They are first seeds now and I'm pretty sure they were first seeds at the all star break.

I didn't doubt their abilities.
But I do think other teams are just as capable (and everyone needs a little good fortune)... it really doesn't take much to get there but team work and decent goaltending.
I'm saying that calling Buffalo/Nashville in the cup finals is safe. On paper, of course, they lead both conferences... its just boring, thats all.

And you might ask me, well, what could happen?
And I'll say, ANYTHING... nearly anything but that.yeah... as much as i'm pulling for the Leafs to just get in, i wouldn't expect them to go any deeper than round 1. it's very possible that anything can happen with the way some teams are playing and some are slumping... but buffalo and nashville have proved very consistent all year... that being my reasoning... and that also probably being a good reason why they ARE on top of their respective divisions

Yeah, time will tell.
Its a tight race thats for sure.certainly is... and all the teams in the race have fairly similar schedules left as far as the level of difficulty teams they're playing... right now I say Montreal and toronto have the best chance simply cause they're ahead of the rest... the one thing against Montreal right now is that they have 1 less game to play which is just 2 more point Toronto can make up.

Can Lou coach though? With Marty in the net you shouldnt have two many problems. Just need to pick it up defensivly. With a good defense and Brodeur, the Devils are virtually unbeatable.
Either you or Ott. will help the pens out if the game ends in regulation. We are going to have a tough one against Buffalo.

temper temper... if you're talking about the actual team, i can see where you're coming from. But it's only a few players... unfortunately it's some of our bigger names... McCabe specifically. I used to hate Tucker for that very reason... but this year he has been 100% better from what I've seen. He's doing his job offensively... I don't see him diving and embellishing every play... I don't see him crying to teh refs every time he gets rubbed out. I really like his play this year.
If you're talking about the fans... well I'm not from the area, so I can't say for sure. I've been a Leafs fan for 13 years now, but I think everyone in this thread will agree that I do a pretty good job at looking at each team objectively with as little bias as possible and giving credit where credit is due.

After ever game though the Leafs cry to the Leafs Meida. Coaches and players alike. It is so annoying.
Of course I hate the leafs with a passion so I am far from objective. haha. The excessive media coverage, the whining, the annoying fans all add up to me hating on the leafs more than every other sports franchise combined :)

Not necessarily. Brodeur´s got 12 shut-outs, Lecavalier has scored like a motherfucker, and ofcourse a defender, say Chris Pronger, could take it.

Not necessarily. Brodeur´s got 12 shut-outs, Lecavalier has scored like a motherfucker, and ofcourse a defender, say Chris Pronger, could take it.true, and I love all of those choices over Crosby... but he's scored more than lecavailer, been more of a single standout over Pronger. Brodeur is right up there... although the one difference I see is that those deciding this award may see Crosby as being the reason the Pens went from worse team last year to the top of the divison this year. The Devils have been consistently good over the years, so Brodeurs single handed role on teh team may get overshaddowed...

Selanne on being penalized for using a stick with too much curvature...
"The ice is so bad in the NHL, you have to have that because the puck is bouncing all over," said Selanne, who spent a season in San Jose before returning to Anaheim as a free agent two seasons ago. "I'll bet there's a lot of guys that do, but you have to respect the rule. I wasn't very happy about what happened. Obviously, I didn't expect that call. The only one i can see tweaking are the parameters with regard to players' equipment... that has to change as teh technology advances.

So I just went online to possibly pick up a couple tickets to a Wings first or second round playoff game at the joe since they went onsale yesterday. I come to find out that they want $63 dollars for the first round for STANDING ROOM and 68 for the worst seat in the house and they want $72 for standing room to the second round and $78 for the worst seat in the house. Unreal and downright pathetic if you ask me. Who can honestly afford this to go to one hockey game? These have got to be the worst prices in the league. I mean I understand since it is the wings and they consistantly put one of the best teams in hockey on the ice but still.
On another note, a win tonight against Chicago wins us the Western Conference :multi :multi :multi

LISTEN TO THIS QUOTE!!!
Whether it was classy or not, it was Ron Wilson's decision. He's not my favorite coach anymore."

HE SHOULDN'T! But he took upon himself to cheat to get an upper hand on the other players...
He's a fucking cheater. He's not saying "yeah, it was an accident and its too bad it cost us the powerplay in overtime..."

It doesn't really give the rows and all that and it would be alot of work to look it up. You get the picture though. Maybe its not that bad compared to other places, I just havn't bought or priced wings playoff tickets in a while. Still, I can remember last october when the tigers made the playoffs for the first time in a while. You could get a bleacher ticket to the first round for 30 bucks. Because he´s a badass and he knows that a player like him should be able to play in good fucking conditions. Why the fuck should he play with a stick that can´t hold a puck? Fuck that! He´s trying to play like pro! Fuck those pussies that don´t know shit about hockey! Fuck them! I doubt that he would mind if everybody was playing with a descent stick. ok, i don't agree with the way Rob was handling his disagreement with the situation, but you're blatently putting one player above the others. Why should he be able to alter his equipment to give him an advantage over other players that you claim he naturally already has an advantage over? that's like saying Brodeur is obviously the best goalie in the league, let's let him use pads twice as large cause he's good.

