Accept the fact that you were all owned by pathetic then. Omgz sox are done april!!!!!

Who said this?? I remember people asking your opinions, but I don't remember anybody saying that they were outright finished. Any smart person would have told you that 2-10 through the first 12, while not the way you want to start, wasn't a record the Sox were going to carry through the entire season.

I mean look at the post you quoted. It is riddled in sarcasm and the typical banter that I'm known for. Someone with 30,000 posts should be better than that.

:lol Ricky we make sarcastic posts all the time in the Red Sox thread and then you jump all over us. Like when we kept saying the Sox were done two weeks into the season :lol you need to accept that fact that you just got owned by TJ - maybe take a week or two off from posting

:lol

I know Ricky was joking but I still thought that was an interesting fact. A dude that can't hit the ball out of the infield has the third most hits on a first place team.

NEW YORK -- Mariano Rivera has the most postseason saves in baseball history. The New York Yankees closer also has more World Series saves than any other reliever.

On Wednesday, the seemingly ageless Rivera added another record to his resume.

Rivera made his 1,000 career appearance against the Toronto Blue Jays, becoming the first pitcher to reach the 1,000-appearance plateau with one team. He is the 15th pitcher in major league history to appear in 1,000 games.

i seem to recall them doing that in 2009 when dmb played at fenway. yankees were in first place by % points but boston was on top. at least thats how i remember it. i'm trying to find AL east standings for that weekend in 2009 but am failing

i remember more vividly now...the 2nd night i had like 20th row seats, and we went in near the green monster. i had a picture taken of me right next to the wall and i remember thinking "wtf, the yankees are in first place, but boston is on top"

here's the 30th standings as well

Who is this guy Pineda anyways? Where did he come from? Just looking at the matchup now and realizing he's got great numbers

i believe he's a rookie this year. and ya, he's been pitching great so far this season. i haven't had a chance to watch him yet being on the opposite coast, but i grabbed him in my fantasy league a few weeks ago and he's been putting up some pretty good outings. a one-two punch of him and felix are going to be tough. if only they can get some offense they'd have a chance to win the west one of these years.

schreiber89
05-27-2011, 02:54 PM
They also need to be able to keep both of them :lol

edit: the indians could have lee and sabathia right now

spoot388
05-27-2011, 02:59 PM
:lol well ya, that too. but dont the M's still have a few years on felix before he heads east? i'm not expecting them to get to the world series, but i think they could make a run at the AL West in the next couple years if they get some hitting.

schreiber89
05-27-2011, 03:00 PM
Yeah I think they have Felix locked up untol '13 or '14 - not sure though

It's true if you have two dominant starters you can be very dangerous in the playoffs - especially in that first series

spoot388
05-27-2011, 03:29 PM
so far this season, the M's have 12 wins the 20 starts between felix and pineda. those pitchers got 11 of those 12 W's. at that rate, the M's will have 35-40 wins this season just in games those 2 guys start, and that is with one of the worst offenses in baseball. the rest of their starters are 8-11, and the M's are 11-17 overall in their starts, and i counted like 4 or 5 loses by 1 run. the M's are 24-25, and with a better offense they could easily be 30-20 right now.

adam kennedy has the SECOND HIGHEST average on the team with a .272. smoak is 3rd with a .263. ichiro, the leadoff hitter, is 2nd on the team in RBIs with 17, 9 behind smoak. by contrast, the yankees have 5 players with as many RBIs as smoak, or more.

I do not care about seeing Jeter's 3,000th. Rather save my money.

I will, however, be pricing out tickets and planning when Mo gets to around 595+ saves come September. I would love to be there when he breaks Hoffman's record! :)

Just want to be clear - since Lsculla made me look like an asshole :lol - that I'm not going to the game because I think Jeter will get his 3000th

Just going to see them at Wrigley with my Dad for fathers day - the fact he might get 3000 is just an added bonus

Lcsulla
06-02-2011, 03:04 PM
Making you look like an asshole was absolutely not my intent. Apologies.

That would be a cool poll but I will confine it to this thread.

If you had your choice what would you rather see in person, Jeter's 3,000th hit or Mariano's 602nd save?

Lcsulla
06-02-2011, 03:05 PM

Lcsulla

I understand but I would MUCH rather see Mo break the all time record. Mo is my favorite player - ever.

Plus, I have some dubious claims to fame with seeing Yankee historic moments live.

Saw Clemens last start.
Saw Joe DiMaggio's last first pitch
Saw (unfortunately) Yanks being bombed in game 7, 2004 ALCS.

Lcsulla

i'd say mo's accomplishment. it'll be a lot more special than hoffman doing it. during hoffman's final years he was broken and pathetic looking on the mound. mo is still as dominant now as he's ever been. great accomplishment.

that being said it'd be nice to see him blow a couple more before the big 602

Lcsulla
06-02-2011, 04:04 PM
I hope NOT. I do not mind if the Yankees loose but if Mo is the cause I loose faith in baseball. It's just such a rarity - even at his age. :lol

Still, a 2.01 era is nothing to sneeze at for any pitcher.

I think Mo's save might be more exciting, just because of the buildup for the entire game, you know? Plus, I have so much respect and admiration for Mo. Not that I don't for Jeter, but Mo embodies sportsmanship way more than Jeter does. Mo coming out and tipping his cap to the Red Sox fans after they gave him a standing ovation at the opening game of the '05 season was pure class.

FunkyTeaParty

Lcsulla

Mo is the best closer ever, I doubt anyone would argue that. He is also probably the most consistently dominating PLAYER over the last 15 years.

Plus, that is an all time record. Jeter is just joining a select club. That is why I would rather see Mo's milestone.

I realize that, though it is sort of stunning. Even so, Mariano breaking an all time career record is more important than Jeter getting to 3000 IMO.
