The best part of this game is that there are no commercials. I'm hoping Ralph or Darryl will tell a dirty joke or something during the live feed broadcast, but nothing yet. Wait, a Dallas cameraman just found a female Ducks fan who, er, is wearing a revealing outfit and is enjoying a Carl's Jr. bag of fries. A "there you go" just came from the broadcast booth.

Buffalo wins 9-1. They play the game the way it is supposed to be played. They attack, forecheck and never quit. With speed on all four lines and game breaking talent on the top three lines, mixed in with a defensive corps that skates and passes extremely well and very good to great goaltending…a team that will be very hard to knock off in a seven game series. If the Sabres stay healthy in the playoffs, I like their chances.

If the Sabres stay healthy in the playoffs, I like their chances. 9-1 goes a long way against a VERY questionable goalie. I'm not going to deny that they COMPLETELY outplayed Philly last nite and just exploded in the 2nd. They took the momentum and shoved it up Philly's ass... but the fact that Esche has been hardly the netminder he once was since late last year will help when you're playing a team that just keeps running at you. I'm sure had the course of that game unfolded against a goalie like Luongo, Brodeur, or Turco... they wouldn't have scored 9 goals.

i think if you're a hockey fan, its all exciting... buffalo is exciting to watch... lots of offensive talent... east coast rivalries are fun to watch... especially the canadian ones... but with the few west coast games i watch (on too late) they tend to get real physical, which is a lot of fun to watch as well...

Well I am a hockey fan, and it isn't ALL exciting. :)
Okay, so they have a lot of offense, but I don't necessarily think that makes a game exciting... A team can win 8-0 and it could be the most boring game ever. I like lots of physical play (minus the million penalties).

I understand where Lindz is coming from... I just think we're in a day and age where you can't say that "that's just how they do it on in the West or East"... The differences, if any, are very subtle. It's not like baseball where one division uses a DH and the other lets the pitcher bat... it's all hockey....

NJ has Elias, Gomez, and Gianta for speed, and they have this little thing called the Trap...which by the end of the year will shut down the speed of anyteam. They have 3 Stanley Cups to prove that trap=better than speed. I know the new NHL makes the trap harder, but the Devils and Flames still find a way to make it work.

Montreal and Carolina are both quality teams....i dont think you can say shouldve's and shouldnt's because the team that deserves to win will win the game. You create lucky bounces, they arn't handed to you.

Montreal is one of the few other teams that has teh potential to keep up with Buffalo's speed and endurance... I've watched the Sabers play and i just dont think they're as dominating as the Sharks.
We have the best powerplay, the most shut outs...
theres no doubt that Buffalo is a scoring machine, but when you're winning despite giving up 4 goals per game... that luck is going to run out...
You're scoring against sub-par goaltenders... Kevin Weeks, Cristobal Huet, Hannu Toivonen, Tim Thomas, Robert Esche... would you consider any of these goaltenders as good as Toskala, Turco, Brodeur, or Fernandez?
i know i wouldnt...

you can break it down that way... i'm not disagreeing with you... san jose has perhaps THE best top line in the league. Their depth isn't too bad either... but i think overall, Buffalo has the potential to just out skate the opposition for 3 periods... when it comes down to it, all that matters is how many points are on the standings list.

Let me fill you in on the Sabres if you havent seen them play. They impose their will on their opponents by wearring their opponents out by forcing the other team to keep up with them (which noone has been able to do for 3 periods yet) and they would roll 4 lines (unlike anyone else in the league) at all times so everyone is fresh come the 3rd period. They play an up-tempo style of play that has the quickest transtion game i have seen in the league. They are a team that takes alot of chances with both their offense AND defense so they are bound to give up some goals (9 out of 4 games they have given up 4 or more goals) but they still have a +23 goal for. As for the goaltending i will give you they didnt play against the top goalies in the league but there is a reason why they are in the NHL....its because they are very good goalies and I dont care who they play against or score one...7-9-5-6 goals scored in consecutive games is impressive no matter who you are playing against because again....every team is a good hockey team (well okay besides the Phlyers)...its not like they are playing against kids...they are playing against fellow proffesionals.

