Im trying to learn how to play the guitar how should i learn i realy dont want to get lessons cause there expensive

I taught myself how to play. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of practice.

I have been playing for about a year and 9 months and within a year I had learned and could fully play about 75% of DMB. Now I have them all.

I would start out by mastering going from G to D. It sounds easy, but it took some practice to get that down. Learn the chords G, D, A, Am, E, C, Cadd9, Em, and try to learn F.

Here is a good site that will show you the chords.

www.christianguitar.org/chords.php

click on a chord and it will show it to you.

Good luck, don't get too frustrated and practice, practice, practice!

if you are realy into it for the long haul, pace yourself.... I am 26 and started when I was 13.... early on I wanted to quit just because I couldn't do the things I wanted.... (self-taught btw) BE PATIENT... that's the best advice I can give! do the internet search thing, you will learn alot online.

EDIT: GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! :thumbsup

don't make it a job... and don't do it to impress girls or your friends and relatives... If you really pick up a guitar for the music and just pace yourself and not overload it you'll enjoy it alot more and the more you enjoy something the better your chances of becoming exceptional at it :D.

Oh and find someone else to play with and learn with if it's possible. Teach your girl or maybe a friend would like to pick it up. Trust me, learning together makes it so much more enjoyable on different levels because interacting and evolving alongside someone makes it all worth while, you drive each other.

I'm going to be different here and say definitely take lessons, also it wouldn't hurt to learn some theory along with those lessons. It is important that you learn proper technique from the get-go, otherwise you'll never master the instrument. Some people downplay the importance of technique (proper grip, thumb placement, posture, chord positions) but I think it is key that you learn the proper technique.

I took lessons to get started for about 6 months, and I've been playing on my own since. I have to say the lessons gave me a great foundation, which is why I recommend that course of action for you.

once u get most of the open chords down and can transition quickly you can start playing some easy songs like petty

yeah. some people advance quickly, some not as fast.

all depends on how dedicated you are...and if you have that little umph it takes to be really good.

When the guitar gets to be too much, take a break and jack off.

Always remember that not everything comes easy and taking time away lends to new perspectives. When I was first learning, not like I'm still not because after 15 years I still suck, I walked away for a while when I couldn't get bar chords down. When I came back two weeks later, magically I could do it.

Have fun and hang in there.

I have the Guitar for Dummies DVD...it's like having your own private instructor. ( Cept' the dude is a bit dull) But, it's nice because you can pause it if needed. He teaches everything including finger picking ( although I havent gotten that far yet):ugh

And on my Cable, I have Guitar lessons on demand..........( vocal lessons if i want. :lol )

I was self-taught and I suck j/k i am getting alot better I play for about 3 hours a day just playing random chords. I started play Dave songs, and most people say you cant do that, but I did. After about a year of pratice I was play the Intro's to just about all the dave songs I could. now 2 years after that I am learning all the songs and geting alot better. The only Advise I would give you is to keep trying, and trying, pratice alot and never give up , no matter how much you think you suck.
