What is the last great acoustic riff (in standard tuning) that dave has wrote? It seems like the older stuff was more guitar driven then most of the newer material. I was listening to Live in Luther the other day and it reminded me of all the good riffs dave has wrote:
Ants Marching
LIOG
Warehouse
Stone
Jimi Thing
etc....
Do you guys think that dave has lost some of his passion or creativity on the guitar and looks for more of a full band sound now? What is the last "great" acoustic riff that dave has wrote (besides the stuff in raised b)???

if you count the Some Devil album...
of course Gravedigger...
most certainly Up Up Away
Otherwise, on DMB albums recently...plenty few...When the World Ends, BUsted Stuff(almost std tuning)...Stay...Grace is Gone...
Some probably almost count for a rythmic figure more than a riff but, close enough...
I can't account for Stand UP though...I'm still gettin' used to it.

Is there even a single chart off of Stand Up that has that raw Acoustic prescence?

Counting Some Devil, there's Up And Away, Stay Or Leave...
No awesome acoustic thing on Stand Up... the last great riffs I can remember are Fool To Think (he plays it acoustic live now), You Never Know, Busted Stuff...

The slow little jam at the end of WWYS on Luther is awesome and it goes right into Minarets, which makes it even better.

I agree with whoever said Fool To Think.... that song is musical genius, and the words are amazing to back it... and yes SOLO is the way to go this one, NOT the ED version

i like the dreamgirl riff. though playing it solo isn't too good it doesn't have the same feel without the band. stand up has a cool riff very kit kat jam like. i love the song stand up and love playing it. again not as great solo though. the riff in smooth rider is ok. i love hello again has a very different sound to it. there's a few.

I like Good good time, I don't think Dave has peaked yet. He's just not being challenged.

#40 And Butterfly, very easy chord progressions with amazing sound. He could replace every word with the word "crap" and they would still be great songs.
Check out Butterfly

^^Butterfly and #40 are probably the simplest and most beautiful riffs Dave has created. Especially on Butterlfy when it makes the transition into "Dream your tears away, butterfly" Such a great song.

how about satellite?
the chorus for fool to think
Raven anyone? I think Raven has some of the most unique chord changes to date.
Sugar will is a real good riff, whether you like the song or not.
the jam from the standup vids
Hello Again
Stay was also a good one, very intrested voicings that go oh so well together.
Stay or Leave-phenominal chorud progression(s)
the last stop-although easy chords, ca-razy riff
aaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Cry Freedom.
I am sort of using chords progressions here instead of all riffs. sorry.
and HOW THE HELL DID YOU FORGET RHYME AND REASON!?!?!?!

Also, I think the verse to Fool to Think is clever, but the chorus is just a decent repeating riff. I'm sure if most people in this forum put their minds to it, they could come up with something similar.

this post was inteded for the thread starter
hello again's main riff/tone is original for Dave
satelliete was also being directed toward the original poster asking why he didn't include satellite in his first list.
i dont know why you have to be a wise ass about everything. maybe you need to get laid or solve some internal conflicts. alot of your posts are funny but why pick at every little thing that you think is wrong?

I have to disagree on this one. The purpose of the chorus is to bring people back to a familiar place. Most choruses tend to be simple and repetitive. It's not like the choruses for Satellite, #41, Warehouse, Ants Marching, Billies, So Much to Say, WWYS, Stay or Leave are that complex or more creative than Fool to Think.
I think Fool to Think is a great tune and a great riff. I also have to agree with Raven. I would throw in Busted Stuff(accoustic).

I didn't say anything about complexity. I just implied that it was not impressive. Now the chorus to Dancing Nancies, at least there's something worth writing about.
But not here, because this is about cool riffs. Now taking the verse of So Much to Say against really anything written in the past 5 years shows what has been lacking.
