Holy Shit! Anyone see Simon's stick to the face/neck of Holik tonight? Major fine and suspension coming. Have to see it again, but it looked as bad or worse than the McSorely/Brashear hit.

and it was ryan hollweg, no holik.

Yeah man, that sucks.

BTW Marty is just sick. I hate playing you guys. It was a hell of a show down though.

Congrats on pretty much claiming the division.

The one thing Ill take is playing a great defensive devils team to a one goal game. Shows we can compete in the playoffs.

That Simon hit (if you can call it a hit) was disgusting. He should absolutely be suspended the rest of the season and playoffs. That was the dirtiest hit since the Bertuzzi incident in my opinion. There's no room for that in hockey, none.

DancingKitty
03-09-2007, 05:35 AM
During the game I was reading an article (either on ESPN or NHL) about the Bertuzzi hit. "Has the NHL changed?" Then in the third period that happenes. 3 years to the day. Guess not. I hope he gets s suspension and a fine. Rangers Isles is a great game, its the only time the Isles sell out and none of the fans deserved to see that.

That said, Let's Go Rangers!! Keep Pushing!

You mean they didnt suspend him? The NHL has to start cracking down on these. They should have some type of rule similar in a sense, that the NFL does. You cant lead with your head during a tackle. The NHL needs a rule similar to that one, to control some of these hits. But this was uncalled for. He should be charged with attempted murder for that hit.:lol

I agree....Pro-Sports needs to come down hard on players that do this kind of shit. Bottom line is Simon has had a a history of being a tool and should be banned from the NHL for life....and if he is not I would not like to think what will happen to him the next time he plays at the Garden. And all those islander fans look so dumb for cheering about that. I'm with you on that one.

Our lineup is just devastated by injury... I mean, look at our defence! I never thought I would say that Greene and Smid would be amongst our top three D-men. Its pretty ridiculous. We needed a complete and healthy lineup 20 games ago... and only then did we ever have a chance to make the playoffs. Oh, and we didn't need to trade away Bergy and Smytty for ZERO NHL-ready players. Not to mention Van going on a total tear since Christmas, we couldn't ever keep up with them, Calg, and Minny. I could really go on and on, but I'll stop there.

Which reminds of Bertuzzi (sp?). He should still be suspended. He shouldn'd be allowed back on the ice until Moore can play again.i'm not sure exactly what SHOULD happen... but I know there are people close to the game who have had meetings with bettmen and have written letters of concern and inquiry as to the league cracking down on such offenders. I'm not sure what they expect to happen beyond suspensions (jail time, being barred from the league, etc). I like the fact that the NHL is starting to get gritty with the playoffs coming up... but to take runs at people like that is ridiculous.

this is a LITTLE better...
Chris Simon has received one of the longest suspensions in NHL history for his vicious attack on the Rangers' Ryan Hollweg.
The Islander enforcer will sit out a minimum of 25 games. Simon will miss the rest of the regular season and all of the playoffs should the Isles qualify. If the Islanders don't make the playoffs or play less than 10 games in the post season, then Simon will sit out the additional games next season.

I don't know if I told you the story or not, but when I went to the Eric Desjardins Night back in January, I sat in the club box next to Paul Hologrem, who is the Flyers General Manager. I wrote him a letter saying we needed to sign John LeClair because he deserves to retire in a Flyers' uniform, and it would be nice, etc.

I think my letter worked.

I disagree, the extent of the injury should not have a major impact on the length of a suspencion. It should have much more to to with the intent of the act.

completely agree, They're saying he's gonna receive the stiffest penalty in NHL history for this hit. I can name atleast 5-10 hits that have been a million times worse than this and caused much more damage. I still dont understand why some people are saying he "swung his stick" when in actuality its obvious that he raised his arms in a cross-checking motion. Swinging your stick is what McSorley did, not Simon. I think it comes down to the NHL wanting to make a statement personally. Dirty shit like this has been on the rise in the league lately and it really needs to stop for the players and the games sake. It would have been nice to see Simon challenge the other guy (can't think of his name) to a fight instead of doing what he did. In fact it would be nice to see more fighting in general as opposed to this.

No, Hollweg wasn't very hurt... but if we follow that logic, any guy can swing a stick at someone's head and as long as he doesn't hurt him TOO bad, he gets away with it. The ends don't justify the means. I think the fact they extended the 7 playoff games to the entire playoffs is what he deserves. Don't let him play until next year.

To discourage people from doing it. Theres no place in hockey for that kind of shit. Even as a kid playing hockey everyone knew better than to hit someone across the face with a stick, and that was with cages on the helmets.

i just think that it wasn't as bad as people are saying... sure, supsend him... but i dont think that it deserves thati think the fact that it is on par with those previous hits AND comes at a time where it seems like dirty hits are picking up (Janssens on Kaberle, Emery slash, etc...) the league needs to start giving EVERYONE that commits those types of infractions the same deal. it's pretty painful to see. I don't fully understand this "plan" of having a team full of young players to develop to make a decent team. I am a Rangers fan, so I love your picks. However, I think they are wrong. Here are my Final NHL Pre-Season Playoff picks!

