Big Blue is back for sure. 36-zip beat down on anybody is fantastic. The Skins stood no chance today with all the emotion running through the team. I'd like to believe the Giants will be on a mission for Mr. Mara. Either way, we got SF and an implosion of a Vikings team coming up....7-2 before a showdown with Philly? I'd take that.
Good work on the thread btw, I was thinking earlier that there should be a thread for the Gmen. :thumbsup

Giants were going nowhere with Warner. At the time I thought they should've kept with Warner, but looking at where Eli is now, I wouldn't have changed a thing.

If i'm not mistaken the Giants beat the Broncos who beat down the Eagles 49-21 today. The Broncos are 6-2. Is 6-2 not real enough for you?

You're team got thrashed 36-0, deal with it. This is not college, this is the NFL where any team stands a chance at anytime. Shit the Bucs who were 5-1 just lost to a lowly 49ers team. Ws are Ws no matter how you get them. However, the Giants didn't just beat Washington, they bent them over.

The Redskins...no offense.
They were ranked 4th coming into today. The Giants defense was ranked 31st.
So, how much more real would you like?

although i'll take the two pancakes over the next couple weeks. The Giants offense should be more than enough for that porous 9er D, how ever will the Giants D play tight next week - not expecting less than 10 - but they can't go back to letting up 24+. Then home v. the soon to be Culpepper-less Vikes. 7-2 going into a game v. Philly? Yea i'll take that. :hump

the redskins are a shit team (and this is my team, i love the skins) and the giants more than bent us over, it was total domination, im just saying dont judge the giants over a win agaisnt the redskins

Trippin4136
10-31-2005, 04:39 PM
no shit, they don't even seem to care about the fact that their #2 offense just got shut out and their supposed blitzkreig like D just got f'in torched.
let's not forget that the Giants avg. starting yardline was the 44 and missed many TD opportunites when they settled for FGs....could have easily been 45 or 48-0.

Offense didn't really turn on until the 4th quarter, but hey a win is a win!

they can easily take care of the eagles this week (hopefully) Yeah I think we have to just pressure Mcmahon and put a linebacker spy so he cant scramble to the right. Im not too worried about the passing game of the Eagles now, but we cant lose to a backup QB scrub. Remember Kurt Kitner when the Falcons beat us at home a year or 2 ago?

I thought it was a nice win. A few key things coming from that game though...Aikman was quick to throw Eli under the truck for having a bad game but its not like Bledsoe did much better. Quarterbacks are allowed to have a bad game once in a while, he is still having a good season and doing a lot better than people thought he would be doing in his second year. Aikman didnt exactly put up probowl numbers in his second year. 8-4 for Eli is an accomplishment.
The big deal out of this game though was Feely missing that 33 yarder. I am worried for the Giants now. A kicker can have a bad game like Feely did in Seattle and then brush their shoulders off and come back out there, or they can meltdown. It is starting to look as though Feely lost his mojo forever. You cannot miss a 33 yard field goal at home, period end of story. This could be a major problem for the Giants down the line.

i was at the game
holy shit.
i have absolutely no voice, the stadium was goign nuts. and when feely fucked up that field goal, the stadium went nuts as far as cursing goes. The defense really stepped it up, but we need to get our offense working better. Tiki ran 30 times for 112, i think, he needs to step up, and eli needs to look at all his options instead of throwing to the first guy. but the defense, WHOA! G MEN!

A thread revived.
Just wanted to see what other fellow Giants fans were expecting out of this season.
Me personally, I love that all these "experts" aren't considering the Giants as a favorite to win the East. The division is a Beast. But, if they take a few of those games that everyone is expecting them to lose, they can easily be 10-6. The schedule is insane, but we have weapons on offense and defense.
Only thing I am worried about is the secondary. The D-Line and Linebacking core is fine. Strahan, Osi, and Lavar all in on the rush. WATCH OUT. The best is that arrington will be coming in on Strahans side. LOL.

My hopes for the season? Lavar Arrington returns to form and drops the attitude, Pierce returns from injury, Shockey and Burress coexist as wideout options, Umenyiora and Strahan remain beasts, the revamped secondary (notably, Madison) progresses and meshes with growing talent (Allen and Webster), Eli continues to mature, and Tiki gives us just one more MVP-caliber season. That's alot of if's and hopes, but I think a wild card spot and a 10-6 record is not too unreasonable.

I don't think there is a favorite in the NFC East. It's a toss up between the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins. Any one of those teams could easily win it.

It's all on Eli this year. If he comes up big in year 3 the Giants can be a very lethal team. If he plays like he did last or regress, the offense is gonna suffer.
Of course it doesn't help that Plaxico is being a selfish prick and taking off with Shockey during the offseason forfeiting all time that could be used to get timing down with Eli.

