Anyone had any experience with these? Any good, any bad? Is there anything better for $350-450?
My uses for this: generally noisy rocking out, very light gigging, jamming with friends, messing about with in my free time and occasional creation. Thoughts?

I'll throw in my 2 cents. Look like good choices, judging by the links you provided.

Yeah, this one has nothing to do with their older stuff though, because it's essentially brand new. I know they had some mediocre quality stuff in recent years, but this is a rebirth of the company's design.

My first guitar was actually that same model, or one just like it, but silver instead of purple. I can tell you it's a really cool looking guitar, but pretty inefficient. It has a lot of the same problems that the models from the 50's have (because it's a retro model obviously), like a very fat body right around where your hand goes when trying to play the 12 frets and above. That in itself annoys the hell out of me. But, if this isnt your first guitar I would strongly suggest it for it's fun value. Its great to jam out to especially. So far it seems to be lasting fine, but the pickups on it have started to come loose. Oh yeah I should also mention a very annoying problem with the truss rod. Assuming they havent fixed this, the only way tog et to the truss rod is to actually take the strings off and take the neck off. This doesnt become a big deal until you start to have warping problems and try to fix them, because you have to restring and destring it every time you want to adjust it.

First, it's definitely not purple.
Second, and much more substantially: what year did you get yours? The reason why I ask is because they don't make one in silver currently, and apparently the current model is entirely different from the last batch of remakes. From the sound of it, you must not have the most recent 56 Pro.
Third, what did you specifically use yours for primarily?

holy shit, I just realized that the Jerry Jones Bari is identical in appearance to a 1956 Danelectro U3 Baritone. Mine is a redesign of a 56 U2 (2 pickup). Getting it this week. :D

Im not sure of the exact year of mine, but it's definitely still an older model. I was under the impression that they didn't update the guitar to retain that vintage look, I had no idea they had fixed those earlier problems. If this is true then I have no quipes at all with the guitar. I used it mostly as a learner/beginner guitar. It was the first I had ever gotten, and for awhile I was just trying to apply everything I knew about the violin to the guitar to figure it out. Then I started taking lessons and started sounding better. Today I mostly use my Ibanez acoustic electric to play on, but this past few weeks Ive brought back out the Danelectro just to get back in the groove of playing an electric. Its a fun little guitar.

I'll answer you here as well: it's a great guitar, but it definitely does not have a Dave Matthews sound at all. Keep the guitar when you get it though, I'm sure it'll allow you to branch out to different sounds. On the bridge pickup it sounds just like the electric rhythm in "Getting Better" by the Beatles, if you want a reference tone. Both pickups together sound really warm but forceful. The neck pickup has a more subdued tone. I love this guitar.
