Another dominate performance for Wang...man he looked again like the best pitcher in the world yesterday....he added in that kinda off speed splitter type pitch yesterday that was dropping about a foot....Plus his slider yesterday was moving almost as much as Joba's..
Those other pitches just make his sinker even more un-hittable...
9 k's yesterday as well......Plus he had more fly ball outs then ground ball outs which is unusual for Wang
thehoss
04-28-2008, 12:21 PM
the flyball thing scares me. granted he pitched great, when you're a sinkerballer, you dont want flyballs obviously. but it doesnt worry me this year like it would have last year. he's got alot more to his game than just the sinker now, so he's in good shape

It seems that only applies to starting pitching. I curse that douche Farnsworth every chance I get, and what happens? He pays me back by giving up more runs. Goody. (Actually, Farnsworth is starting to do better. He's lowered that ERA to 3.65... you know what? Never mind. Fuck Farnsworth...)

probably a combo of the weather and him messing around with his delievery. there was an article that compared his windup and delievery from two years ago when he was owning the minors to when he came up last year. he isnt driving down as much i believe the conclusion was so that his fastball velocity took a hit but phil said that he had a better feel for his curve.

I'm not surprised. I think Hughes threw 82 pitches last night in 3.2 innings (if you give him the extra out, that would've been 20 pitches an inning). But at lest Ohlendorf threw a good game, and showed some signs of prominence.

if johnny damon wasn't playing CF last night, Hughes would have been out of the inning with no runs, instead Damon let 1 drop in front and it cost 'em 2 runs and Hughes about 10 more pitches

Like I said, b/c he came up only with his sinker. The Mets should have made an executive decision about whether to leave him in the bullpen until the rest of his pitches developed, or kept him in AAA. They did neither, they kept his development in limbo and you're seeing the results of that.

I want to fast forward to the decent outings by Hughes and Kennedy. I don't even look forward to seeing Hughes on the mound again, regardless of the weather, the catcher, anything. Well, every team runs into obstacles along the way. Attribute this to old age and bad signings (and A-Rod, who makes more annually than the entire Florida Marlins roster). There's a guy I work with who doesn't know much about sports (he's that guy that always jumps into conversations, and says the most blanketed obvious statements to make it look like he knows what he's talking about... you all know that guy.). Every time I mention baseball or the Yankees, I hear "With their payroll, they should be 162-0 every year!" (not trying to call you out or anything, but sometimes people get paid what they don't deserve. See Jason Giambi, Mike Mussina, Johnny Damon, Alex Rodriguez, etc).
As far as Hughes goes, I expected rough outings, but given what he did last year in the playoffs, I didn't expect him to get molested every time he went out. I didn't expect Kennedy to go in and dazzle me from the get-go though.

Yeah, he earns his money, but 27 mil is a bit over the top, imo. I think if he "wanted to stay a Yankee" he could've taken a wayyy lower salary. But of course, if Moneybags Steinbrenner offered that kind of salary, I imagine it'd be hard (and stupid) not to take it.

I always figured a guy's salary was given with regards to success. Maybe not postseason (because we all know 1 guy doesn't make a team, and although you expect to, you don't always make the postseason). More like, "what gives me the best chance to make it to the postseason?"
A-Rod's projected to absolutely shatter the HR record and 1 (if not the) greatest offensive player ever, so if I had a guy like that on my team, I'd pay him more than most. And I doubt (but have no proof mind you) that he'll go into a slump every time they make the postseason. Besides, he'll have plenty of chances with the Yankees.