GIANTS ANNOUNCE 53-MAN ROSTER
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. The Giants today reached the NFLs 53-man roster limit by waiving 21 players and placing another on injured reserve.
Among those released were wide receiver Willie Ponder, one of four players in franchise history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns; cornerback Curtis Deloatch, who started 13 games last season; and defensive tackle Damane Duckett, who played in 14 games the previous two seasons, including eight last year. Another veteran let go was safety Quentin Harris, a fifth-year pro who was signed as a free agent in March.
Also waived were a pair of 2006 draft choices, safety Charlie Peprah, a fifth-round selection, and cornerback Gerrick McPhearson, who was chosen in the seventh round.
Defensive ends Eric Moore, the Giants sixth-round selection in 2005, and Adrian Awasom were also waived. Moore played in eight games last season, while Awasom appeared in five.
The other players waived were all rookies and first-year players: tight ends Wade Fletcher and Darcy Johnson, wide receiver Anthony Mix, fullback Tony Jackson, running backs James Sims and Mike Jemison, offensive linemen Kevin McAlmont, Troy Reddick and Todd Londot, defensive linemen Willie Evans and Marcus Green, and linebackers Tyson Smith and Nick McNeil.
Rookie offensive lineman Matt Lentz was placed on injured reserve with an elbow injury.
Those who earned a spot on the 53-man squad include wide receiver/punt returner Michael Jennings, a practice squad player the previous two seasons; five draft choices (Mathias Kiwanuka, Sinorice Moss, Gerris Wilkinson, Barry Cofield and Guy Whimper); two rookie free agents (cornerback Kevin Dockery and offensive lineman NaShan Goddard); and first-year free agent Jonas Seawright, who spent the entire 2005 season on the teams practice squad.
I'm ready for Monday. :bounce

health is huge for the giants. if tiki or eli go down, they are in trouble. it doesnt help that they are in one of the hardest hitting divisions and have to play those guys twice!!

Same could be said about every team, if Peyton goes down are the colts really that good? Mcnabb? bye bye philly. Many more too.
I don't care what anyone says the offense is stacked with skilled players.
Shockey, Burress, Tiki, Sinorice, Toomer. If Eli matures and plays the way we expect. They will be awesome.
On the D side, our ends are Pro-Bowlers. The DT's are weak. Pierce, Emmons (if healthy), and Arrington is a damn good LB core. Secondary will be much more improved overall then last year.
I think all the experts are hyping the NFC east way too much. I say the Eagles and Giants battle it out for the division. Eagles had a rough year last year, but Mcnabb is back, and that D is pretty good. Last year should have no reflection of what the eagles will do this year.
I honestly don't see the Skins and the Cowboys being that good. Is the dallas offense really good? TO, will be more of a distraction then an addition.
Skins? What's up with all the skins hype? They are gonna suck this year. Mark my words.

The Colts are definitely the better team overall but you have to imagine the Giants are going to be running on pure adrenaline. I just hope Eli doesn't buckle. I agree 100 percent. Worst part of the team is the secondary. I dont know who is worse at this point, Will Allen or Sam Madison. They need to pick the play up a lot.
As for Pass rush, I like Tim Lewis but I feel he could come up with some better schemes to pass rush..We have too much talent on the ends and Lb's to not be getting to the qb a lil more.
Was Shockey even in the game yesterday?:lol
Overall it was a hell of win, and much better being 1-1 than 0-2. Toomer had a great game...

Corey Webster is the other DB, but he is also in his second year. Where Madison is making good money as a FA signing...

Toomer has always been consistently a good WR, never great but good.
I thought about picking him up too, but this past week is not what he will do consistently, Shockey will get more involved, and so will Sinorice Moss so that will take some touches away from him..

So I broke his balls Saturday, he said I better enjoy it cause its the only win I will be getting from a football team this weekend. Fast Fwd to Sunday, I call him at the half Eagles are up huge, He is talking trash, how Eli is overated, the secondary sucks, the Giants suck..etc..now fast fwd to to end of game, I call he picks up and hangs up, then wont pick the phone up the rest of the night..:lol :lol :lol :lol

Coughlin doesn't use Shockey like Fassel used shockey..Fassel used to spread him out to the point where he was a wide reciever. If they used Shockey more the offense could be potent...

