i do all the time......for instance, i always make my own two step intro....and i recorded myself once when playin for like three friends, here ya go:

hey y'all, i hope this nite finds u pleased
playin for u is naturally a high for yours truly
and now i begin
im not dave but i think youll see,
tonite i try damn hard

i also recorded my own raven lyrics when i played for them, please dont knock me, im terrible @ improv
this is my raven lyrics, all improvized so please judge, but not too harshly
*********************
;)
Verse 1:
once a man, never a boy
grows up to go down, spiral down in life
chases love, and blows kisses
jus watches others, hits n misses
assuming yous him, playing like he plays

Pre Chorus:
Watch. love. play. its role.
Watch. love. watch. it close.

Chorus:
But once a wrong and right meet
the problems become light
up and down, center off
neither puts up a fight

Verse 2:
ohh right n down, their simply jus the same
she aint enjoyed, behind her back,
given a bad name
"shes a bitch" yea, "not a human being"
but now same on the inside...
given her chance to shine
she wouldnt run and hide

***Pre Chorus***
***Chorus***

Verse 3:
Any day, anything, can change
and jus like the sun goes down
somethings gotta change
walk, laugh, talk, pass...
kick this, love that
"jus like the old man said" he thought
opposites attract

***Pre Chorus***
***Chorus*** :raven
[then from there random mumbling and shit like that]

.......feel free to interpret-[and]-judge these and post ur own original dave song lyrics, id love to see them

I do it for Raven, Grey Street and 40. And Say Goodbye too mainly because I can't remember the words too well. Wishlist by Pearl Jam tends to be a seat of the pants thing too. The lyrics just don't stick.

As a sort of side note (I may have said this before) as an outro to 41, rather than doing everyday, Pay for What You Get lyrics can go pretty well. Start with "Everyone asks me how she's doing" and hit the "You turned to walk away, I watched you walk away, I let you get away" etc like in some of the D&T shows.

I used to back when I was a newbie, but that was mostly cause I didn't know the words yet. It was more like the correct words, just in the wrong spot.

I always throw in stuff that Dave does at random live shows... sometimes in similar but different places.
Last time I performed Crash Into Me I started singing "i watch ya there" a second time during the outro (something I've heard dave do at least once) and "pulled a dave" and led it into what I thought was a pretty sweet recovery/improv =)

at the gorge this guy I met {oz} was playing grave digger and I added my own lyrics on the spot - it came out pretty sweet and completely different in tone (as far as lyrics were concerned). It's fun to jam in that manner sometimes.

My friend plays Say Goodbye and #40 sometimes and whenever he does he just makes up his own lyrics. I think that's pretty sweet, 'cause he does change them up quite a bit.

Anyone ever heard #41 with everyday lyrics. It's freaky.
