how does one hijack their own thread? if you join me in hijacking, aren't you really just taking back what's yours? anyhow, i don't fall on either side of the Michigan/Ohio St. rivalry, just taking some friendly exception to that being called the "biggest rivalry in college". that would probably make for some heated debate..

Noooo....can someone from the OSU thread back me up. If PSU and osu win we split the big 10 title, but PSU will get the BCS bowl. The same goes for Michigan and PSU. That is if PSU looses and Michigan wins...Really...that is how it is...We beat OSU but yet we would still split...but we would get the bcs bowl...

Nope, if M*ch*gan beats us and PSU loses, M*ch*gan would the tie break over both OSU and Penn State (due to beating them) so they would get the BCS berth. Not like that will happen though. First off they can't beat the Bucks, second I don't see PSU losing. They can humor themselves though.

If your record is the same as a team, you don't win the title outright, no matter who beat who. Tiebreakers don't mean outright. Fucking stupid Michigan fans.

He's actually a PSU fan and while titles are split, the automatic BCS bowl has to go to someone so the tie breakers matter for the BCS bid which really means more than being able to say you won an outright title. I don't think Michigan cares if they won it outright or not, as long as they get the bid. Same for OSU if they tie PSU and lose the automatic bid. Sure they won a share of the title, but they didn't get the bid.

Wow, I can't believe I just stood up for a PSU fan. :)

Yeah I'm a psu fan. I know how the Big 10 title will be decided and the BCS bowl tie breaker. I posted it in both OSU and PSU threads...Michigan fans are just happy they have a chance at a big 10 championship after being ranked 4th at the begining of the year and blowing it like a prostitute on the vegas strip...I know you beat us with one second to go. We would be big 10 champs right now and I'd be thinking about a possible trip to sunny california in January. Thank the refs...really...and your scoreboard guy...I hope OSU blows you out of the water now. Even though it would be sweet to win the big 10 outright. Id rather split it with a real football team...Than a team that the college football nation loves to blow up every season...

Obviously, you aren't very schooled in world of college football. Just because a game doesn't air during rivalry week, doesn't mean it isn't a huge rivalry. According to your logic: Florida St. - Miami isn't a big rivalry, Georgia - Florida isn't a big one, Miami - Virginia Tech isn't very big, OU - Nebraska must not be a very good rivalry, Tennessee - Florida isn't big, Wisconsin - Minnesota isn't big and the list goes on.

Michigan folk I have a question for you. When SI did it's state by state thing a few years ago, didn't MSU vs UofM recieve the most votes as the biggest rivalry?

Rivalries are hard to judge because they are specific to regions. I think USC - ND and Army - Navy are the 2 biggest, with every other one we can mention thrown together under them.

though the Bucks have 7 national championships, Michigan has won the most games of any division 1A football program (only 2 national titles though). Don't say it's mismatched because Michigan has a big overall lead in the series. The gap between wins came mostly before 1950. Since 1950, however, Michigan has only a one game advantage. speaking as a michigan fan and a fan of football, i think this should be one of the best games of the 2005 season. best of luck to both teams.

To answer this question, it is the same reason that OU - OK St. recieved over 70% of the best rivalry vote here.

Some OU fans voted for OU - OSU, a lot voted for OU - Texas. ALL OSU fans voted OU - OSU.

Some UM voted for MSU, most voted for Ohio St. ALL MSU fans voted for UM.

:lolthe games that you metion are big rivalrys. But they don't compare to the MU OSU game. those are on the same scale as say Michigan, Michigan state. Big game? yes. on the same level? no. The Michigan Ohio State game is so big because of the fact that it is the last game of the year every year, and there are always championship implications. If the red river shootout was the last game of the year than it would be closer to this game but I still think that MU OSU is the bigest rivalry in all of sports. (I understand that Duke UNC is huge, but in basketball the only thing that matters is the tournament)

All im saying is that you guys are in trouble saturday. OSU is a high quality football team who will not have a let down. the games that you metion are big rivalrys.

