I totally agree. They have never played the veue before, I think, plus all the mystic about "The Bowl." Don't want to put to much emphasis on a show, or build up my hopes, but kind of hard with this show. Nice to see them play a really cool place in LA. The Greek would have been unreal, and unrealistic. Too small of a place for just one night.

Saw the Rolling Stones there this year, its a great venue, very different from normal venues. Its gonna be a great show!!

I have to say...I saw Radiohead there in 2003 and it is a terrible venue for a concert. Specifically, there isn't a sense of unity at the show. If you aren't in the 2000 best seats, you are guaranteed a terrible view. The acoustics are good though...Also, the venue is like 5 minutes from my house so I kinda have to go...
What are people doing? Is everybody doing Irvine, SD and then Hollywood? I would do Irvine and Hollywood but I fear major repeats between the two shows. Thoughts?

i think you're right... but then again you never know, i am going to both regaurdless, just for the fact that it's the hollywood bowl which is such a historic place in it self and it's going to be one of the top shows of the summer... MARK MY WORDS! hopefully they get a good opener. flecktones would be redic.

Hi Mike, long time no see! You can't complain man, you have spac. That is my fav place after the gorge. You should come out for some west coast shows...I'm moving up to SF, so if you came out for the gorge or shoreline ;)
How's NY treating you?

I am going to try and swing the SoCal trifecta, Irvine, SD and Hollywood. As for repeats, they happen regardless, just hoping for some good shows. Like the ones in the past have been bad or something. Have to think that they have something up there sleeves for this show.

My best Friend wants me to move out there w/ him (bay area). I am def debating it but prob won't make it before the gigs. Would def like to hang out with you & mike when the time is right.
I haven't been to SPAC since 04' so I will def hit that up both nights. Debating on Randall's since BF&FT will be there :shrug , went last year so not sure. Prob Fenway if it happens.
NY is good, just freezing my buns off :thumbsdow , I am not a winter person to say the least.

Ya I remember you were originally going to move to SF. Oh well, maybe we'll all get to tailgate at some shows this year. I haven't spoken to Chase or Jeff or anybody in a while, but would be fun...

I have seen James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Rolling Stones, Oasis, and Radiohead at the Hollywood bowl. It is an amazing venue if you are sitting in the front 3rd of the bowl. After that, it does get a little far. Here's hoping that we all get great seats!
Best part about this venue: I LIVE WALKING DISTANCE!!!

HW will definitely be hard to get. One, becuase its the first time they have played there. And 2, it is only one night in LA. Previous years, it was 2 at the HDC which was easy for both LA and OC residents to get to. Now they are separate.

The only thing that makes me mad is that it is on a Monday. This means less time for me to party before. Also, tailgating will be very interesting at this one.

okay, i kind of have another random question...have you guys ever used those bracelets you can buy off of ebay to get into better sections at concerts, and if so, do they actually work?
whodat
03-01-2006, 02:31 PM
I would be a bit skepticle that a wrist band would work. At HDC and Chula Vista i have never seen a wrist band system used for DMB shows, so they might not work.
If the price is right though, it might be worth the risk.

Agreed on both accounts. I don't think I can make it to Irvine because it is on a Friday(work day). Also...what tailgating? Personally, because it is on a Monday, I don't see myself getting out of work any earlier than 6(which I will have to arrange ahead of time as that is 'leaving early') and Hollywood Bowl doesn't exactly have any great lots that work for tailgating.
I imagine my WH seniority will get me good seats and all, but the the Hollywood Bowl really sounds better on paper than what it really will be in reality.
Right now I am considering driving down to SD for the Saturday show just to have the more 'traditional' DMB show...Have to check with my DMB concert-going friend to see if he wants to do that...
By the way, it is 03/01/06 and I am going on record as saying they will open with One Sweet World.

I live 2 miles from a park that has park and ride busses to the Hollywood Bowl. I'm going to try that. However, I thought DMB signed a contract with the Group in charge of HDC and Staples, and they had to play another 2 years at HDC if they are to play in Ventura, OC or LA counties they had to play at HDC.
I may be totally wrong, but I thought that was what the deal was for HDC. Since DMB was the first concert in the soccer stadium. Maybe they broke the contract? Or the contract ended? Any thoughts? Was there a contract, and I'm completly wrong?

HAHA....I find it funny how people are saying how far back youll be in the Hollywood Bowl. It cant be any farther back than in the Home Depot Center!
I liked the convenience of the HDC...they had a good parking and driving situation, and its in a convenient location. Convenient ticketing.
Hollywood Bowl is less convenient, but hopefully it will still be a great concert venue. It better be a better venue, or else the added stress of getting tickets/traffic/parking wont be worth it.
Now...best way to get in the front 1/3 of the bowl? Since it's a single-night stand, will Warehouse pick based on seniority or randomness?

I hope it is seniority. Typically, one night stands are seniority so we'll see...
Somebody called the Hollywood Bowl intimate...nothing could be further from the truth. As you said, if you aren't in that front third your view is worse than that on the lawn of your average amphitheatre. And if you are on the benches? Forget about it. You will be wishing you were on D4 at the HDC.
To people who don't get tix, you can go up to this spot on Muholland and listen to the show. The sound won't be great(haha...ha) but it beats hanging on the net and looking at the realtime setlists.

