BOWA then Pig to start things off was incredible!
The crowd was fairly dead, but it was a fun show. They got the most excited for WAYG which is sort of rediculous.
When I heard the opening notes to nancies I drunkenly shouted to my buddy "warehouse is next bitches!!!!!" the people around me thought I was nuts (of course WH was a given). The band started playing warehouse and they thought I was psychic or something. Funny as hell.
The show was great, Smooth Rider with Randolph was fun, everyone but Butch, Roi, and Rashawn had hats on.
Overall I think it went Chula>Hollywood>Irvine. Fun weekend!
I enjoyed meeting a lot of ants out there. Thanks Michelle (Angelsfan) for the beers and what not, it was awesome, and thanks to Adam (Wenkytesh) for the tickets.
See you all next year!
he had one on at first then took it off. actually it might have been roi. it was one of the two. then they took it off and put it on top of the stack they've got by their little table where they store there shiza.

Do I read the encore correct? They were suppose to play ABI, then So Right, and Ants? That damn curfew cost you die hards ABI!!
That blows. All the SoCal shows lost a song that was just perfect. Irvine lost Last Stop, Chula lost Rhyme and Reason, and now the Bowl loses ABI. :lorraine

High expectations and last night sucked for me. I was one to blame the crowd for blowing it in Irvine. But in Hollywood the band blew the big one. I was sitting yes SITTING with a bunch of Warehouse members most have been to the So Cal swing of shows. All we could think of is what the hell are they playing? RADIO RADIO RADIO. I was thinking are they trying to impress Sam Ruben?
The only highlight were the jams. The Salsa Jam with Rashawn Ross is nice. The Louie Louie Jam is cool. Robert Randolph passing everyone feathered hats was funny ass hell. Dave Speak was great. But the band just wasn't up for a good show. Stefan looked bored ass hell out there. Especially during WAYG, as did Boyd.
I'm never coming to an LA show again. I won't discontinue the band, because they have talent, but yesterday I felt cheated by not seeing that talent. They sterotype the audience, and I just don't fit in with the LA crowd, and shouldn't be hearing a shitty LA set list.
The acoustics were great. But the lack of energy wasn't because of the crowd. Everyone was up and dancing during BOWA but when the repeats came out and out and out, i was back on my seat.

If there was a taper at the show, they will post their tape for downloading via BitTorrent.
I am pretty sure i spotted two tapers last night.

I feel that a big part of the problem with the crowd is the large number of comp tickets that go out. STAR 98.7 was promoting the show and giving away a lot of tickets. So a bunch of the yahoos in the crowd only knew a few radio songs.
I was most disappointed to not get Two Step. Why Dave?

yeah it's weird to see that. A) because the USC jersey's don't have the names on the back B) Because it looked like a mixture of a cowboy vest and a jersey with those frills which made me think of Texas and how much of a pardox that was. and C) because i went to high school with and was a teammate of Reggie's for three years.
Trippy.

Hey, I won tix's off STAR in 2004! :p The seats were good, not GREAT ... but the feeling of winning DMB tix's was awesome!

I love reviews like these..... have you not seen any setlists from oh... let's say.. the last 5 years? DMB always picks songs just like they have been, although this year has been a tad better then most in recent years.... if you go with any other expectations, you'll spend the whole night sitting down....
sad to read that true fans think the band duped them in any way, or didn't perform up to level..... you musta been watching a different show then I did last night....

yep, some of us got a different show and different venue, the people in this venue were glued to their seats, and the sound up there wasn't as good as in your venue.

I too feel that the audience Monday night totally sucked. I was having a great time singing and dancing from my center bench seats, but everyone around me was sitting and it just wasn't much fun. I agree with earlier posts that people (I think) were expecting more radio songs. I think we got a pretty cool set though; I enjoyed it. I must say though I had MUCH more fun in Irvine a few nights before because the audience was more energetic. Audiences really do make a difference!
I also recall Dave saying something in between a song at the Bowl and then said: "Try not to be too mellow about it" or something like that. The band didn't have energy because no one else did!

Sorry, but for me the Bowl show just didn't do it. It just never felt like the show got going. I guess I shouldn't compare it to the Chula show but after getting close to a three hour set with Two Step, Jimi, Tripping, Seek up and DDTW, Hollywood just seemed VERY mediocre.
There were a few bright spots though, Leroi was phenominal, WWYS was much tighter than at Chula, and I really enjoyed Smooth Rider with Robert :D

I completely agree about one thing - the crowd follows the band, NOT visa versa. What youre effectively saying is that if the crowd is mellow and/or clueless, then band is going to be mellow. I disagree because if you listen to early Dave concerts, the crowd sounds subdued, but the energy that DMB put forth is amazing! They knew that the crowd reaction was going to be less-than-steller because they were new on the "scene," but they put forth the energy anyway. Thats what DMB is....thats why I am proud to be a DMB fan....but thats not the DMB I saw on Monday night.
Remember - It's an entertainer's job to entertain people...if they are entertained, they cheer!
This kind of concert is the exact reason why I've gone from seeing 3-4 DMB concerts per tour...down to 2....now to 1. And god knows what I'll do next summer after they release "Stand Up - The Sequel"......