West:
1. SAN JOSE
2. DETROIT
3. VANCOUVER
4. NASHVILLE
5. CALGARY
6. ANAHEIM
7. DALLAS
8. EDMONTON

15-Chicago(I don't see any hope for this team).

East:
1. BUFFALO
2. NEW JERSEY
3. CAROLINA
4. OTTAWA
5. NY RANGERS
6. TORONTO
7. PHILADELPHIA
8. BOSTON

15-Montreal(I see them having a hard season this year).

Stanley Cup-

West-SAN JOSE-3
------NJ DEVILS STANLEY CUP CHAMPS-------
East-NEW JERSEY-4

I think this because the Devils have a stong run every few years, and with Rupp back and everyone heathy, and the fact that when he is on no one can beat Marty B, the Devils are going to be the team to watch for this year. I hope I am wrong and it is the Rangers, but I don't see the Rangers getting out of the first round again.

i am not so far off....haha

Hey Crash, just wanted to take this time out to personally thank you and your Flyer's for sending Calder our way. In 8 games he has had at least a point in 7 of them and ignited Lang and our second line which I seriously can't believe because I thought Lang was done for and I seriously wanted us to get rid of him all year. Shows what you can accomplish when you put the right guys together.

Anyway, to the rest of the league, I wish you luck because the wings are beggining to fire on all cylinders and this is without Zetterberg, Cleary, and Bertuzzi in our lineup. Once these guys return this comming week, I shutter to think about how powerful our team will be. Good luck taking us out in the first round this year.

haha hell yea, the 97 flyers def. weren't half bad either. I remember the legion of doom or legion of broom as we called them after we swept that series :) no one was keeping us from the cup that year after all we had been through finally getting over the hump and beating Colorado.

the 97 wings though. Ive said it before, of our 3 recent cup winning squads, I think the 97 team was by far the best. you can say what you want about the 02 team, yes, they were skilled, but the 97 team just kicked your ass night in and night out. konstantinov god bless him, lapointe in his prime, shanny, Joey Kocur who was playing in a beer league before we picked him up to be an enforcer in the middle of the season, McCarty, and of course yzerman in his prime, these guys were fucking gods on the ice in my opinion.

Still though the 02 team is really special to me because that was the year i graduated high school and I have a lot of fond memories of watching the games with a lot of my good friends while partying at grad parties. Not to mention i have the memory of watching them clinch it on a big screen setup outside hockeytown cafe downtown while I was drinking underage with the detroit Police in a parking lot. good shit, i hope the flyers can bring you guys some glory some day.

They kept getting back into the game, but the pens held them off. Crosby's goal was just sick. Absolutely sick. I was in disbelief. I had second row seats right on the side he did it on. I must say the Canadians travel well. Montreal is a long hull from Pittsburgh, but there were enough of them to make themselves heard.

It would have be abosolutely hear-breaking if the Pens would have left.

lol nice, kind of my night last week. During first intermission they shoot shirts up into the stands. I was with my dad and were paying no attention when they came on. However, I looked for a quick second and saw one coming near me. I mean it was like a direct path to me. I just sat there in anticipation, and waited for it to come to me, which it did. Yeah, our goalie has really affected us. We have won games when we have had to score a bunch of goals. So they had off nights, but do you even consider the fact that Fluery was untouchable during our 17 game streak. Thibault and Fluery are back on top of their game. Most of our problems were defensive and we are tightening up back there. Im really sick of everyone saying how young this team is. Get off that wagon, these guys can play with anyone. Doug Weight, Rod Brind A'mour, Cory Stillman, (who won a cup with Tampa the year before), Glen Wesley, Mark Recchi, Bret Hedican, etc.

Whatever. We have leaders. Im not doubting them because of lack of experience. If you are basing winning the cup on purely expereice you are mistaking. Talent wins hockey games, team played hockey wins hockey games. You as a Devils fan should know this. When you have a team who can play 60 minute hockey, you get experience on the fly. The pens will do exactly this. Im not saying they will win the cup, but they will not be a pushover in the first round either.

You're just bitter.

You're terrible at playing the know-it-all kid, do you know that? You think I'm bitter because my team is in last place? No, not at all. Actually, I'm glad we're having a terrible year because that means one thing, changes. The Flyers in 2004 were a dynamite team. I mean I think one of the best in the franchise, not to mention in the NHL, but hey, that's just my opinion. However, because of the lockout, the team got fucked up, LeClair, Amonte, Recchi, they were old, and we couldn't handle their contracts. So, we went with young guys, not a bad start, injuries piled up and then we just get blown out by the Sabres. Same thing happens this year, but at least we made changes for the better.