Yup. Guys like Tiki, and the well dressed Amani Toomer, Strahan, these guys are, like you said what it means to a New York Giant. As Coughlin said after the Eagles game, he saw a bit of that New York Giants pride, and hopefully that was the start of it and we'll continue to see it this season.

dmb8021
10-20-2006, 05:35 PM
some of the things I would like to see the rest of the season (and also things I think they need to do to make the playoffs and more):
1) First thing, Eli needs to be more accurate with his passes. Burress is tall and has a great vertical leap, and yet, he continues to throw it over his head, even when he is wide open.
2) The secondary needs to do a much better job. They didn't really get tested last week in Atlanta, because the Falcons are more of a rushing team. But they will get tested this week, having to defend T.O. and Glenn. They can't be leaving receivers wide open like they have been. They did a better job against the Redskins in not letting Moss do too much, and this needs to continue.
3) Feely can't missing field goals like he has been. So far, it hasn't mattered that he has missed some, but if it keeps up, it will come back and hurt us.

the big key for Monday night is to pressure Bledsoe and contain T.O and Glenn. We did a good job of pressuring Vick last week, so hopefully that will carry over. If we can do what we did against the Redskins in not letting Brunell do much and containing Moss, we should be in good shape. Hopefully.

Great game. It's about time the Giants stomped the Cowboys on MNF after all the years the Cowboys did it to them in the 90s. The defense was hungry and the offense made spectacular plays all night.
The only downside is the Giants took a lot of punishment in this game. They lose LaVar for the season, Osi leaves with a hip injury (hopefully nothing to serious) and Tiki gets a pretty bad stinger. They got roughed up pretty good.
What pisses me off on Dallas' side is...how many times does Roy Williams get to get away with that f'in horsecollar tackle?!? He brought Tiki down that way , I counted, 3 different times, BLATANTLY. That tackle became illegal b/c of Williams and the 3 legs he broke with that move and when he does it all over the field and it doesn't get called it pisses me off.
And lastly, ESPN's coverage is fucking pathetic. What was the spread of the coverage after the game? 80/20 Cowboys/Giants respectively. They seemingly could only talk about the Cowboys implosion and this QB controversy instead of the Giants dominated a HUGE division win and all the things they did right. Do I give a shit to hear Parcells bitch and moan about his sorry Cowgirls and his awful QB duo all night? No.

Agreed. It's exactly what happened. They spent so much time slurping an average team they think is good, they don't realize the team that stomped them is actually the real story.

Speaking of espn's coverage, when are they going to realize that Joe Theismann sucks? It seems like all he wants to do is correct Kornheiser. Their defense definitly crumbled there towards the end of the game and it was killing me. I think that was the first time I've ever rooted for the bucs. Matt Bryant definitly helped the G-Men's cause, which would be the first time that he did anything beneficial for the Giants.

although, if that game was in Philthy, that ball doesn't have a prayer. The hot Florida air definitely helped. But it was a great kick nonetheless. Usually on such a long kick, the kicker will overcompensate and the ball won't even be close.

The Giants looked pretty good this week. IMO winning the division is out of your hands though (and yes I know TECHNICALLY you are a half game up on Philly). Obviously you are going to have a lot more wins this year and you'll have a few more losses (you aren't gonna go 14-2). But the Eagles are the best team in that division the problem is they haven't played a complete game yet this year. EVERY game this year the Eagles have played amazing one half and totally sucked the other half. Sometimes they look amazing at the beginning (vs Giants, vs 49ers) sometimes we look amazing at the end (vs Texans, vs GB, vs NO, vs Tampa). If the Eagles win this week against a struggling Jacksonville team and get their shit together during the bye week and play a great second half the Giants will have to settle for a wild card spot. I'm not saying the Eagles will get their shit together and start playing complete games, but I am saying that the only team that can stop the Eagles from winning the division is the Eagles. I guess we'll see how things shake out in a few weeks. The Eagles/Giants game at Giants Stadium should be a good one and will definitely have some major playoff implications.
Either way in the NFC the best teams right now are probably:
Bears - Arizona showed they aren't invincible
Seahawks - Losing their QB for a few weeks plus having Alexander out is gonna make this team fall off. I think the Rams might even win the division.
Rams - Might take division if Seahawks fall off
Saints - I don't think they are for real but they might get a wild card especially if Seahawks and Falcons fall off
Panthers - They are too hot and cold. If they get hot and stay hot they will win their division.
Falcons - I don't think they're gonna make the playoffs. I just don't think they are that good.
Eagles - I think they can win the division if they just start playing complete games and can have a strong finish to the season.
Giants - They can win the division if they keep playing good football and the Eagles don't get it together.
My guess for the playoffs
Bears
Panthers
Eagles
Rams
Giants (Wild card)
Saints (Wild card)

Right now, the Giants are 4-2, the Eagles are 4-3 v. some very vanilla competition and got humiliated by the Giants comeback at home. The Giants are 3-0 in the division and the Eagles are 1-1. You can slurp your team all you want, but right now, the Giants look like the better team and have played much tougher competition to this point.
Well I guess we'll see where they are both at by Week 15 when they play at Giants Stadium. IMO the Eagles are the more talented team and I think they showed it when they dominated the Giants for 3 quarters. Unfortunately they got overconfident and shut it down too early then had a bonehead play by their 2nd year DE that got the Giants into FG range to send it into OT.
Trippin4136

they may have dominated the first 3 quarters but a W is a W and when you're up that much, a talented team doesn't let another come back like that.