They don't out in LA fast at all, last sellout was the first '03 show at HDC I believe, but with only one show at a relatively small venue, I expect Hollywood Bowl tickets to go fast.

To answer your question, I am pretty sure if you join the WH and order the tickets you will get approved and will get a pair of tickets SOMEWHERE in the venue...however, as a first year member, it probably won't be the best seats in the house.
You are located in Valencia, so I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new(plus I've said it about 3 times in the 2 pages of this thread) but the Hollywood Bowl just isn't the best venue to see a concert like DMB. I don't antcipate this concert being any better / more special than the ones in Irvine and SD that precede it. Personally, I'm going because I love DMB and happen to live about 5 minutes(by car) from the venue....so, honestly, how can I not go? But I wouldn't reccommend spending crazy amounts of money because you anticipate something special here...

No.
Not that their radio songs are bad, really (at least, I don't think most of them are)..... but the people who only know them by the radio tunes and listen to lots of crappy pop don't need to be at the shows.
I say this now, but I can usually ignore them pretty well when it comes down to it.

I live in the SoCal area about 45 minutes south of Hollywood, and I've actually been on stage at the Hollywood Bowl. It's a pretty neat place for a concert: very intimate and great sounding acoustics. I am a little disappointed they won't be at the HDC this year, because I really liked that spot the past two years I went. I can't blame them though; west coast crowds are never as big as the east coast, which is why I'm guessing we're getting smaller venues this year with one-nighters. The Hollywood Bowl holds about half the capacity of the HDC, by the way.

Long time, indeed! I've been away from the boards for a while. Nothing new, really. I'm getting out of the Marines soon, so I'm looking forward to that. Also looking to getting another SoCal Ants reunion soon in the spirit of the new season :)

Ya I haven't been around much either with school, but I'm done in may and looking to move to the bay area. A reunion would be awesome, to get ready for summer. That's great about you finishing up, I wish you luck in finding a job or moving or whatever you are planning to do :)

1. Both Fenways (provided they DO play Fenway.
2. Both Hartford, CT shows.
3. Alpine.
4. All SoCal shows (not Shoreline, unforutnately, Sac, or Gorge).
5. I may be able to squeeze a few more dates in there some where, but it'll be tough!
I'd especially like to hit up Hollywood! I've not been to the Bowl, yet, and am wicked excited for the Irvine show! The Meadows (Irvine) is a great place for tailgating and shows alike.

Don't you fret my little friend. You'll get tickets. It'd be a different story if we lived in the North East where DMB is as popular as apple pie and Coca-Cola, but here in SoCal you won't have much difficulty finding your way into the venue. If you do, let me know and I'll hook it up :)

Another great thing about the Hollywood Bowl is thier BYOB policy:
You may bring food and drink to the Hollywood Bowl, but for the safety of all our patrons and to comply with fire regulations, the aisles and walkways of the Hollywood Bowl must be kept clear at all times. Therefore, large containers, picnic baskets, or coolers measuring more than 15" wide, 15" high, or 20" long will not be permitted past the ticket gate. Re-usable containers (such as Tupperware or sipper bottles), holding food or beverages are permitted in the theatre, as are wine bottles and wine glasses. Please note: kegs, pony kegs and party balls are not permitted. (For Lease Events, please see Special Policies for Lease Events.)

I actually want to buy a glass piece somewhere in LA and take the first hit out of it at the show. Then name it Hollywood.
No. No one in Los Angeles smokes weed...

Thanks for the advice -- which I will take! I'm thinking either Santa Cruz or Santa Rosa. The nearest island to the mainland (forgot the name already... starts with an 'A') sounds a little too crowded for my tastes.
I'm glad I pack very light, so I can bring my tent along with me on the train. :DWe did Santa Cruz, and there is plenty of hiking to keep you busy for a few days. the campground was full but we didn't see a soul all day hiking...

Well, get ready to sleep (A LOT), watch a lot of movies and walk around the airplane our of sheer boredom. It's a good 20 hours to LA and about 17 hours back to Australia because of the jet stream. It'll be worth it though, especially since it looks like you're going to the Gorge :)

Yeah, too bad :lol I am frustrated somewhat with the whole senority thing, because there are really devoted fans who haven't joined the Warehouse for one reason or another, then there are other people who joined it a long time a go, and only renew for a chance to meet the band. I think that they should have a test for who gets good seats.
1. Who is Dave Matthews
a - like, Dave Matthews?!
b - that guy who sings Hike up The Skirt, or what is it, oh yeah, Crash.
c - The lead singer/guitarist for DMB. Born and raised in South Africa, his music represents the culture and tongue of the heart of Africa.
d - That guy who sang Angel From Montgomery, but I can't remember who originally wrote it

So, if you request lower bowl and don't get those tickets.... do you get completely shafted or does the WH just bump you back to not-as-good seats in the upper and rear bowl?
