yes it is. I think that DMB should play for 2 nights, rather than 1. Especially living in SoCal. All the "radio" listeners come and they ruin it for the "real" fans :rolleyes but really, they do...You mean the one's who think WAYG is the best DMB song ever?:rolleyes

I don't think anyone can get used to the 405...or the 101.....or the 10....or the every other damn freeway!!
Yeah, I think the 15 is the worst. It's definitely my least favorite (after the 405).

Another great thing about the Hollywood Bowl is thier BYOB policy:
You may bring food and drink to the Hollywood Bowl, but for the safety of all our patrons and to comply with fire regulations, the aisles and walkways of the Hollywood Bowl must be kept clear at all times. Therefore, large containers, picnic baskets, or coolers measuring more than 15" wide, 15" high, or 20" long will not be permitted past the ticket gate. Re-usable containers (such as Tupperware or sipper bottles), holding food or beverages are permitted in the theatre, as are wine bottles and wine glasses. Please note: kegs, pony kegs and party balls are not permitted. (For Lease Events, please see Special Policies for Lease Events.)
no watered down $7 beers here:)....And it just keep's getting better.:D :thumbsup

THIS IS NO LONGER TRUE. You can not bring outside alcohol into the bowl. I went to 5 shows there last summer and they trash everything you bring in. You used to be able to bring it, but now you can't. Sorry for the bad news! It just sounded too good to be true!:shrug

I'm glad you got a room at the Best Western. Maybe everyone who is coming from out of town should stay there. It's definitely the most walk-friendly. I would love to invite everyone to stay at my apartment but I can't fit that many people.
And I understand people's issues with LA. I personally think, without a wonderful group of friends in this city, people just can't deal.

Of course, and with me already staying there...
And totally agree about the LA thing. I find I meet so many newcomers who can't deal because they lack friends on arriving. Not to mention it can be hard to meet people is you're not super outgoing...

12/11/98. My first show was 11/30/98, became addicted, and joined once I saw that the fan club existed(which, luckily for me, was around when the fan club began).

Full amount for 2 lower bowl tickets would be about $148, right?
If so, that's what I've got too. I had a preauth for it, but now it's says "PURCHASE" in my future day transactions (I'm using a debit card, not a cc).

I never even got a preauth - is that a good sign or a bad one?
Isilinde
03-30-2006, 03:57 PM
Well, really, you never can tell for sure if you're getting tickets when you get a preauth... or even an actual charge. It's a good indicator that you got tickets, but you can't be sure until confirmations go up.
I'm sure we'll find out sooner than later.

But how does this work? I know the official line is that the charge does not officially mean you got tix, but I thought the story was that nobody has ever gotten a charge and then had it reversed. For example, when I tried to get D&T tix in Vegas I just never got a charge and never got tix. Meanwhile some people were posting they got charges and, sure enough, they all got tix.
My math says that $148 would sound right(mine is for $276 as I am also going to Chula Vista) but the difference between lower and upper bowl is $11 total, so who knows. How long have you been a WH member, isilinde?
EDIT: Oh, actually, what you should do is go to your WH ticket status page and find out if $148 is the maximum amount you could be charged. If it is, then you got lower bowl.
Isilinde
03-30-2006, 04:46 PM
hehe... I actually did go to my ticket status page shortly after I posted and, sure enough, $148 is the max I can be charged.
I'm a little out of it today because A) I'm sleepy and B) I'm cleaning my apartment (moving out) and the chemicals must be getting to me or something..... :evil ;) :lol
I have friends who used to be in the WH who said that they've been charged before, didn't get tix, and then the amount was credited back. I'm sure this is a rare occurance.... but I think it's within the realm of possibility.... for some reason.... :ugh
p.s. I'm only a 2nd year member, but I've had some amazing luck with the WH for some reason. Not that I'm complaining......... 4th row Gorge N3 last year... :D

I would be a bit skepticle that a wrist band would work. At HDC and Chula Vista i have never seen a wrist band system used for DMB shows, so they might not work.
If the price is right though, it might be worth the risk.
They only have wrist bands for the front row at Chula. It keeps people from climbing over the seats and coming into the front row.

