NO NO NO,, let me go throught best starting line for the uk wildcats,,, 1st off we got a mother fuckin quick as shit dude named rajon rondo.... maybe the fastest player in ncaa today. Then at the 2 we got Pat Sparks #22 a gold ole kentucky boy, that can shoot most of the time... though it over now to ravi moss/joe crawford at the 3 if u dont know them,, soon enough u will. Rekalin Sims get the 4 a juco player that kicks fucking ass,, he is a great shooter for a PF, then we got 3 7-footers and maybe mister randolph morris as the big men,, maybe the 7 footers arent the toughest but they will come around tubby will make them.... so if you dont belive ky is the best,, then fuck you....

as a Duke fan I say, no we don't. I don't care. Except for 1998, you've been our bitch, if only for 1992 (I think Laettner's footprint is still on your chest). I guarantee jelly fans hate Duke a lot more than Duke fans care about jelly.

Exactly. That pretty much goes for any sport too. Granted having the all time highest winning percentage is commendable, but championships is generally considered the highest measure of greatness.

I mean how many people can list off which NBA or NFL team have had the highest all time winning percentages? Probably a lot fewer than those who know which teams hold the most championships. Typically those considered the greatest teams are those with the most rings.

Sure Kentucky has more wins than UCLA, but they have also been playing basketball for an extra 17 years.

Kentucky is a great program. One of the top 10 programs of all time. However, UCLA is still the greatest program in the history of basketball.

It seems like the folks who are arguing for KY being the best all-time college bball program as opposed to UCLA are all actually from KY itself, whereas the people for UCLA are from places other than Cali...I think that says something.

Also if you use that "winningest" team chart as proof that KY is the best ever, it would also seem to mean that UPenn, Temple, and St. John's are all "better" programs than UCLA...which I don't think you'll find many people to support.

I like KY. Ever since I watched Mashburn back in the day. I've been sour on Duke ever since that damn Laettner play. But best ever? Don't know that I'd go that far.

My team = georgetown. Big East!

I'm a UNC fan, and I think UCLA is the best program of all-time. One of the reasons Kentucky has been so great over the past decade is because the SEC is weak. Kentucky builds itself up by pounding on weak SEC schools, then gets exposed in the tournament. As far as UNC fans hating Kentucky, I guess I somehow missed out on that. Speaking from my own experience, we really don't care much about Kentucky unless we're playing them or Duke's playing them (in which case we love Kentucky). I'd like to add that I see Kentucky getting knocked out in the 2nd-3rd round this year, depending on how the seeding goes.

I'm an OU alumn (December 2001). It's all about championships people. Wins don't mean anything if they don't lead to championships. UCLA in basketball, Notre Dame in football. I'll argue all day for Oklahoma football, but the bottom line is Notre Dame is the top dog. Same is true for UCLA.

I'm searching for words to describe how pathetic they are.....and the words just aren't there. It's horrible watching that team play. Complete polar opposites from the women, who dominate every time they touch the ball.

Them have somehow they built a 3 game winning streak, but lost last night to fall to 4-2.

Alright.... I've been looking at it, and I don't see any way that you can say Kentucky is the best program when it comes to championships. If you look at it historically, UCLA has more championships. If you want to take UCLA out of the picture and look at only the past twenty years (as some of you Kentucky fans have suggested), Kentucky STILL isn't the best program of the past twenty years. Since 1985, Kentucky has two National Championships... Duke has three, and UNC and UConn also have two. In the past 20 years, Kentucky has been to FOUR final fours... that's it. Duke has been to TEN, and UNC has been to SEVEN. No matter how you look at, historically or in the recent past, Kentucky is not the best program of all-time.

SteelerMan
12-01-2005, 05:22 PM
And just to compare the quality of the conference Kentucky plays in... over the past 20 years, the SEC has sent 9 teams to the Final Four. The ACC has sent 21. The SEC has had 3 National Champions... the ACC has had 6.

