And I want to pick up an instrument... toss me some suggestions. What can I get for this amount of cash? I am open to pretty much everything.

Keep in mind I have no prior musical experience except for drumming for 1-2 year about 6 years ago.

$240. Go.

Buy a good keyboard, preferably with hammer-action keys.

If you are into percussion, get a djembe that will last you forever.

Or you could get a shitty guitar/bass/keyboard/etc. that will need to be replaced in about two years.

EDIT:You could also get a few harmonicas.

my thoughts exactly.

even though prices range significantly from place to place, i have never heard of an onion and a half for $240.

i dunno if mentioning alvarez up there was a joke, but i got an alvarez that was originally 410 retail for about 250 from what i believe...RD8C model- worked great for starting out, and sounded great, too, until i moved on to taylor guitars and therefore way out of the $240 price range

rd20s, had my own electronics put in though, run it through an offboard fishman preamp. guitar was $200 with a hardshell. i didnt like the way the rd20sc sounded plugged in
