levy's normal standup act is like, how it sounds, because all's I know his watching any one of these roasts that he leads, good god, his delivery is awful on just an EPIC scale. He's got so much of this nervous energy to him that he can never let a single joke breath for 2 seconds. I kind of think he'd maybe actually be kinda funnier if he had better cadence. And it's not just the horrible mispronunciation of so many words, he goes immediately into another joke literally as soon as the last word of the previous one is out of his mouth. This is the worst delivery I've ever heard of some type of comedy since watching Colin Quinn as the Weekend Update anchor on SNL.

I love getting these songs stuck in my head. Yesterday I got home from work, and I had just listened to Robin's news song of the day - The music to "Cotten Eyed Joe", but instead of saying the actual words, it was "I want to get in Robin's Tight Hole"....so I walk in and just start singing those lyrics over and over, and my g/f comes in from the other room and says "Who's hole do you want to get in?"...haha
But she understands how much I love Howard so she was laughing once I explained it.

I saw Levy last summer, and almost had to leave. His material wasn't funny at all. He does a lot of crowd work, and it's terrible. ZERO humor and irritating.
Quinn on the other hand, is a great stand up. i've seen him a bunch of times, and he always has fresh material and is very topical. he does have a horrible delivery though, but i think it's just him choking on his neck fat.

Well and I gotta think, the whole eating blue cheese out of a chick's ass on stage... how is that not insanely old by now? I don't see even the slightest bit of humor in that. It's almost as bad a gimmick that I'd guess he's a slave to as Yucko's entire presentation.
Colin, I seem to enjoy him in other forums, he's good when he's on Stern, but just that way he always read off the SNL news, it was unwatchable. I think overall he was even worse an anchor than Kevin Nealon.

Howard is washed up and calls it in (4 days a week for 500 mil; gotta admire the guy) but many have not realized that yet.
Opie and Anthony do a great show, but the Sex for Sam thing really did them in, regardless of their situation now. They always teetered on the line of indecency and now that the line has been moved to the more holier side, they aren't what they used to be. They will get the shit end of the stick in the merger and I think that may be a good thing as they can put all their attention to the FM show.

I hope you all realize that the reason why these stipulations were put in place was to protect us, the satellite subscribers.
When Sirius and XM were launched, there was specific literature in their agreements that forbade them to merge in order to not monopolize the satellite industry. The fear with a monopoly is that they will be able to set their own rules and pricing for there is no second option. With that said, merging is bad for the consumer because the competition that keeps companies honest is now gone.
Now the public programming is probably the FCC's way of trying to have some form of control over satellite programming, but that's another subject.

Yeah I understand your argument, but I really don't think it is a monopoly since their real competition is free radio, ipods, cd players, etc...So I think the company should have the right to raise the price if they want to. With all the other ways to listen to programming, Satellite radio probably will not raise the rate too much anyway, but they should have the option.
The whole public programming thing is so ridiculous.

i got a question. what do you think the salaries of the staff who work behind the scenes is? everyone knows the main 4 and gary make a ton, but what about everyone else. i'd have to guess that will, sal and richard are next (not counting goodstein and sabean and them) and you always hear about how jd doesn't have running water for weeks. but i can't imagine he would make that little working there.

These are just estimates based on show conversations...I'm sure others, especially some of the former interns, can offer better guesses:
JD: 30-40k
Sal/Richard: 50-75k
Will: 60-90k
Who knows.

But yea I remember they joked about what the fallout would be awhile back, that if they broke up how awkward it'd be and if they could have him back on, interesting to see how that'll play out now in reality.

Hey Steve yea that was me. Umm, the video of you, that was probably part of a Howard TV segment I had already gotten for my collection, so yea I likely have it on one of my discs. I have every one listed in a Word file by what the segment was about, so do you happen to remember? I know that at least that part was somehow Ronnie related, but I'm not sure if the whole thing would've been about him. Anyways I doubt I have the audio file left but you could always make one off that video.
This Jesse Ventura interview is damn good
Really? I'll be curious to check that out, then. I just know that Preston & Steve had him on a call-in interview last month and it was basically a failure, pretty much all he kept wanting to talk about was 9/11, I didn't realize he's won of these "truthers" who's moronic to actually believe that our country orchestrated that and there's been an ongoing conspiracy the whole time, so he just came off as annoying and incredibly stupid. (& they do pretty well usually at keeping heavily political material off their show)
Having said that he is a source of a quote I quite enjoyed from somewhere a few years ago, saying something like "religion is for small minded people who need safety in numbers" (paraphrasing).

Oh and I haven't for quite awhile now, but for a short time several months ago I was posting on the SFN for a bit, and surfing there, mostly the Howard TV. My experience was there was just a tremendous amount of trolls there. I mean christ I thought there was a lot of people here who'd post the most stupid and random shit and believe it was comic genius, but that place was off the hook.
On negativity actually the sense I got was that people wanted to be able to criticize the show more often but the Mods would delete posts and/or ban people at even the slightest amount of it, that like you could only post there if you were fellating the show with every word you say. Which, don't get me wrong, obviously if you're on a place like that you'd think overall you were a big fan of the show, but I don't think there's anything wrong with if something bothers you, you don't like the way a segment went or something like that, you should be able to bring it up and discuss it, but TPTB were so quick to stile ANY kind of negativity, it seemed a little extreme.

Both Hogan and his wife are so sadly fucked up. If I heard correctly, she's dating a guy who's friends with the daughter Brooke (& maybe even she dated previously herself?) and meanwhile Hulk is dating a girl that's around the same age as Brooke and apparently looks disturbingly like her.

Personally I find it kinda scary that not only did the guys used to hold her up as pretty much THEE gold standard of a hot woman, but I think that they still kinda do. I've always thought she was waaaaay overrated (& yes I know even I myself have chastised Ants for beating that term to death), but I mean she literally is a Barbie doll. I'm not saying I thought she wasn't attractive at her peak, but the standard to which all other girls are measured? Not even remotely close. In my view they always gave her way too much credit.

They are off on Friday's all year round. I do like the "best-of" on Friday's now, much better than MTT. I just don't like that old stuff, once it has passed it has passed, especially when they reference out-of-date stuff. But in case I miss something during the week, the new thing helps out a bit.