Any suggestions other than brokers on how to go about getting UK tickets?? I'm not a student, nor do I have any connections, but I'd really appreciate a pair for a game this year.....against anybody, I dont care. I need to witness a game at Rupp. Went to Big Blue Madness this year, but that was kind of a tease. Does anybody in here have any extras they could sell?? I'd certainly owe a big favor....hell, I'll trade WhiteSox tickets, dMb tickets.... Ive had no luck, any help is appreciated.

Edit: 4000 DAMN. Probably took 2 1/2 years to get from 3000 to 4000. Part of me wonders if I'll ever get to 5k. I will.

We are #1 in victories, #2 in championships. It's the history, the tradition, the consistency, the fans, it's the whole package. Just because UCLA went on a magnificent run 30+ years ago does not make them the best program. UNC is a better program, Kansas is a better program, Duke, even though i hate to say it, is a better program than UCLA.

Kentucky fans, go back and read that post (on page 4) and let me know what you come up with. having the most victories for UK is deceptive. honestly when youre in a conference where there are no other good basketball teams you win alot of games. when your division in said conference involves teams such as UT, vandy, south carolina, and uga you win even more games. yeah UK has alot of wins. but does that make them the best? look at teams in the ACC, they may have less wins, but look at their competition. duke and unc have had to play each other, and wake, state, gatech, and umd every year (until last year). they're gonna have less wins because they play better competition (except for duke's pre-conference schedule when they refuse to play at another teams site except for when they are forced to and consider greensboro and charlotte to be a "neutral site")

How so? UK, UNC, Kansas, Duke all have better "PROGRAMS" than UCLA. I have said this before, and anyone with any knowledge of basketball would agree.

:lol :lol :lol

I love it when people add this at the end of their arguments. It's the adult equivalent of a five year old saying "Oh yeah, well you're stupid!".

no, just using the people that have posted in this thread. fans of each of those teams i listed have said UCLA.

i don't mean this to bash on Kentucky fans, but as with any other team the loud, obnoxious, ignorant fans give the rest a bad rap. i've got friends that are Kentucky fans, but they live in the real world, not Lexington, KY.

You want it, ok here it is.
I'm not a UK fan, I cheer for U of L.

UK is the #1 college program of all time.
Street and Smith came out with a publication in 2005 listing the Top 100 college basketball programs.
UK was #1
UCLA was #2

Most coaches will say that UCLA is the number 1 program of all time out of respect for Coach Wooden.
He built a dynasty and did something that no other University has ever done.
Over the years UK has been more dominant than any other program.

Speaking of cheerleading U of L and UK has the top programs for cheerleaders.

I never denied that they had the most wins... I said you can't measure success by regular season victories, you measure it by championships. If I followed your logic, over the past 10 years, the Steelers and Packers are more successful than the Patriots and the Braves are more successful than the Yankees. And like I mentioned earlier, a lot of their victories are due to the fact that they play in the SEC, which has never been a very strong conference.

Keith
12-02-2005, 05:36 PM
the most wins is not what has UK placed at the top of all time programs list.

Street & Smith's magazine used 15 categories to determine the top 100, including NCAA and NIT appearances and wins, conference championships and tournament championships, graduation rates, all-time winning percentages, and NBA first-round draft picks.

Again, check out the link
http://athensohio.net/sports/basketball/100-greatest/

when has the SEC been a weak conference? It has some of the most dominating teams out of any conference. True it isn't as good as the ACC or better than the new Big East, but it would be ranked in the top 3

Keith
12-02-2005, 05:46 PM
UK has the 9th hardest schedule this season, it's not like UK plays only cupcake teams.
Check their RPI
http://rpiratings.com/mensrpi.html

If you want to measure on just championships then UCLA is the top program, but when was the last time UCLA won a national title? I'm not a UK fan, but I can admit that UK has the top Basketball program

When Duke and UNC has the stats to compete with UK and can surpass them, then maybe. As of right now if UK keeps up winning and throws a few more national titles on, then they will be hard to surpass.
Who know in twenty years gonzaga could be the top program.

You said if Jelly beats UNC tomorrow it will show why they are the best program ever. I asked what beating an unranked team will do to prove that. You didn't respond, but instead took a shot at Carolina.

Also, if I was a bandwagon fan doesn't that mean I'd be going for Duke, UConn or Texas this year?