Dont worry pal, you enjoy this ride for sure, no matter how long it is because next year the Flyers will be back into contention, you just watch.

Another thing. I'm glad you saved yourself the embarassment by not replying to my experience point. You're a smart man for doing that.

:confused:confused I didn't say the Pens were losing players. I said that was the cause of the Flyers being terrible since the playoffs. We're in a youth movement, the city and the team has understood this and accept it. We'll see you next year late in the season.

I don't have Lindros. I'm a Shark.

As for the Philly-Sharks-Lindros conjunction, I am still bitter over that draft because for some absolutely ludicrously conspiratorial reason, the Nordiques were given the first pick in the draft, and the Sharks second (for their inaugural draft). The league did not want an expansion team to get a player of his skills, so they gave Quebec the top pick. We got Pat Freaking Falloon. All other expansion teams of the modern era got the top pick. (If there were two expansion teams in the same year, they got the top two picks.)

The Nordiques traded Lindros for the entire base of their team, which became the Avs and won two Stanley Cups. The Sharks...haven't won as many Cups.

Sidney is so YUMMY! The game yesterday was just so great to see live because it was a game well played....and played hard. I got to see a hat trick that happened within like 8 minutes...I got to see a GREAT fight and 1/2.....AND 7 goals scored.....GREAT game! THEN I got to go shopping at Tyson's corner in DC after that.......that's ALWAYS a plus!

that's what I was thinking... As a goalie, i would have had my glove behind me to make sure it doesn't roll through the 5 hole... then when you see it isn't in the net and you're sitting on the line, make sure you drag your body out of the net as you're getting up... real casual like... then your momentum should just take the puck forward with you... no evidence it was over the line...

Yeah the East playoff race at the bottom is incredibly intense. It has been pretty insane all year. For a few weeks being in 4 and 5th place were nerve racking. We were only ahead of the 8th place by 6 or so points. Usually sitting there is sitting pretty.

i hate having the pens up our ass--why can't they go on 5,6 game losing streak and we win a few to seperate this margin again..watching the devils lose games that now matter more than they did when we were 11 up is nerve-racking

Don't worry, they'll flop in the playoffs, which I rather see than them taking you guys out of first place.

i also think the Smyth trade from Edmonton may be the start of the "Oilers Curse"
We are pretty much emotionally, physically, and mentally destroyed. Losing Moreau was a huge slash to our team to begin with... it all went downhill from there, ESPECIALLY after Christmas. Its not only the Smytty trade, but a culmination of everything. All these damn injuries and trades add up to a beat up and emotionally distraught hockey team.

Oh well, there is always next year. :freak

Haha. I wouldnt worry too much. You guys have a great team. I hate playing the devils. With Marty, I wouldnt worry so much. The devils tend to do better the lower they are ranked in the playoffs anyways.

the Pens deserve to be an 8th seed...

i refuse to respect a team thats built upon two or three players... like Pit and Anaheim

but i love to watch deep and well-constructed teams like San Jose, Nashville and Buffalo

Why do we deserve to be an 8th seed? The pens are much deeper than you think. Our 3 and 4th lines have been producing all year. Contrary to everyone's beliefs we have two solid goalies. Yeah they both had a slump, but that happens. The only thing killing us right now is defensively. Its going to hurt us in the long run. We needed a veteran back there. But we didnt trade for one. When Melichar is on the ice during important situations, goals get let in. I just hope its not in game 7 of a playoff series.

Here are some of your non first liner stats

Ruutu: 16 pts
Talbot: 21 pts
Petrovicky: 6 pts
Armstrong: 30 pts
Scuderi: 11 pts
Nasreddine: 5 points
Orpik: 4 pts

the only people i see keeping the FRANCHISE afloat is Crosby, Malkin, and Recchi

all of your 15-25 point players aren't going to cut it in the playoffs

No offense....but most people could not name more than Cheecho, Thornton or Marleau on the Sharks. So the Sharks are kind of the same way. You have 2-3 key players that everyone knows and that keeps the team going. So it is pretty dumb of you to say that about the Penguins. Oh and also, you talk a lot of shit for some one who roots for a team that is amazing at falling short in the playoffs...and has never won a CUP.

....That being said, I still pick the Sharks to win the West, but untill they do, you really don't have any reason to brag or talk down about other teams.

If "most people" can only name three Sharks, it's only because East Coast people are generally ignorant of West Coast hockey. The Sharks, though they certainly have their flaws, are a deep and well-constructed team. Just because you don't know who Milan Michalek or Joe Pavelski or Marc-Edouard Vlasic is doesn't mean the Sharks are a one-line team. Find me a team that's deeper down the middle.

funny how you pick guys that are either scratches every night (petrovicky, naserddine) or guys who are not offensive players (scuderi, orpik)

i could do the exact same thing with the sharks.

My favorites are the Rangers and the Leafs TV announcers. Phoenix can be fun to listen to as well...