Maybe I'm totally clueless about this, but I swore I read somewhere in 2002 that DMB picked the songs as the set went on. In other words, they didnt pre-plan the set.
So this proves that belief wrong? They knew what songs they were going to play before going on stage?

Somone in the Chula thread, I think, posted that they either saw or got the setlist from one of the camera guys who sit at the front of the stage.
I will agree that if R&R had been played not only would my wife had died, her favorite song, but my head probably would have exploded. With all the intense shit during that show, that song might have put it over the top, in terms of sheer energy.
I sadly, or maybe not, was not at the Bowl. (Family obligations kept me from attending this show. First show in SoCal in 11 years that I have missed.) I will say that as the set list unfolded on line, I was a bit surprised and bummed at what I saw. I know that with a curfew, the song lenghts will change to meet the time table aloted by the venue. But song choice makes a huge difference in compensating for that.
Maybe the show was too hyped, ala Fenway, and just fell flat. So be it. If I had been there, I would have had a great time regardless. This show will not deter me from hitting more shows in the future. I really want to see them outside of the Southwest though. It may be time to change the venue locations to have a different expierence.

I just read the review page for this show, and one jumped out at me. It stated "to enjoy every show like it is the last. The ride has to end sometime."
This rings true for a lot of things, but people need to take the shows as they come. One day you might look back and go 'Damn, I was at that show.' Right now, not what you wanted. In a few years, 'I wish that they would go back to how it was in (enter year)...' Everyone has been to a show that was not what they expected/wanted. Guess what, they got over it and went back next year for more fun.
Bottom line, enjoy the shows. There is a reason that everyone on these boards comes here, and continues to return, the love for this band. The band is not getting any younger, Carter will be 49 this year and LeRoi 45 in a week, this run will end one day. Then what.
So why don't we just sit back and enjoy the ride. Cause what a ride it is.

I just thought of something. According to the setlist posted, ABI was cut from our encore. If it had been played, the Stand Up percentage would have been even higher, like over 30%. Apparently the Bowl is anal about that 11 PM cutoff.

From what I read that day about the curfew, they are very strict. Almost nazi-esque about it. At one time, non-weekend shows actually had a 10:45 curfew. That would have meant a nice 1 song encore.

It will be up soon I'm sure.
Have you heard Jon Koch's recording of 8/25 and 8/26? They're outstanding. I was listening to them at the office today with my headphones on and it sounded like I was sitting right there.
Haven't heard his 8/26, but Craig's 8/25 is better than Jon's 8/25. Sorry Jon, it's the truth.

Aw, fuck that last post. I meant Craig's 8/26 is better than Jon's. Haven't heard any 8/25 yet. Did Craig tape 8/28? I would assume he did....

After reading that the Bowl had an 11 p.m. curfew, and being bummed last summer because of Hershey's 11 p.m. curfew, I have two thoughts:
1. When Warehouse releases the tour dates, perhaps they could put an asterisk after each venue that has a curfew.
2. Cut out the opening act and have DMB go right on at 7 p.m.
I'm guessing the band won't go with #2, but it doesn't seem like #1 would be all that hard to do!
Having said that, knowing what I know now, I'm putting in for Chulajuana next year! :)

You know, I got to reading reviews, and yes, people are entitled to their opinions, but here's a different take...
What a fanfreakingtastic show. This is my 12th show, 9th year seeing the band, and I must say, the magic of the Bowl and the sweetness of the songs makes this show rank in my top 3 of all time. Sure, people can knock the set or the band or the crowd...but come on, even on an off day (and I'm not saying this is one of those), but even on an off day, any DMB show is still better than anything else out there.
Complaining about Bowl v. Chulajuana? Oh well! That's the gamble of choosing which shows to go to.
Complaining about song selection being redundant? Too bad! Some of us didn't go to Coors or Irvine, so for us this show was special because we didn't just see the other two SoCal shows.
I wouldn't been heartbroken to not here Loving Wings, and so glad we did. It has a special place in my and my husband's hearts. Overall, the lighting was spectacular: all-time favorite, #1 with a bullet -- only the Bowl, due to it's shells, could have this light show, fan's will never be able to see this again, unless DMB does the Bowl again. The crowd around us in H was great. The band lit up the Hollywood Hills like the 4th of July.

I can't say I am surprised by what happened at the Bowl(lackluster set, band was off, crowd was out of it) but it has made me think about if I am ever going to a show again. I am totally out of it and am not that into this band at this moment...which is the opposite of what usually happens after I see my shows of the summer.
I am sure I will buy tix next year(I am a first year Warehouse member and all), but my expectations are totally lowered.

or 3. The band could come on at 8:10 or 8:15 instead of 8:30.
To their credit, that was the shortest encore break I've ever heard.
And finally, I've only heard the Shotgun from Jon's tape, but the quality is on par with the best tapes I've heard this summer.

My thoughts EXACTLY. I've cut my Dave concert spending from multiple concerts a year down to one. Now I'm wondering if that one is even worth it, especially since every show is now taped and I can skip the crap shows (a la The Bowl).

Calling all Hollywood Bowl 2006 Poster Owners!!!
I bought a poster that night, now I am trying to sell it, and I just noticed that it is not numbered! Can anyone else tell me honestly if theirs is numbered or not.....
Does the poster company sell reprints the same night? Just curious, any help will do!!!
