that was maybe one of the worst things i've ever downloaded from here. and i wouldn't really say it's because you're not good. i just don't get covers (of covers, no less) where people try to ridiculously emulate another version. the attempted growling is atrocious. i mean, what's the point of trying to ape dave matthews to such a level? the fire outro? the carter laugh? the only (and rare) time that something like that works is if you can do it perfectly. this was not even close.
the worst part is, most of it shows that you have a little talent. but between the rough falsetto and the really, really bad growl tone, it's hard to hear the rest. the vocals aren't really that bad in other parts, and it seems like you have a decent ear for pitch, even though it's just you copying dave. the guitar doesn't sound too bad, either. not that this is a tough guitar part or anything, but there aren't any MAJOR rhythm problems, just some minor ones. and the harmonica...is...not bad, but overdone.
i'd be interested to hear something you actually wrote. or another cover that you made your own. anything, really, would be better than this.

It was alright, think you went a little aggro on the effects usage. Harmonica parts would've been better had they not been so slow/simple & some accompanying guitar tracks would've made it sound less sparse, which is what it seems you tried to fix with the excessive effects.

I thought it was pretty good actually, other than a few 'growl' parts like nakedguy mentioned. But the vocals were good for the most part.

The "effects" just confused the shit out of me.

Did you block out that Joyride cover someone posted a few weeks back? Now THAT was the worst cover I ever heard!

Anyone that posts a cover that they did gets respect in my book just for trying. :thumbsup

go to www.myspace.com/kevinhoran and you can listen to my originals. thanks for the feedback everyone. i think i should have spent more time on this recording. i did it pretty quickly maybe an hour tops. i was bored and just felt like giving it a whirl. maybe that explains some of the shittyness. whatever no big deal just a cover. hope you enjoy my myspace stuff!!!

I have no problem doing covers. I write plenty of my own stuff so it's not like playing covers is all I do anyways. Music's about fun. If playing covers is fun for someone then how can that be wrong? (rhetorical question) Some people aren't born with the ability to create music. I feel for those people. If playing covers is all they can do, then so be it. Just my $.02

:thumbsdow Boo.
Kevin, I thought it was solid. Cover what you want, how you want. It isn't like you are putting this on a CD and selling it. Don't let this jerk-off tell you how to play YOUR music. I don't think he realizes that music is for fun. Not everyone is such a big shot like him.

You don't seem to get it. If someone posts something for the purpose of hearing feedback from others, that gives all of us the right to say whatever's on our mind. I've seen plenty of people come up with a half sentence's worth of shit talk that isn't anymore helpful than a box of rocks. But when someone posts , especially a reply decent in length, giving their thoughts/opinions, I have a hard time understanding why people have to take such offense to it. Maybe it sounds harsh, oh well. Waaaay to many people sugar coat everything as if we're all here to stroke each other. Really, I take more offense to the people who pop in only to say "Good Job!" or "I liked it, that was cool man!". WTF is that about? It's cool to hear somebody liked what you've done but that's no more meaningful than simply saying it sucked. So go on, keep bashing the people who actually have something to say & make the effort to say it. :thumbsup

:thumbsup I'm going to side with Royce on this one. Music is fun and fun comes in all shapes, sizes, and sounds.
My apologies, Kev, for not providing you with decent feedback because that's what you're looking for (not, like Dan previously stated, lame ass comments). I'm not going to lie - I thought it was bitchin. I totally dig your sound, and the number one problem I see (rather, hear) with people covering DMB songs is their voice. I thought your voice was right on point. I only listened to it once last night when I had already imbibed a bottle of wine, so my details are a bit hazy, but I also really dug your harmonica.

i wanted to quote some people but then I wanted to quote 20 of you fuckers to comment on it all haha. I think the song is ok. I think playing covers is cool but IMO recording them is wasting creativity and time. Especially in this case as NakedDMBguy pointed out, it is a cover of a cover of a cover. What makes watchtower good by DMB is that it is different and not like the 4000 blues jams that have happened using that song as a platform. BUT! I dont think this is the end of the world. I thought a couple harmonica parts were pretty cool, and w/o the growling on the vocals, your voice is quite more than bareable. All in all I will say good job, but I would rather try a meal that you came up with and fucked up than try a recipe you stole from Applebees.

:thumbsup That is all I was trying to get across. Critiquing is one thing, but telling people how to enjoy music is another. And going by nakedguydmb's previous comments and other threads, I don't think I am that far off. And if I like a cover, I like it. I am not going to try and offer some false opinion just for the sake of it.
It wasn't the best thing in the world, but for what he was going for, I definately enjoyed it.