Ok this money argument is really just starting to get obnoxious and is flat out ignorant. Anyone with have a brain knows you don't always pay the right price for talent. Barry Zito makes 126 million dollars and is in the bullpen. The Royals paid 55 million dollars for some no name. Right now it is not a matter of money spent. Money does not equal talent. Anyone with half a brain can figure that out. Johnny Damon= Overpaid talent, Hideki Matsui= old overpaid talent, Mike Mussina= washed up overpaid talent, Jason Giambi= old over paid talent, a 275 million dollar man and a 50 million dollar player are both on the DL not to mention an important reliever, and a member of the starting rotation( no matter how bad he is doing). So before people make stupid comments like with a 200 million dollar pay roll the yankees should make the playoffs every year. Anyone who knows anything about baseball should know that team chemistry and actual talent leads you to the playoffs. This money argument is just old and outdated. Analyze talent not money you morons.
And to whoever said Baseball is the easiest professional sport to play. Wake up and stop making dumb comments, thats not ignorant its just dumb. Not to mention your thing says "if you cannot argue well dont argue at all". Take your own advice please.

I'd do it, just to see if this works.
Didn't Howard Stern try to do the same thing with American Idol?

yeah...i just emailed Votefortheworst.com to see if they'd support this idea...how great would it be to see him get voted in?
i'd email the Stern show, but what are the chances he'd give a shit about this? i might shoot him an email anyway, just for shits...never know, i guess.
I really have too much free time on my hands.

Yeah, but if this succeeded, they'd probably take the voting out of the fans' hands. Not that I care too much, but you know....

uh, yeah, the yankees are just retarded. I'd say as a whole no the Yankees are not retarded. Certain higher ups of the organization have made some stupid signings in the recent years yes. But when they build from within which they are trying to do now, they are going to be very good. You can't deny that

The one thing the yankees have done wrong over the years is the bullpen, and really pitching in general. with farnsworth, hawkins, pavano, kevin brown, clemens, jaret wright, sean chacon, randy johnson, paul quantrill, dotel, etc..., etc...
they finally have a chance to get a legit ace for the next 5 years, and they let the mets take him...i'm not really upset about this b/c i really think phil hughes will be legit (not kennedy), but the yanks can't complain too much b/c they had santana at their lap and they passed.

While I agree with most of those names, what was wrong with Shawn Chacon? They traded a spare part to get him and he was a very intricate part for them making the playoffs in 2005. In fact, they may not have made the playoffs that year if not for Chacon.
As for Santana, while he was "in their lap", the Twins significantly jacked up the price for the Yankees compared to other teams. Plus, $140M for a guy who had some arm trouble last year and was getting tuned up in the AL in the 2nd half of the last two seasons? No thanks.

cause Chacon's fluke 2nd half of 05 set up yankee fans (and management) everywhere thinking we had a starter to keep. a few months into 06 and he was on his ass getting pounded by the league before getting dealt for craig wilson. same with aaron small...

No and I think many of us accepted this at the beginning of the year. I didn't see them making it before this year. Now with the injuries piling up, I don't see them coming close and thats fine if it means a dynasty in years to come.

injuries are killing you guys. they had a gamebreak during the phillies game at like 730 and the yanks were winning. like 15 minutes later, the tigers retook the lead and 1 of our annouincers broke down whats been happening with the yanks as far as the pitching debacle and injuries.
sucks about hughes and posada. posada has always been the unsung hero of that team.

the yankees will make the playoffs this year. their hitting will come around, they have the absolute best 8th and 9th inning pitchers in baseball. wang and pettitte will be ok. moose will pitch .500. they need one more veteran starter to help them through this, but i do think they will win the wild card.

Well, since Hughes is going to be out till AS Break, and Kennedy is still getting slapped around (4 ER in 4.2 innings. Come on now...), I'm willing to accept no playoffs this year (unless they can pull off some blockbuster pitching trade). I think I'll look more to personal achievements (like A-Rod's HR tally, and Chien-Ming Wang's Cy Young campaign).
Oh well, dynasty here we come!

I have yet to see any source back that up, but it's a whisper going around.
And Posada may be out a long, long time as well.

Yeah? That's a hell of a quad injury. Did he tear something instead of straining it?
I imagined Posada would be out a while. Seems like he's been fighting this injury all year.