You're scoring against sub-par goaltenders... Cristobal Huet
for a goalie who finished last season with a 2.20 GAA (league's fourth best), and won the roger crozier saving grace award for the league's best save percentage (0.929 SV%), and had 7 shutouts in 36 games, thats almost 1 in 5, i'd say he's far from a sub-par goaltender.

Ken, as a fellow habs fan I agree that last year he was great. He worries me this year though. For some reason, I never trust him.
As for the post you were responding to that listed Turco as a great goalie....I wouldn't have that guy on my team in any circumstances. He is just brutal in the playoffs.
As for the sharks/Sabres debate....I think they are both great teams. Would make for a good final if it every happened. But I see the ducks and Oilers (d is suspect but they have amazing forwards) as major threats in the west.
East: It has gotta be Ottawa despite past playoff failures and the sabres as the front runners.
Malkin and Crosby have the potential to do incredible things in pittsburgh...maybe not this year but very soon.

last year i had unbelievable trust in huet. this year its shattered a bit. but its still early, players need to get on their game again. i mean hell kovalchuck had only 1 goal until last game. heatley and spezza have been nobodys. brad richards who? everyone will pick back up soon. were only 7-9 games in. i still have faith he can get hot for a good couple months and restore the confidence in everyone.
i disagree about ottawa as a front runner. even when their offence starts clicking (and defence -- wheres redden been?), they have a serious goaltending issue. gerber and emery? gerber is mentally fucked for good, and emery is just a hot or not goalie.

i dropped him off my fantasy team too.
its frustrating.
kovalev and samsonov on the same line should produce major results. and it doesn't. they both figure skate around and are lazy assholes. i hope the demotion fires him back up. but instead he's whining and wants to leave montreal. prove your value.
i still think he's a great player. just so some effin' drive.

i hoped they would, after watching the rangers on wednesday night vs florida, i had hopes for the coyotes--but what the hell was i thinking when a team has curtis joseph as their goalie...
and to throw this out there, ed belfour is by far the worst goalie i've watched since roman cechmanek. After watching him in the shootout tonight, i don't think i've ever been more disgusted - the consistent stacks, poke checks and flapping really sent me over the edge. FUCK YOU ED BELFOUR! :BANG

NHL News: Here are some current headlines in hockey!
-Bruins beat Ottowa in divison game: Captain Chara got the crowd fully into the contest when he made three consecutive bone jarring hits on his former Ottawa teammates. And then he traded shoves (and some punches) with Ottawa's Brian McGrattan for good measure. 2-1 Bruins win!
-Atlanta beats Buffalo and stops NHL history from being made: In a high-flying battle between the Eastern Conference's two best teams, Slava Kozlov scored in the shootout and Kari Lehtonen stopped all three Buffalo shootout attempts as the Thrashers won 5-4 Saturday night in Buffalo. Atlanta's win ended Buffalo's bid for an NHL record 11-straight wins to start a season.
-Toronto wins on Hockey Night in Canada: The Leafs outshot Montreal 51-22, including 8-2 in overtime, but needed Kyle Wellwood's goal on the seventh shot in a shootout to pull out a 5-4 win on Saturday night.
-Devils beat Blue Jackets for second shutout in a row: Martin Brodeur stopped 22 shots for his second straight shutout and Zach Parise provided the winner late in the second period to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
-Crosby and the Penguins beat down Flyers in Philly: Sidney Crosby picked up his first NHL hat-trick and Evgeni Malkin continued his scoring onslaught as the Penguins rolled to an 8-2 road win Saturday at Philadelphia
-Rangers beat Coyotes: Jagr, the Rangers captain who set multiple team scoring records in leading the Blueshirts to the playoffs last spring, was on top of is game on Saturday night in Phoenix. His goal and three assists -- and his key role in a four-goal second period -- set the pace for a 7-3 win that raised the Rangers' record to 5-5-0 on the seaosn
