So, I guess I should give some background info. I live... *looks at avatar* Lake George, NY. My family has a close friend that, until this year, I thought was just some creepy guy that plays a cowboy. The guys name is Bill Mckay, but since about 1940, he's gone by "Wild Windy Bill McKay". What I didn't know about him was he played the part of a guitarslinging cowboy on many movies in the 40's and 50's. He also played guitar, piano, and accordian with Roy Rodgers for awhile.
OK, so today my grandfather, whom I live with, said we would drop by Bill's house after I got off work. When we get there, he has a guitar out. Cool.
After about an hour of banter and going through old pictures, he tells me... he's gonna give it to me. Give. GIVE!!! Not sell, give. Oh. My. God.
The guitar is an Epiphone, and according to Bill, he purchased it NEW in about 1938-9ish. He says that he remembers the date because in 1940, he entered the army, and he couldn't bring the guitar with him. The body is natural, and has pickups that were either new or installed in the 40's. It's just... mindblowing. The best day ever. Just thought I would share.
Oh, and hopefully pics to come.

That's neat. Hopefully it was taken care of. A pre-war guitar, wow!
That's great man.

Just got the time to look inside her (wow, never let me say that again...), and it's a Triumph, serial #19773, which I believe dates it around 38ish.

Well, my camera hates me. Blah. (Translation: Battery dead. Blah.)
So this is a pick I found online, which is the exact same as mine, year, finish, everything, but with two exeptions- Mine is in much better condition (I think a bear angrily mated with this one), and mine has what I am calling an "external electronics system". Which means the pickup is in the guitar, but the actual electronics hangs out of the F-hole.

Thats groovy dude. My girlfriend's grandfather has a 55 Gibson... he just passed away.. I wish I'd know her a little earlier so I could get that guitar...
Good deal though... Always nice to have a "creepy" uncle to give you shit.

Just amazing. And I haven't even plugged it in yet. Hell, acoustic it has better sustain then my main electric! It's truly insane.