You're upset that his stick was curved past the league regulations?
There once was a time in the NHL that every player had an illegal stick and it was cheap for the coach to request a stick measurement. While it might be the new NHL and they have recently allowed more curve on the stick, it's still a cheap move for a coach to ask for a measurement when chances are 1/3 of his team also has an illegal stick.

a lot of teams were rooting for the habs to make it, since believe it or not, they are probably the best match-up against the sabres and could pull off the surprise victory.
i can't say im pissed about anything though.
disappointed to not be in the playoffs -- but i had a blast the past couple weeks watching the eastern race, and it's the perfect situation to justify strong shakeup in the locker room (bye bye kovalev).

My disappointmnet is eased with the Leafs not making it either. But I agree that a shakeup is needed. Kovalev has to go. Sampsonov has to go (if anyone will take him). I would make a strong run for Briere if I were Gainey. Habs haven't had a true top player for a while and it is badly needed.

Buffalo will retain Briere, however, theres a rumor that the rangers may give him a blank check

There is nothing on that page. Though I would be interested in seeing whats out there. Thibault is a free agent. He is as good as gone. And the Pens are going to be pushing the cap limit next year. Shero is bound to score a big time defender.
Edit, NM...have to click on the teams.

Exactly. The team as it is now is mostly too old, not well put togeather, and will never win it all.

The talk around here is that, of course, the fans want both Briere and Drury to be kept. Granted, they're both going to be looking at HEFTY salaries. I would rather part with Drury and give Briere a fat contract. Not that Drury doesn't deserve to be paid, but Briere has become the face of this franchise. Also, Vanek is a restricted free agent after this season. He's going to get paid by the Sabres too. After the Sabres win the cup, the team is going to have a lot of contract stuff to sort out.

From what I hear he wants to go to the west coast.

conflicted. he obviously had a great year for us; both from a stats and leadership perspective. but he's and has always been brutal defensively.
there's always rumors about moving him to california because his family is out there. that being said, he loves montreal and is the most outspoken leader of this team. he will wear the 'c' if he's here when koivu leaves. i also think we moved rivet to create cap room to resign him.
so do i want him back?
given how the leafs fucked the market last year by offering mccabe what they did, and d's being able to command 5-6M/yr, i don't think souray is worth that. i'd be happy to resign him at 4. you just can't build a team with depth at every position if you have to overspend for one or two players. and the habs need to focus on goal scorers and power forwards.
cheers.

Jeremy Roenick wants to play again next season.
This is a turn-around from earlier this year when he claimed he was finished with hockey after the season. It has been a tumultuous season for Roenick and Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky. He said he will play for the league minimum in any city next year. Just don't expect that city to be Phoenix as it appears Gretzky will close the chapter on the Roenick era.
cheers.

I would like to be able to disagree with you about how the Leafs handled McCabe, but I can't. They really overpayed for him. how can they give him more money then Kaberle, when Kaberle is one of the better all around defencemen in the league?
If you're talking about the Leafs fucking up the market, don't forget Kubina at $5 mil./yr. IMO, that was a worse deal. Notwithstanding McCabe's defensive liabilities, at least he's marketable in Toronto and can put up points. Kubina, on the other hand, is neither.
I think that the Habs are in a bit of Theodore situation with Souray. Like Theodore, Souray will not be worth as much as he commands, but the Habs will probably have to cough up the dough if they want to keep him. And they probably will. Otherwise, the fans will scream to high hell. As an aside, the Theodore deal really fucked up the goaltending market.
p.s. The Habs have to dump Bonk. Samsonov may have been the scapegoat this season, but Bonk is just a complete disaster. No team will ever win anything with that guy in their lineup.

how wrong you are (for ther first time!) my friend.
if you talked to me before the season began, i would've said that bonk is the biggest mistake in our franchise. two seasons ago, he was a big fucking mess, and my most hated player on the team (safe of ribeiro).
this year, he is my hero.
he has been playing a new role (checking line, pk, etc), and is an absolute stud at it. he singlehandedly probably won 8 games for us this season. no joke. him and johnson together were an amazing duo that they would put out there against other teams top lines, and it worked wonders. not to mention, he had some huge clutch goals.
i never thought i'd say it, but im bonkers for bonk. and i hope to see him in a habs jersey again next season.

Ha. I am always prepared to be wrong. Granted, I definitely didn't see him play as much as you did, but in the few games I did see (i.e. Toronto vs. Montreal games) I didn't even notice him on the ice. But if you're bonkers for Bonk, I'll take that as affirmation that he had a good year. Oh, yeah. Usually, I rely on my cousins for Habs info. All they ever talk about is Souray.

I 'd take him back in Chicago for the league min. just because I think he should finish his career with an Indian head on his chest. And because we suck so bad in Chicago it really doesn't get any worse.

Ken, do you think Souray will be back in the bleu, blanc et rouge?
Sheldon Souray and Andrei Markov both say they hope to remain with the Montreal Canadiens next season.
Both veteran defensemen can become unrestricted free agents on July 1st, and there has been talk of Souray signing elsewhere. "The priority is to give Montreal a real good chance of signing me," Souray said on Monday. He was dominant on the power play this season, while Markov was Montreal's best two-way blueliner. "It's not all about the money," he said. "I like Montreal." Souray will get his shoulder checked out, as he injured it in the regular season finale against Toronto. Stay tuned to see how this all works out.

IMO, Patrick Kane is the best player in the draft. He handles the puck likes its glued to his stick. I'm surprised to see Angelo Esposito ranked as the 11th skater. I think that the draft is pretty deep and the first 15 selections should be good NHLers.
