what does indie exactly mean? i think its like bands with independent labels but im not 100% positive...last night one of my friends and i saw these guys in a local concert and hes like ''these guys are exactly indie, they sound so indie''...i wanted to shut him down and say ''indie actually means 'independent' bands" but i didnt want to look like a fool.
thanks

I think that while indie at first described the label, nowadays it really does describe a sound. Indie folk almost all sounds the same, indie rock almost all sounds the same. etc etc. I dont think it is a testament to anythign else other than the sad state of music.

music isnt in a complete sad state. you have to understand that good music was popular in certain decades. good music is still around today, its just its not mainstream and people dont know about it. music never dies

I sort of agree. I dont think good music is dictated by a certain time frame. I think good music is dictated by the diversity in which it stands. When everything sounds the same, it is a sade state. I dont care if Coheed and Cambria is the best band ever (certainly not) but if 1000 bands sound the same, how could they be?

Hmmm, favorite is tough. DMB used to be certainly my favorite. I like Ray Lamontagne, phish, Brett Dennen, Langehorne Slim, traffic, umm Paul Simon alot. Should I keep going or is this enough to make a point. I like some "indie" stuff. I like Iron and Wine, Son Volt, Langehorne slim is certainly independent,