I don't plan on going to this show, and I normally don't care what other venues look like, but, on a whim, I yahoo'd for some pictures of the Hollywood Bowl and it looks like a freaking SWEET venue!! I've always loved the "hatch shell" look, and it seems as if there are quite a few seats, even though it stretches pretty far back.
Anyway, to all of you that are going... have fun!
To those who have been there before, are the rear seats REALLY far from the stage? It's hard to tell from pictures.

My husband and I are doing the Hollywood Bowl show...we moved back East from L.A./San Diego two years ago, and this'll be our first trip back. We're seeing friends and family from Hell-Ay to Orange County to San Diego (and DMB!) in a short, five-day span. :bounce
The funny thing is, WH used the terms "Lower Bowl" "Upper Bowl" and "Rear Bowl" for the request period, but NO ONE in Hell-Ay or at the Bowl uses those terms. I used to work in the Box Office at the Geffen Theatre at UCLA, so when I saw the WH using these terms, I called a buddy at the Bowl and asked what these ticket terms meant, and he said, "I have no idea. The Dave Matthews Band's fan club made these terms up. You know we use the terms 'pool' 'terrace' and such."
The only sucky thing is that I'm a seven-year Warehouse member (entering my 8th year), and I got confirmed for freakin' UPPER BOWL (as opposed to better seats in the Lower Bowl), even though I requested "Best Available". Anyone else not get Lower Bowl like they were hoping for?
I've gone ahead and assumed that Lower Bowl (from looking at the map) means pool/garden/terrace; Upper Bowl means super seats and the section immediately behind it; Rear Bowl means the last two sections. So it really will be a mystery as to what Upper Bowl means. Here's the seating chart:
http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tix/seating_chart.cfm
Hey, at the end of the day, I'm still seeing DMB at one of the best freakin' venues in the ENTIRE WORLD.
Kara
ps - I quantify "entire world" because I saw John Williams there in Summer '02 conduct the Phil doing his favorite compositions (including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, etc.) -- with James Earl Jones narrating the whole night. :D
pps - Reposted from another thread because I didn't know there was a Hollywood Bowl thread up (I'm the one who posted the seating chart...).

I am pretty bummed to. The wife was happy though. She is not thrilled with the amount of money I have been throwing down for the shows. She was cool about it all and said that if I really want to go she was fine with it. We have a year and half old son. He is very special and way to much fun to not be with. I guess if I have to sacrifice seeing the band at the bowl for him, it works for me.
One cool note about my son, he knows the woos during warehouse and even throws up his hands in the air. On perfect time too. Can't wait to take him to his first show.
To everyone going to this show out there, have a great time and hopefully I will see you there.

Hindsight being 20-20, I should not have been so greedy, or thinking that because I was 8-year member that I would just get seats, I should have broadend the request. My bad. Live and learn. TM or instant or help from the ticket exchange page.

Deserve? The WH has been so good to me, even this year. I requested 7 shows and got 5. Yes this was the first time that I was denied. One decline was for Alpine N2, which seems to me that everyone on these boards got declined for, and the other HB.
I have seen over 20 shows over the eight years as WH member and all the time the seats have been awsome. My wife and I attended the majority of the shows. When she can't go I take a friend and they always comment on how good the seats are.
So in my humble opinion, you deserve the same good, good time, and seats, that I have had at shows over the 11 years I have been going to see DMB. This way, as a new member, you are happy and want to stay a member of the WH. For me, 8 great years. A decline was bound to happen. I am still going to stay a memeber of the WH and continue to get seats through them.

I have NEVER been declined. I have gotten seats everytime i have requested, with one exception (Randalls last year).

