I've never played it, and if anyone has any feedback on it i would appreciate it, but acoustic guitar magazine had high praises for the durango B-46. They say it sounds as if it would cost about 1500, but only run for 150-200. Let me know if anyone has played this, I haven't been able to find a local place that carries durango to try it out.

The fender starter pack isn't bad at all. It was my first guitar and it was great. it has a solid top and it sounds good.

Washburn D-10sce
Either this or the D-30 (from musician's friend) is a step up in the $300 price point.

Just for a serious contribution, my first guitar (after using my brother's old one to learn on) my parents bought me was an Ibanez acoustic/electric. I didn't know they were buying but I wouldn't have known which guitar to buy anyway, neither did they. I think they went on advice from the guy at the store. But it's been a great guitar, and since getting it I've only heard they make pretty quality instruments. I know it's no Taylor/Gibson etc, maybe some day :)

def talk to the sales rep at a guitar shop, there probably more knowledgeable or just buy whatever sounds good at a low price
