hey steve! laura and i were going to book our flights & hotel last night (we were gonna call you first), but we got lazy. i was finding packages the other night for like $350 per person. we'd love to book our group together, but who's going to want to put such a huge purchase on a credit card? i figured, we could call you when we're ready to buy our tickets and you can go online and try to get the same flight. as for the hotel, you can just give us money if you want to stay with us! i don't know if you were trying to stay somewhere super fancy, but we're just looking for a cheap place with a convenient location. so far, we're looking at either the stratosphere or the sahara. they look a little far from the MGM grand, but hello, it's not like it will be a boring walk.

in that link i posted, if you click on the hotel name you get a nice summary about it. looks like both the sahara and stratosphere have poker rooms :), and since they're not the well-known casinos, maybe it won't be as intimidating?

cara you do realize that to walk from the stratosphere you are looking at about 4 miles? and the walk from the sahara is like 3.3 miles?
i know they would be interesting but two things come to mind...
1. a 4 mile walk takes about 1 hour and that is way too far for me...those blocks are huge!!
2. i wouldnt want to be walking around up by the stratosphere late at night because there really isnt much around...
if you do decide to stay up there i would suggest a cab...
just some friendly advice...

thank you :) yes i mapquested it, and i know it's pretty far..but aren't there free shuttles? you're right though, it would be annoying if everyone else was staying 4 miles away from us! the golden nugget is the casino where they shot a "reality show". It was these 2 guys who were internet developers who got rich. They bought the Golden Nugget and were trying to bring it back to old school style casino lounges. A singer from Canada was doing lounge acts there on the show and got kinda big afterwards in Canada. (Matt Dusk).
ANYWAYS, it may look like a piece in pictures, but that may be the style of it :shrug

Guys... what about the Tropicana? It's across the street and it's not really that expensive at $953 CAD per person (flight and hotel from the 22nd to the 26th)
and it's $653 per person if we were to book 2 rooms with 2 ppl in each!!
Just an idea... it's a 3 star hotel... thoughts?

you can stay there, but the deals we were coming across were $300 less per person. we are used to staying in hotels, with like 0.0003 stars, so i think we can settle for the golden nugget if it will save us $900. i just need a place to pass out when the time comes, how much time am i going to spend in the hotel? i will talk to the girls, but i think they are on the same page with me... sorry, we po'.. thats way too expensive per person. Thats why sites like expedia can rip you off...it seems cheaper, but if you split them up yourself its considerably less money.
Flights are around $200 roundtrip, from BUF to LAS.
You can get a room for 4 nights at the Circus Circus which is very close to the MGM for around $400 total (4 people per room =$100/person for 4 nights) So you are only really spending $300-$400 per person if you book it seperately.

John was trying to explain it to me...there are no hidden fees or anything however they tell you "if you do it this way, you'll save $200" where if you book it seperately on your own it ends up being cheaper. I dont know, john explained it well. Plus, with those sites, you cant make any changes cause you already paid. I had to change my CO flight to accomodate for night 4, and it ended charging me like $150 more when if I would have went with the airline, it would have been like $30 or something.
Paying for something upfront is the main deal with me, I dont have the money to do it now...I would rather put everyone's money together at the end of the stay and settle the bill that way with cash.

delta airlines is the cheapest...about $192 return. Or you can try and book the flight separately. Go with one airline to go to LAS and go with another for the flight back to BUF. There are some obscure airlines out there that are super cheap, you just have to do some searching.
it's sooo much more convienient when you know where you're stayin before you get there
:confused Im not sure what you mean.....
i wouldnt go to Vegas not having a hotel...but not booking through those sites doesnt mean you dont have a hotel. Just search area hotels and reserve a room on your credit card..no money upfront and the room is guarenteed to you.

