While most of you probely play the guitar I'm sure there are some people here playing the violin.
I'm playing this instrument for about 7 months now. mainly traditional Irish (perhaps some of you know the corss?) and I love to do it! tho the sound I'm producing isn't great yet hehe :D
so are there more violinplayers here? and what kind of music do you play?
are there good music sheets or tabs of DMB around? (did a quik search but couldn't find ANYthing)
ah well that's it for now :thumbsup

Good stuff on taking up the violin - its a wonderful instrument, very diverse in its ability to create so many tones and sounds - if you learn how to :p. I myself have been playing it for 8 years now, and I'm usually end playing classical works with the school orchestra (I also happen to be concert master :)) and through private lessons, though its not always the usual school level material though. A couple of works we've done in the orchestra over the last few years include Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin), the first movement of the New World Symphony (Dvorak) and several movements from the "Nutcracker Suite" (Tschaikowsky).
If you're looking for some general music to fiddle around with, try sites like 8notes.com, but for DMB your best bet is probably over at nancies.org

Hope thats what you're looking for.

I've played for 14 years. Good call on taking up the violin. i also usually play more serious/classical works. I like the Russian composers myself. Anyway, if you want to play DMB songs, I picked up a book of his to sort of goof around with and it was alright. Pretty basic. i don't know if I would recommend it to buy, but it was fun for a while. Honestly, just listen to some of boyd's parts in songs and just copy it. that's easier to do. most of the stuff he plays isnt complicated (except for some of his solos). Also, the braveheart soundtrack has some outstanding violin parts so I'd recommend trying to find that somewhere.

If you want, IM me and Ill help you with some of the music. I went to that link and all of it was wrong, or atleast it didnt sound right. the problem with looking at tabs online, its someones idea on how it is written. I like buying the sheet music, or playing by ear, most of the time you can figure it all out. the only song I am having problems with at the moment is Raven,, its tricky cause its mostly double strings and is a pain to figure out two nots at once..lol

A fiddle player would be the biggest challenge should I decide to pursue putting together a tribute band... perhaps I should subscribe to this thread