As for seats, last year at Chula Vista I was 15 rows back DEAD CENTER. HDC N1 a touch right, 7th row. N2, right in front of LeRoi, 4th row.
All in all, I have never sat worse then 20 rows back. Been very spoiled to this point. And a bit greedy too. When you get pampered for as long as I have been, it is tough to swallow when you get declined. But like people have alreay mentioned, I will keep my eyes out for seats. Things happen and someone is bound to have to dump some seats. Hopefully I can be so damn lucky to get them.
Are the song references getting lame? I don't know why I keep doing them. Maybe it is helping me cope with the pain of being declined.

I couldn't even afford to try to get tickets via the WH lottery for these shows. It's all good. I've got tons of other things going on right now (moving) that require my money. Regarless, I'll still make it to the SoCal shows.
I'm not sure if you guys heard this, but Fonzie just moved to SoCal! He didn't say where, but it's in his latest interview that was posted on the Ants homepage. Cool shit huh? Maybe I'll see him on the slopes one day or something.

My .02 on the ticket situation(if you don't have them)...
...try on TM or at the box office tomorrow. I bet if you do it first thing, you will get lower or upper bowl. Then get instants when they come. You will find someone who will buy the tickets you don't want for face because the show is going to sell out and there are always people, if not here than on Craig's List, who will buy the tix last minute.

Only if you can promise that you could pay me back immediately. I'm willing to do favors, but I'm not a money tree and this is the time of year (ticketing season) when my bank account is extra sensitive.

I just feel really bad for all of the senior members who were denied.
And I don't want any of them to kill me for the tickets they deserve.
Deserve?! Oh, sweetie, that's nice of you to say that, but as an eight-year member I don't really deserve anything. I expect it, sure, but I don't deserve it. ;)
It's cool that you got great seats -- by scoring great seats, that keeps you excited about the band and the WH, which keeps you coming back next year and renewing, which means the band keeps touring, which means we all get to spend some crazy, lazy, hazy, wonderful summer nights together surrounded by a lot of positive energy.
Now you tell me if there's anything wrong with that? :D

I think he is moving to Laguna Beach, the real OC. Man I hate that crap. Makes everyone in OC look like a bunch of spoiled a-holes. Not the case.
I used to live down PCH in San Clemente and went to Laguna all the time. Killer place to hang. Just don't believe what you see on TV about the place. It does it no justice.

I really just try to keep things in perspective, you know? I just survived another cancer scare, my brother's serving in Iraq... and yet I still get to fly to the Left Coast to see DMB with my husband. So I'm sitting in the Upper Bowl, who cares? It's only a seat, and I'll still love the show.

Right on dude! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the PCH! You can't go wrong L-I-V-I-N near it dude. It's arguably the coolest road in America. Yeah, those lame ass yuppie shows definitely give Orange County and Laguna Beach a bad name. Total misrepresentation of what SoCal really is about. MTV is totally fucking up our image down here (not that I should care about our image or anything), but there're also changing our culture for the negative. Kids down here think it's OK to act like they do on the shows. It's frustrating as hell dude. That's why I moved my happy ass to one of the last true SoCal beaches, Ocean Beach. Totally laid back, surfer/hippie community (extra emphasis on community). God I love OB :) :cool Beautiful weather today, no?
Oh yeah, and I still don't have my tickets yet. I'll get them soon, though. I'm definitely not stressing about getting tickets. Never have - never will. DMB's been the most intricate part of my life for the past six or seven years. That's not going to change anytime soon :)

I got into the system IMMEDIATELY after 10AM (wait was less than 30 secs)...but of course, the system bounces me out with the infamous "we cannot process this request due to a systems issue". Bla bla bla...
I tried again, got these seats. Saw they were selling out quick, so I took them. Now though...there are still seats available. I thought they would for sure sell out!
Does anybody wonder who in the world gets the Garden and Terrace seats? I dont see how they can go thru Ticketmaster....at 10:03, the best I could pull up was Section S. Youre not telling me that they sold out the 3/4 of the bowl in 3 mins, yet cant sell out the entire venue in an hour. I dont think so....

