I want to start playing songs from Hypnotize (SOAD)....majority of the tunes are in drop C. How do you tune to drop C? I hope it's as simple as drop D. I could do a search on google or something, but I'm about to fall asleep after bowling and drinking the past 3 or 4hrs.

I'm spent, goodnight everyone.

to get to Drop C, you need to bring all the strings down one step. Now you are in Drop C.

Incorrect.

You need to go to Drop-D (DADGBE) then drop everything 1 more step (CGCFAD)

A bit more complicated because you have to mess with all 6 strings, but the intervals are all the same as in Drop-D.

CGCFAD could be called drop C I suppose, but in my experience with drop C, it is just like drop D, but you take the low E down an extra step (CADGBE). There are a few Bob Dylan songs in this tuning with a Capo 4.

Any tips for actually tuning to drop C? I've got a KORG, your standard $20 tuner. It works perfectly fine, but it's not picking up the strings sometimes when I keep lowering the tone. :mad

Also, for example, on te 4th string which becomes --> C. It says on the tuner 7b I think it was. That's just one full note down so is that the same as C (7b)?

I was playing Holy Mountains a song that I know for sure that sounded right on.

i copy and pasted it from a website, and i guess they were saying where to go from drop d

I just got home from Sam Ash......bottom line is I need a chromatic tuner.

I just have a "guitar" tuner....so he showed me how to do it, but I pretty much need chromatic to do it 100% correct.

:shrug , I'll buy one with next weeks check.

yeah, 4th time around and just like a woman are in this tuning--drop C. i think CGCFAD is open C--but to get to drop C, just lower your low e until it sounds the same as the 3rd fret on your A string.

cheers.

First, drop 6th string (low E) until 6th string at 9th fret matches 5th string. (Open 6th string will also be one octave below 5th string at 3rd fret)

Then drop 5th string until it matches 6th string at 7th fret. (Open 5th string will be one octave below open 4th string)

Now drop 4th string until it matches 5th at 5th fret
Drop 3rd string until it matches 4th string at 5th fret
Drop 2nd string until it matches 3rd string at 4th fret
Drop 1st string until it matches 2nd string at 5th fret.

You'll see that last group of changes are all the same intervals as normal tuning, which is the case in Drop-C, but you have to get your 6th string down to a C, first, then know how to tune the 5th string to start in the right place, as I've described in the beginning.

That's cool, I wasn't too sure about this tuning myself either.
