I'm telling you that it's pretty weird to ask a player to possibly help beat his ex-team in order to help their playoff chances, yet he's ineligible for the postseason roster. Typical Sox. :)

Joe Buck (although I think he is a douche) said something like this during a random BOS/NY series... "Boston, up until last post season, thought Mariano Rivera was a robot made by George to throw 7 pitches/inning and to record saves. Dave Roberts, however was the end to that..."

as for tonights game :BANG
Good game marred IMHO by some REAL bad umpiring. That strike zone was floating all night. I've never seen so many batters griping about called strikes and pitchers griping about balls. At least be consistant... thank god that blind bastard ain't behind the plate tommorrow with RJ's recent temper and Wakefields bordeline strikes.
I'm not dumb enough to blame the loss on the umps but it seemed the Red Sox got the better end of a LOT of ball/strike calls.

That home plate umpire was the worst i've ever seen. He thought about everything.
But, the blame can't just be placed on him.
Posada does nothing with bases loaded and then runners on 2nd and 3rd
Sierra (god only knows why he was in the lineup) does nothing with bases loaded and then runners on 2nd and 3rd.
Wang, he's done great over the season, but 6 walks in a big game like this...walking in a run.
And Giambi making the big error.
Bad game for the Yanks. The main reason of getting Johnson was to beat the Red Sox. He's gotta do it tomorrow.

BOS 1-1, NYY 1-1, CLE 1-1
BOS 1-1, NYY 1-1, CLE 0-2
New York and Cleveland can make the playoffs if...
BOS 0-2, NYY 2-0, CLE 2-0
Boston and Cleveland can make the playoffs if...
BOS 2-0, NYY 0-2, CLE 2-0
PLAYOFF
New York and Cleveland could have a playoff for the wildcard if...
BOS 2-0, NYY 0-2, CLE 1-1
New York and Boston could have a playoff for the AL East and AL Wildcard if...
BOS 1-1, NYY 1-1, CLE 0-2
BOS 1-1, NYY 1-1, CLE 1-1
Boston and Cleveland could have a playoff for the AL Wildcard if...
BOS 0-2, NYY 2-0, CLE 1-1

boy the Yankees are really going to get whipped today. yeesh.
I am not looking forward to going to the Angels for those first two games.
By the way, I'm watching the game on MLB.tv and its the NESN broadcast, I loved how they flashed on the screen "Wild Card Champions". The wild card is exactly that, a wild card. It is not a set competition like a division. Winning the wild card, you are a champion of nothing so far. Just didn't make sense to me.

But if you're not Wild Card Champions, then you're sitting back at home while the boys play...it's just as much as championship as a division is...in this case the Sox tied New York's record, but the Yanks just had a better matchup against the Sox to win the division...either way, they are in.

That would be because in our head-to-head series over the length of the season (19 games total), the Yankees have won 10 and Boston has won 9. Therefore, Yankees win the division.

I think the Angels-Yanks series is going the distance, but I think batting wise we are a better team. If the boys hit up to their potential, we'll win. If ARod, Sheff, Jeter, and co. don't play up to potential then we lose. As simple as that. The Angels won't beat us. We'll beat ourselves if anything.

Exactly. In 2002 the bats just went horribly ice cold at the absolutely wrong time. The Yankees gotta come tomorrow and get runs early for Mussina and keep up steady pressure. In '02 they were having games of 2 runs, 5 hits. That can not happen this time if they plan to go anywhere. However, what broke that series was the Angels 'pen. They were on FIRE in 2002, and frankly, this is 2005. The Yankees performed surprisingly well off them during the season - a couple rough outings for K-Rod - so I feel better about that matchup. Either way I think it's going to be a nerve racking series, but in the end we will take it.

Yeah I think they will need to keep Small out of the relief efforts. I mean if the Yanks don't sweep, which I'm not assuming they will, Mussina will not be able to go on 3 days rest. They might need Small to start Game 4. I think he would be a better choice then Wang.

The Mets are going to the World Series next year.
Of course, they'll have to buy a ticket like everyone else.

I'm sorry, I don't know. He's kind of busy right now, unlike Pedro. :)

I mean you cant be sure of a win with Moose against The potential cy young winner and Wangs first startr in the playoffs. He made two mistakes, two high fastballs that cost him. O well big unit on Friday vs Paul Byrd???? i like our chances

Bottom line, A-Rod, Sheff and Matsui have to get going or yes, Paul Byrd could beat us.

Giambi and Griffey Jr. named comeback players of the year.

I just looked at Griffey's stats and that guy had a fantastic year. Especially for only playing in 128 games.

Doesn't look like this game is going to get in folks. It's going to pour all day and night in NYC.

Yeah, it looks pretty bad. So, assuming the game is rained out, would you pitch Mussina in game 4 or rest him for a possible game 5/game 1 scenario? Seems to me that the more time he has to recover the better he pitches.

yeah i talked to my friends in the city and they said it's awful there. my guess is rain out.

No shit...I've been pumped since Wednesday night for tonight. Too bad it probably won't happen.
And how about Boston dangerously close to getting swept?!? 4-2 ChiSox top 6....

I would love the Yanks to get this game in. But it might work out a little better for pitching to have everyone rested. Esp. the 6th and 7th inning where they usually shit the bed.

They are talking on ESPN now as if this game is going to happen. I can't imagine it will, they just haven't formally announced it.
I would hate for them to start it and possibly waste Johnson's arm.

Did anyone know that Bernie is the career postseason leader in almost all hitting categories, I saw on YES hes leading in HR's RBI's and Doubles , prolly more but there was a commericial .

Thankfully Boston is gone. Now we can all just concentrate solely on the Yankees winning.
Yes I knew that Bernie was the all-time leader in PH HRs and doubles and he's 2nd in hits behind Jeter.

Fuck you Randy Johnson. Buy out his contract, send him home. You were traded for games like this and you failed miserably. Get the fuck out of New York.
EDIT: I won't just blame Randy either. Just like 2002 our offense has decided not to show up. Alex Rodriguez could be the worst regular season to postseason performer I have EVER seen.
And Jeter's knee is clearly hindering him.

Robinson Cano could have just single handedly kept this game in reach. Small is so nasty, I said before this postseason he should have been starting!!!!!
Trippin4136
10-07-2005, 09:27 PM
Aaron Small is the best pitcher on this staff right now. That DP was gigantic and could turn the game but the bats MUST get going and Small has to stop the bleeding.
This rain is getting steadily harder too. They may call this one sooner than later. Problem is, after 4 1/2 inning the game is over.
Cano's ankle rolled the bag pretty hard there.

Oh no no no I never count the Yankees out in postseason ball. I can not believe this rally. This is as small as Yankee small ball gets.
Trippin4136
10-07-2005, 09:47 PM
God damn, what a play by Chone Figgins. Great rally. Small's gotta get them out 1-2-3 and get those bats back up there ASAP.
