Please let me know what you think. Its my first time recording. I know its choppy in a few places...phrasing is of in a few places as well. Any feed back is appreciated. If anyone knows how to shrink the file size when exporting from garageband, please let me know. Thanks.

when using garageband go to file, then export to iTunes. Then in iTunes, click advanced, then click convert selection (highlighted song) to whatever it has there. I forget how i set mine to MP3. Check out apple.com to try and figure out how to make it so it can convert to MP3. AIFF is an incredibly large format because it is very sensitive and picks up all the sounds you record in garageband.

The only option it gives me is to convert it to a WAV file, which is the same size as the .aiff. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help.

damn, mine used to be WAV i completely forget how to change it so you can convert to MP3. I'll find out and post as soon as I can. I am supposed to be doing homework right now.

alright i got it, go to iTunes, Preferences, the advanced then click Importing which is near General towards the top click Import Using: and then click MP3 encoder.

then when you go to advanced it should say "Convert selection to MP3"

You did a decent job with it, you did take some liberties to try and make it your own some of them I liked and others I didn't:

1) The acoustic guitar echo doesn't quite work well for me with this song.
2) The first soloing with the electric tone that begins at 2:15 makes me want to stab kittens. It just feels out of place and not really following any form.
3) I didn't like the voice echo at the beginning of the song, but towards the end with the "Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" it sounds awesome.
4) The soloing towards the end (around 3:45) fits the mood of the song with its tone. It wouldn't hurt to be tightened up with better usage of the scales and overall tone, but nonetheless good.

Overall a decent listen, pretty experimental. Tighten it up a bit and let your voice really come through and it could be something that does the original some justice.

im listening right now and im going to have to agree about the delay effect on the guitar. it seems the timing on the echo is a little off. i think the delay on the vocals sounds pretty cool on the end of the chorus and with the screaming at the end. but in the middle of the verse it doesent really work. and as for that first solo, little too much distortion. maybe turn that guitar down a little bit. but the solo at the end sounds good. overall good job.

Just listened. I dunno, that delay makes me want to kill myself and/or others. Some vocal parts were pretty rough too. I agree that the delay at the end worked out well. The solos... eh, I'd leave'em out. It wasn't BAD, but its not something I'd keep in my playlist.

Honestly. Grey Street is not that tough of a song. I don't understand why it is that there is so many sub-par versions of it out there... And they're all so over processed. Where does that even come from?! I JUST DON'T GET IT!

it's probably one of the more boring dave songs to play

How come you never hear people cover Pig or anything? These songs aren't really THAT hard to play. I mean I taught myself guitar in December and I can already play and sing through most of Pig. If I had a professional recording device other than the mic on my iBook I'd try to make a recording.

BTW, this is in no way bashing the original poster, just a thought sparked by chr35919.

I just used Garageband for the first time, thats a pretty sweet program. I still like Soundtrack Pro better though, thats what we use at school for all our radio stuff. I picked up my shitty begginers guitar and just recorded me singing and playing Halloween and it took me for-freakin-ever to realize that I didn't have to sing and play through the whole song, I could loop it. Oh well, too late. I dare not post it though. I'd get a new one ripped right under the old one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I definitely used a lot of effects, some of which were out of place. I will post a new song shortly that is more straigh foreward. Thanks again.

Peace,

Alex