Ok ok ok. Let me get this straight. Your reasons for OU - Texas not being as big as UM - OSU:

1. Not the last game of the season
2. Doesn't have championship implications
3. Not nationally televised
4. My favorite: not played during what ESPN calls "rivalry week"

If you review your reasons that I just listed, you should be able to come to the conclusion that you are very wrong.

1. A game doesn't have to be the last game to be a rivalry game. OU - Texas used to be a NON - CONFERENCE game (making it a bigger, more hated rivalry) and was played in October, before the conference schedule started. Now that we are in the same conf. it made sense to just leave the game in its place. As it has always been for 100 years, played during the Texas State Fair.

2. You don't think OU - Texas has championship implications? Please. I don't even need to argue this point.

3. It may have not been nationally televised this year, but the game is consistently on national tv. UM - OSU is not a nationally televised game every year, and what kind of criteria for a rivalry game is that?

4. The last one is so stupid, I don't need to touch on it.

1. Being the last game of the year makes this game have so much more meaning for the conference championship. The red river shootout is played so early in the season that the team that loses can make up ground in the later games. UM-OSU is the last game, if you lose thats it no chance to make up anything.

2.this year Texas, OU had no champinship implications because OU sucked.

3.UM-OSU is nationaly televised every year. the NCAA sceduals around this game to make sure it is.

The 'Big Game' has decided the Big Ten championship 32 times since the contest was moved to the last Saturday in the season in 1935; on 18 of those occasions, Michigan and Ohio State settled the title between themselves. The throne atop the Big Ten, as well as a trip to the Rose Bowl, is usually the reward for a victory in this contest.

I FOund that at a Ohio State hates michigan website. BUt seriously, 102 meetings between the two teams? that is crazy. I mean i worked down at the football complex last year and i heard stories how back in the day, the Ohio State Athletic department rented out a house next to the practice field of UofM and used it to video tape B's plays. Now days, the resedents have to sign, as part of hte lease, that they will not video tape the practice field.

I am pretty sure there is not a tenasity like that down on the red river. thats all i gotta say, hope it made sense.

The hostility came from this guy...He made pretty dumb comments and I felt like I needed to address them.

And here are some more that I gotta talk about:

1. Obviously, you don't follow college football other than UM - OSU. The winner of the OU - Texas game has played for the conference title every year since the Big XII began. The point you made can be looked at reversely. Michigan isn't in the Big 10 title hunt because they lost early, and neither is Ohio St right now. So why is this such a big game right now?

2. OU did not suck buster. OU is 6-3, and 5-1 in the Big XII. The teams OU lost to are a combined 29-2. Hmm....

3. For you info. UM - OSU is REGIONAL coverage this weekend. Point proven.

4. OU - Texas may not bigger, but is at least equal to UM - OSU. There is no better atmosphere than in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl for the Shootout.

EDIT: by the way, in response to the post above me, OU and Texas celebrated their 100 meeting this year. Again what made OU - UT so crazy is that the two became insane rivals and they weren't even in the same conference until 10 years ago.

There is just as much hatred for each other between OU and Texas. OU unofficial emblem is the upside down hook 'em horns.

Nope they are looking for the upset...My bet is Lee and Kirk will pick MSU...ESPN has no love for PSU...MSU is also playing for a bowl bid. They are dumb for not going to OSU and Michigan. I was screwing around about the motor city bowl. On the prediction though, OSU is a solid football team and would be #2 in the nation if they didnt loose that texas game. They would still be ranked higher than PSU with the loss to PSU...No offense to you guys, but OSU should be at the top of the big 10 and I think they will get the job done. oh i would seriously have to disagree with that. Go back to 2002 to see the ultimate insult...OSU got ZERO respect in 2002. Everyone was bashing us saying offense would break and we'd lose, but the D was the best in the country. Every week leading up to Michigan and then into The Game we were getting dissed, then NO ONE gave us a chance v. Miami and we won that too to go 14-0. We got NO LOVE from anyone and still don't do this day. People try to belittle OSU's title when every Buckeye fan knows that title was won in the trenches by the nastiest defense in a decade.

