how many tracks can you record with it?2 at a time 4 main tracks and 8 virtual takes per track that adds up to a total of 32 takes for recording. If you are looking for something to start out with this is the way to go!

Hey, once upon a time most albums were recorded on a four track recorder.

Sometimes four is all you need. Listen to Sgt. Pepper's. Four track all the way.

Enjoy your new toy!! By the way, does it have built-in media capability or do you have to dump sound somewhere else?

Sgt. Pepper is a bit misleading though. While they did record the album on four tracks at a time, they did a LOAD of bouncing down tracks. I don't think there's a song that didn't fill up 3 or four tracks, bounce down to another machine, then fill up the other 3. My old Tascam portastudio could bounce down, but the quality loss was pretty bad so you had to actually think about how you would record. Depending on what you wanted to be heard you'd have to record those tracks last. I think Hard Day's Night and Rubber Soul are better examples of using a 4 track to its fullest potential without bouncing down. Not much bouncing down on Rubber Soul, yet it's still just as rock solid as Pepper in my opinion. Anyway, you got me started on my two favorite topics, recording and the Beatles. I better stop while I'm ahead.

Yeah, you're right. The point was that not too long ago all you had was four and you had to improvise. Also, some people can do more with four than others can do with sixty-four. Sometimes it's not the tools, it's the talent and the vision. As you certainly know!! BTW - where are you working, if you can divulge that sort of thing. IM me if you'd like.

You're definately right about people doing in four what some can't do in 64. I think George Harrison even said that they got really lazy during the White Album because they could just do take after take and overdub after overdub because they had 8 tracks and they wanted to fill them all. He also said it allowed for more sloppy play because if you fuck up you can always go back and re-track it. You lose that "we gotta get it right each and everytime" mentality and you don't play to your best potential.

As for where I'm working. I'm working for a sound production company outside of Austin. Doing mostly crappy local country acts, but have been priveledged enough to work with some really class act national acts. Biggest highlights so far... running sound for this no name opening band who showed up late yet rocked our socks off... Los Lonely Boys. Also meeting Boyd's tour bus driver at a show and getting a tour of the bus that Twix provided Boyd one year. Lots of fun. Sometimes work is a real headache, but all in all, I wouldn't trade it for anything!
