on another note, anyone watching the Nashville/minnesota game? its a shooting gallery!! 6-4 going into the third!!
whiteysax
11-16-2006, 10:48 PM
This Nashville/Minnesota game is one of the most entertaining i've ever watched! 6-6 after regulation. In OT- a Kariya breakaway he missed on... another breakaway where he's tripped and gets a shot while flying through the air... on the ensuing penalty shot in OT, he hits the crossbar...
now its time for a shootout!!!
whiteysax
11-16-2006, 11:00 PM
wow... in the shootout Nashville could win it with 1 goal... Erat comes in, makes a move, Backstrom poke checks, the puck hits the goal stick then Erats forward motion deflects the poke check off the post, across teh goal line, where Backstrom's motion sliding back toward the net kicks it in. They review it and wave it off (the poke check ends the round whether the rebound continues to the net or not). in the very next round (sudden death now), Minnesota scores and Backstrom makes the save to take what looked to be a Nashville win, waved off and turned into a Minnesota win. That was so worth staying up for! crazy game!

anaheim is the team to reckon with in the west. picking up pronger and having neidermayer already means that at all times one of these defensive monsters will be on the ice. and beauchemin to compliment them. you cant score. not to mention they have two rockstar goalies in the ranks right now, and teemu took a paycut to be able to sign mroe talent. he is stanley cup focused and a real effin threat.
the team in the west to fuck with them will be calgary. take last years talent and stack on a goal scorer like tanguay, who will motivate iginla, and a more experienced phaneuf. with kipper in nets, they will be a tough team.
i cant wait for the season to start.
cheers.

so i know where you're coming from.
that being said - a couple teams in the east can give them a good run for their money with their style of play. not to mention they lost 7-4 to philly? wtf.

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!
They've surprised me this year. My preseason prediction was that they were going to take a year in transition with a new coach and developing the young players while relying on some of the older, slower veterans... but they've done quite the opposite. The young players are playing very strong, Sundin has been the captain he needs to be, and Tucker has been an offensive stronghold while resisting stupid penalties like he's been prone to take in the past. Raycroft has looked good as well... but once in a while shows inconsistency (like last nite where he just didn't look like he was trying very hard, despite the defense letting the rush get to the net too often).
27 games into the season and we're 13-10-4 --- 30 pts. Buffalo is on top of the division with 40 pts, followed by Montreal with 31. Then us. It's unfortunate that we have to fight with the best team in the east this year. Buffalo has been incredible! But we are #6 in the conference and it's looking much better than it did last year!:bounce

Good luck with that.
The habs are 3 points up with three games in hand and have much deeper defence and better goaltending.
I think the leafs have been very much overachieving. Relying on the powerplay and tucker for offence is going to catch up with them. Plus there are very good teams behind them in the standings that are simply too good to miss the playoffs. Ottawa and New Jersey for example have games in hand and are gaining on the leafs.
Thankfully, I think the leafs will once again miss the playoffs extending a very enjoyable and prolonged stanley cup drought.

You are definitely twisted.i can understand his position. I'm a huge Leafs fan, but hated Tucker ever since his "dramatics" and whining cost the Leafs a goal in the playoffs a few years ago, ultimately leading to another early exit. This year, however, he is an offensive force and I haven't seen him embellish many hits to draw penalties... he's just grinding it out... if he continues to play like that... he'll quickly earn back respect points...

What makes this even worse, the Ducks are actually playing very solid hockey and I HATE the Ducks. They made some good moves in the offseason, but just can't seem to make all the pieces fit together.
What makes this even worse, the Ducks are actually playing very solid hockey and I HATE the Ducks. I live down the street from where they play, I play my league hockey at there practice facility, and I still hate them with every ounce of my being. Scary part, they might even win the Cup this year. I would actually join this thread on a regular basis, but my team, the LA Kings, couldn't beat half the teams in the NCAA right now. I couldn't handle all beating I would take in here on a daily basis. The Kings just down right stink right now. They made some good moves in the offseason, but just can't seem to make all the pieces fit together.

the dealbreakers were:
1) kaberle didn't want to play in edmonton and edmonton was insistent on kaberle over mccabe
2) ferguson didn't want to part with steen.

there is no way you got equal value for pronger. ESPECIALLY in a salary cap world. in big trades where there is a superstar in his prime involved, rarely does everything pan out. the lindros deal is a noteable exception.

You have a loose screw. AND you live in the East, which thinks the world revolves around them, which probably makes for pretty biased "sports radio" or whatever you listen to.
Bottom line, Pronger ends up in Anaheim... we get Smid, Lupul and draft picks. And we still have a solid defence. Pronger has a totally crappy attitude about it anyway, which is obviously unacceptable. He got what he wanted and he just can't take the heat. Anyway, I'm happy with the trade. Who wants players here who don't want to be here? Nobody.

Do I need to bring up the Edmonton trade of the Great One? Yes, they did win a Cup after Gretzky left, and he never won in LA, but the Oilers didn't get much for Gretzky. Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, $15 million cash and the Kings' three first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993. Those three draft pick players, Jason Soules, Martin Rucinsky, Nick Stajduhar, played a total 4 games for the Oilers. Was that fair value for the games greatest?
The ironic thing, a biatchy wife was behind both the Gretzky and Pronger trades.

I was just trying to give a point of reference that you made about getting fair value on trades. You are correct that in trades for superstars, it is tough to gauge what is fair and to then end up actually trading for it. No matter where the draft pick is, unless you do some serious homework, and get a ittle lucky, it is so hard to get a draft pick to pan out as 'that draft pick from that trade.'

and lindsay, sorry, there is no way edmonton got the better end of the deal. pronger is so fucking ridiculous. go look at his +/-, goals, and assists on this year already. having an a+ forward isn't even equivalent as having an a+ defensemen. there are tons of a+ forwards out there and very limited a+ d men. its that simple. lupul is a c+ forward now (even with all the guys out for your team right now, he hasn't stepped up to shine), and will be a b- (b maybe) forward at best, and smid is an absolute scrub. i love my fellow canadian team, but swallow it already and stop being in denial, edmonton really got fucked. pronger is a top 5 player in the league -- any position.

Of course its hard to determine whether or not you are getting a good deal when you send a player like Pronger away, but sometimes you don't see the benefits right away. All players take time to develop, look at Smytty - over 10 years in the NHL and it looks as if he's finally having a career season (injury, ugh). Smid has already proven that he is solid defensively - and he is only 20 years old. I DON'T think we are better off without him, but we definitely aren't suffering. We are just where we need to be - at the top of the division.

i actually think the answer would be montreal. and i think more people would agree. and i used to live in toronto, there's a lot of coverage, but it's dwarfed by the media in montreal. plus, montreal has more hockey history, storied franchises, important landmarks, and a more passionate following. the only thing toronto has is cbc hnic but thats a numbers game.