As of right now, yes, my best friend Dave is coming with me. But, on the off chance that he can't make it, then we can book a room for the 4 of us if that works out better $$$ wise... Where are you looking for flights Heather?
I agree Heather... in my experience when traveling somewhere like LV where it's a big destination, you are usually better NOT doing the expedia thing... in fact, i usually find the best deals going to each airlines website and browsing their current specials... i know US airways just had a big deal to LV for like $150 round trip from by me... sometimes you can like join their e-group and get other special e-savings... also check the cheapy line like southeast, southwest, midwest, etc.... maybe the foods not as good, but they all pass the same FAA guidelines, so your safe ;-) some of these do package deals as well, not sure if they are good or bad or not
OR you might even find better deals doing the opposite... going to websites for each hotel and see if they are running specials, and if they are doing their own package deals.
fleffer
01-09-2007, 02:17 PM
also... i don't know if Buffalo is a HUB airport for any airline in particular... but if it is your best prices will be at that airline. same thing if LV is a HUB for anyone (doubt that though)

Morning everyone!
Ok.. so the first travel agency I went to basically said that they suck! We have all been seeing cheaper flights and hotels online... So i'm thinking that we should likely just book online...
They did suggest staying on the strip, that means no golden nugget as it's downtown and well over a 2 hour walk and over an hour bus ride to the grand.... they said that the stratosphere was a piece of shit place and that it was still an hour on the bus to the grand...
That's about all they had to say... so i guess it's up to us to book everything!

Hey Cara,
I am still working with the agency to see if they'll find us a better deal than what's online. I have someone on the inside now... hehe... I just emailed her so I'll wait to hear from her today and let you all know what she says!
I basically told her that we want the cheapest trip possible with staying on the strip and relatively close to the grand... gotta wait and see now!

thanks amy! these are our seat locations...
night one: one WH pair, sec 216 row E
night two: one WH pair, sec U6 row X; plus one TM single, sec L15 row E
so we still need a single for night one, if you want to sell it to us! but mark, if it would be easier for you to sell your night one tickets as a pair, feel free to do so, and we can pick up a single from ticketmaster. if you'd rather put it up on the boards a single, we'll take the other one from you as planned. what are your seat locations for night one and two (for you and amy, and your extras)?
i wonder how many seats are at the MGM..

don't book anything just yet. you should figure out the situation with your friend first! plus, with you coming to visit saturday, it might be better to do some planning then, in person. i don't think we want to pay for our trip in canadian funds because we will have to pay conversion fees on our credit card. plus, does this package mean we'd have to fly out of canada? i don't know if you knew this, but the buffalo airport is literally around the corner from our new house! the airport is on genesee st, and we can see genesee st from our porch :lol so i think we would like to fly from there.

I've searched all options... and i've found us a kick ass deal if my bud can't come. i will talk to him tonight and we can plan in person this weekend when i come over! But as it stands right now, i can book the 4 of us at the Tropicana for $435 per person CAD. As for the currency exchange, no worries, we'll work it out.. i could make it possible to pay for the entire trip on my credit card and you 3 can just pay me in USD when we get to vegas or something... either way... it's all good!:D :multi :bounce

Cara, do any of you girls have to be somewhere on the 27th of March? We can save ourselves about 100 each if we take the "red eye" flight back from Vegas... but that means that we'll fly out of Vegas on the night of the 26th and get to Buffalo on the morning of the 27th...
The prices i've been telling you about are the red eye flights... so if we need to be back on the 26th, it will likely bump our flight cost up by about 100 canadian..:thumbsdow

we were going to call you guys to see if you wanted to stop over but it got so late we figured you'd already be at the show... i am glad to hear you had a good time! did you get your tickets through ticketmaster? i was trying to find tickets on friday but i think there was only one left :thumbsdow
WOW yeah we got ours on ticketmaster about a week before the show...we had bleacher seats in the upper level...it was packed but there was lots of room on the floor. I met a guy in the bathroom selling floor braclets for $5 a piece...I talked him down to $5 for 2 (actually threatened getting security) so me and Julie got down on the floor...and then we GOT DOWN ON THE FLOOR

We danced towards the back of the floor...we had 10 feet in all directions to dance...and dance we did...Mellissa was there with Marissa and they saw us from their seats

i don't care how often it happens or how many people have done it... but i totally would not be at all dissappointed if i was proposed to at a concert (although i think i would prefer it to be dmb if it was aaron doing the proposing, not that that's coming anytime soon i hope, just because that's kind of how we started dating so it's more fitting). i think it's just that euphoria greatest moment of my life feeling you get at a good show... i dunno