No to mention....all the Clarett shit and the absolute PR attack ESPN was knowingly or not putting against OSU. Don't think that Clarett incident is pure tongue and cheek insulting. Granted boosters were out of line and players are responsible for themselves well but that was a PR nightmare for OSU and ESPN did nothing to help relieve it, and in fact probably made it worse. Even going as far to attack our school's President, Andy Geiger (ex-AD), Tressel on down. ESPN got personal with the university.

I was shocked too...I guess a PSU loss would be bigger than the your game. Becasue it will effect both teams in that game. And PSU going for a Big 10 championship after being the whipping boys of the conference for a few years is great too. Not to mention that we were even supposed to be competitive this year. Someone from ESPN had a quote in out paper today. It was something like, "We go where there will be the best story line". I guess PSU winning a big 10 title after a 4-7 season, not to mention the other seasons, is a good story line.

my family is from Kansas. my dad was in the military, so i moved around all the time growing up. i've been a Jayhawks, Chiefs, and Royals fan as long as i can remember. i first moved to NC in the early 90's, around the time that it started becoming trendy to be a Duke fan, and the Tar Heels were as good as ever. in the 1991 Final Four, Kansas beat UNC in the semi-finals before losing to Duke in the National Championship game. if you're not a fan of one of those teams and you live in this area, their fans have a way of making you hate them very fast.

that being said, nothing can touch the Duke vs. UNC rivalry in college sports.

My boyfriend is the other way around. He's a Michigan fan and I'm an Ohio State fan. If OSU wins, he wants it to be a blow out rather than something that comes down to the final minutes of the game, or else he dwells on the game and those final minutes for the rest of the weekend. I swear..... guys and football.:eek

Anyways, about OSU's offense... We've been doing really well the past few weeks, but I'm interested in how well the offense will do being up at Ann Arbor. I think that might make for a different story. (Hopefully not.)

Ah...I didnt mind loosing by one point...it was at the last second so that killed me. But loosing or winning by 7pts against OSU would have been amazing either way. Espically in that game...Both teams really played outstanding.

If OSU's offense shows up like the Iowa or N'western games, we should win by two TD's. Never count on our offense though. It will most likely be close and the defense/special teams will be required to win it. I hope Tressel opens up the offense and isnt conservative. Ginn, Holmes, and Gonzalez need the the ball.

You really don't think so? After losing next year, he will be 1 - 5 against your biggest rival. Not to mention Michigan was ranked in the top five at the beginning of the saesaon and will be lucky to end up in the top 25 after the bowls. I don't know if I agree with beating teams like Northern Illinois early and then losing 3 times in the Big Ten and still looking at winning percentage. Whatever though. I think he is the reason Michigan wasnt up to their potential this year...They have the talent, but not the coach to use it to the fullest ability. #4 in out of the gate, now barley even ranked. If that is not coaching I dont know what is.. Obviously someone saw something in that team.

i dont think it's Lloyd. honestly. its the off. coordinator calling the plays. on saturday, they were calling plays like the bears used to. it was third and nine and they throw a little screen for three yards.

i mean i understand we didnt have our big receiver this year (edwards) but we still had avant and a handful of others that are capable of catching a pass thrown more than 15 yards.

Lloyd has coached us to back-to-back big ten championships and rose bowl appearences.

get a new play caller.

Exactly. We had the talent going into the season, but something just never clicked.

Your RB is pretty damn good...I think you guys will get a new coach really soon...

Why were they passing on first down with under 7 mins to go?:ugh That is bad coaching right there...

True, but when we were up 7 against osu we didnt even think about passing. You cant take chances when up on a team like OSU

um. no you're not. The only reason scUM has even beaten OSU under Tressel is Braylon Edwards.

Get ready to be pounded again in C-Bus.