You don't have the Vikings in there? Weak. Go look at their remaining schedule and tell me they won't be in the playoffs.

Sounds like a typical Philly span response to me, "Well we would've won if....." My only response to that is: if your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle. Yes they "dominated" the G-Men but they had an all time choke job, get over it.

I never said we would've won IF anything. I said we dominated the Giants for 3 quarters and then we screwed up. Sometimes teams win games that they should lose and sometimes they lose games that they should win. The Eagles have just had 3 games against less talented teams break the wrong way for them this year. In my original post I was saying if we get our shit together I think we have the most talented team and therefore we'll win the division. If we don't then we'll be lucky to get a wild card spot.

I think Andy Reid needs to read some books on clock management.
I think he gets too indecisive at times and takes to long to call the play. He also doesnt run enough when they are winning to run down the clock.
Against Tampa he did a great job though. The only timeout we burned was when McNabb got sick. The only clock management screw up was at the end of the half when McNabb threw a pass to LJ Smith on the 2 yd line with 9 seconds left, but that wasn't Reid's fault. LJ is a diversion on that play unless there is no one between him and the end zone. McNabb has to either throw that ball away or throw it to a receiver IN the endzone.

excuse me...their losses were not "bad breaks".
I agree that a 62 yd GW FG is a bad break, who would have thought he would make that...but if they are so talented they shouldn't have put themselves in that position. McNabb throwing 3 INT (including 2 pick 6s) isn't a bad break, that's shitty play.
Having 12 men on the field subsequently negating your team's HUGE sack on 3rd and 10 allowing the drive to continue and kick the GW FG is something talent teams don't do
Allowing a team to come from behind from 17 down in the 4th Quarter and torch you in OT is something talented team's DON'T DO.
You can preach all you want about how the Eagles "should" and "could" be 7-0. Bottom line, they've fucked themselves in every game they lost.

You honestly think they'll only win four more games when their schedule includes San Fran, Green Bay (twice), Miami, Arizona, Detroit, NYJ and St. Louis? The only two top tier teams they play the rest of the year are New England and Chicago.
Trippin4136
10-24-2006, 02:25 PM
I didn't know the rest of their schedule off hand but looking at those teams I would have to assume they'll win at least 4 of them but the Vikings have had some pretty miserable finishes to their season in recent memory so who knows.

Giants need to be 6-2 in three weeks when they play the Bears (like I said on page 5). If they come in with a 5 game win streak, they may be able to challenge the Bears' amazing D with 40 rush attempts by Tiki and then the big play to Burress.

I hope the Bears come in to NY undefeated. When you have a streak going, that's all the teams thinks about. But when you get that loss off your back, you play alot more relaxed. I think the Giants have a great shot at beating the Bears. If Arizona can shut them down like that, the Giants can do it as well with a MUCH better defense than Arizona. Plus the the Giants have spoiled a few undefeated teams in their day.

I agree. I've been waiting for him all season as their home run threat. And now with Amani finished, he's GOT to make an impact this half of the season. The offense really really needs it.
What hurts about Amani going down is he was their possession receiver. The go to guy on 3rd and 5 or 3rd and 7. That stings. What it means is that Shockey HAS to be more incorporated into the offense.

Exactly, they MUST get Shockey involved more, period. When he catches a few balls he gets the entire team fired up with his enthusiasm.
I also wish they'd use Brandon Jacobs more. He should be getting 10-15 touches a game, not just a few here and there when Tiki needs a break or when the ball is on the 5. The guy is an absolute animal!

It may actually help us to tell you the truth. The elimination of the big play WR, may force Eli to throw to the sidelines and middle more, instead of lofting up the floating duck that makes all Giants fan gasp for air everytime he throws it. (Giants fans... you gotta know what I'm talking about. The wobbling floater 30 yards downfield that should be picked off everytime but Burress pulls it out of nowhere)
It will get Shockey more involved in the offense and Tiki will get 50 rushes every game.
EDIT: Obviously, losing Toomer and Burress will hurt the Offense, but it forces Eli to make better throws and the O-Line to block for Tiki more. Thats what I am saying. Eagles will finish 2nd, and battle Min. and St. Louis for the 5th and 6th spots.
