in my speech, i passed around a picture of cara at first to see if they could *tell* she was gay because the guy made some asinine remark about how he basically had gaydar. so, i put that theory to rest with the picture - i felt like Dr. King or Malcolm X preaching up there. haha

I did my honours undergrad thesis on sexual orientation and stereotypes. I set up a questionnaire with masculine/feminine/neutral attritbutes (like aggressive, friendly...etc) and gave subjecta a picture to look at. They then were giving the questionnaire with these attributes and a brief description about the person such as age, sex, sexual orientation, job. Some people were told that the person was gay/lesbian..some were told that the same person was straight. Then they were to circle attributes they would relate to the person. I wanted to see if people put more masculine adjectives to the person if they were lesbian...and more feminine attributes to the person if they were gay (male). To prove that people base these stereotypes based solely on orientation not what they look like. Plus, I did some other testing with outside factors like if the subject was gay themselves or not, what attributes they associated with themselves..and then finally a questionnaire based on their feelings towards homosexuality.

I really enjoyed my whole thesis...it was interesting and I learned alot.

Ok, the clutzy incident:

Saturday night, I invited my sister, Melissa, over for dinner at the 312. Chicken catchatori subs and spanish rice. Laura was gone and Cara was on the computer. I'm in the middle of making spanish rice and I'm stirring away. I completely lose control of the spoon and rice goes EVERYWHERE. I get burned on my forehead, twice on my right arm, once on the inside of my left calf, and once on my left forearm, and on one of my fingers.

Not published, but I got a really great mark. I do have a copy back home, I'll get my mom to send it, I have been thinking about it for awhile and wanted to read it again. I did write a Masters paper that my professor wanted me to get published...I want to edit it though and make come changes

The paper, sorry I didnt elaborate, was about growing up and not wanting to fit into gender stereotypes..I was a total tomboy but was forced into that girly role cause thats was the right thing to do. So when I decided I didnt want that anymore, I completely went from girlie to 'dyke' (I use that term very loosely...and dont want to offend anyone) then to what I am now...which is my opinion is no style, just comfy and what I want to wear..not what I believe society instills in me..whether im with a girl or a guy.

I am 2 credits away from my Masters degree (and my thesis) but withdrew because I found out some shitty stuff about the program I was in...one example, not being an accredited MA program but not telling their students this. I went right from high school to my undergrad so 18-22..then did 1.5 years of my MA. So technically, if I would have finished on time...I would have my MA right now. I did almost 6 straight years of post-secondary education...I was burnt out and really needed a break.

Wow..exactly! I came out to everyone and felt the need to scream "I am Heather the Hardcore Lesbian!" Wore the rainbows, fit the part perfectly. But then I grew out of it...and not because I realized that I was queer (opposed to being completely lesbian), but because there was no reason for everyone to know my sexuality. Why do I need to scream it from the rooftop? Why cant I be Heather. And who I have dated or who I am dating should dictate who I am. I have said it before, but I have lost alot of my friends when I came out as a lesbian...and then I lost alot of my gay friends because I started dating a guy (plus growing out my hair..which I dont understand how me having longer hair shows how much of a queer I am or am not), they didnt care that I was happy..they just cared that I wasnt Heather the Hardcore Lesbian anymore. Im glad that I have met people now who understand where Im coming from...and not that everyone is the same...but I feel you can fall for a person no matter what is between their legs. Some people only like one thing some people only like the other...and I dont care, as long as I am happy with who Im with. But I guess we need labels nowadays, everyone needs to be put in a category and we cant just be who we are as people:rolleyes

Then we had to do exams because 3rd and 4th year students had to...but MA students are supposed to..just to written work. It was just a mess and I was tired of schooling. I want to go back, but not now and I dont want to 'settle' into a program. I want to do something I really want.

#1 - no one ever said they did have anything to do with the other...i said it reminded me.

#2 - when looking at your recent posts around the board there are two things that are obvious....approx half of your posts are talking about how much you do for the boards compared to everyone else, 25% are trying to defend yourself for people responding to your disregard for a public forum. and the other 25% are from your "followers" or whatever you have decided to call them....

personal observation - approx 75% of the time you are arguing with someone who called you out about your attitude or talking about how great you are....enjoy the 25% of your life and stop focusing on the negative :D

but seeing as how you keep coming back here because you feel it is important to constantly read what others think about you i will again reiterate that .....