I was waiting on the TM site right at 10 and requested 2 tix as soon as it opened. My first two pulls gave me L3 way on the side. I figured I would be better off closer to center, but further back. Another try gave me way up in the last section and i figured it was almost sold out, but didn't want to settle for such garbage. One more try gave me section S; much further back than I had hoped but at least it's dead center. The Bowl is a small venue it's truly a wonderful treat that DMB is playing there. A few people in the TM thread said they got sect D or E, then there were some Ls.
So, to answer your question, who gets all the Garden and Terrace seats? Most of these seat NEVER go on sale at all. Of course, any WH tickets were taken from those areas somewhere. However, the bulk of those seats are all reserved and are never sold. Most of them are then used for promotional purposes. One example is radio giveaways. LA has a big radio market. I worked for Music Plus back in the day and I was a wizard on the Ticketmaster computer. So, this is not just speculation. I saw it at EVERY show that went on sale. The very first, best seats that come out of the computer right at the moment of sale were always several sections back.

cool. So how is the whole experience at the bowl. Home Depot Center was nice, because even if you sat in the risers or the upper seats, you had a great view. Although, HDC is the only venue I've ever been to, so I can't compare it to anything else.

no, just night 2. same in 04. My plan was to get both nights this year, and a show farther south, but then they changed for some weird reason, and my plans were screwed up. didn't dmb have some contract at HDC, since they were the first band to play there?

about 2 years ago. funny story, I was looking for a Linkin Park cd, when I saw Some Devil sitting right next to it, and Dave looking at me, and I;m like, "hmm" so I listened to Too High, and bought the album. Then I bough tickets on ebay to 1-14-04 down in san diego, and it was my first concert. Then I realized that Dave and Friends wasn't his real band, so I picked up Live in Central Park, listened to DDTW, and immediately found my new favorite band. the end. haha.

so absolutely no difference, just about 400% better chances of getting good seats. (excluding the obvious)
btw, is it too obsessive that I made a spreadsheet of the Winter Tour, and a spreadsheet of the 2006 summer tour including Jazzfest and Dave Solo in May? :lol it is just to look at the setlists as they unfold during the summer. My way of wasting the time... oh man.

cool, well...I am trying to think of cool places for you to visit.....Six Flags Magic Mountain is awesome. I've got a pass there, and I went last summer basically everyday till I was so tired of it I threw up...but Its a lot of fun. It has the most rollercoasters, one of the tallest, fastest, biggest loops, etc etc. brag brag. Anyway, they are finishing building some weird flying roller coaster where you lay down facing the ground and fly through loops and all this. Looks insane, can't wait till it opens. Its actually located in Valencia, which is the town I live in. Anyway, thats me rambling...

I have a question...
Somebody earlier in this thread said that celebrities and radio stations got all the really good tickets.
Does anybody know which LA-area radio stations are giving away tickets? And maybe during what time of day? I know it's like the lottery, but worth a shot.
Example: I know that Mark and Brian have a few tickets for this concert. 95.5 KLOS from 6 - 10AM daily.

I would say any major radio station in the LA market will be giving away tickets to this show. As stated before this will be the Hollywood Star's night out show. Lots of celebs.
KLOS, 106.7 KROQ, Star 98.7, maybe even 102.7 KIIS will be giving away seats. I am in the same boat as you trying yo get creative finding seats.

Couldn't agree more about the Magic Kingdom. I live about 10 minutes from the park. I used to have a annual pass and my wife and I would go about 3-4 times per month. There is alot of stuff you don't see or do in a single day trip there.
Walt was a very creative man. Or at least the people working for him had way to much fun creating and designing things around the park. Check out htis book if you have time Mouse Tales by David Koenig. Pretty cool, quick read. There is a sequel to that book as well.

We got to check the whole amphitheater out, and even go on stage! I also got some shots of the hallway that the musicians go down to go backstage. I'll post pics later. Sweet. Can't wait to check those out.
Also for everyone going, I have talked to people that have seen shows at the Bowl before and everyone said expect HEAVY traffic going in and out of the show. With the show being on a Monday, I am sure that it will be worse then anyone can imagine. And having lived in SoCal for 25 years, and driving in it for 15, I have been in some nasty HelLa traffic.
