Haha, McCAbe? Are you Isaiah Thomas trying his hand at hockey.
Holy shit that is just laughable.
Mine Crosby, Briere, Pronger, Lindstrom, Heatley. Honorable mention to Ovechkin.
Kipper would be my pick between the pipes.
if i'm building a team, i'd like to have a defensemen who i know can make a play at any given time when he needs to join the rush or fend off a late charge from the opponent--you telling me McCabe isn't the best at those?
hes a finely tuned offensive defenseman--if we're talking full fledged defense, i'm taking niedermayer and souray, progner or lidstrom

yes I am telling you that McCabe isn't the best at "fending off a late charge from the opponent". He is brutal defensively. And even from a pure offensive standpoint he isn't the best either. All he can do his shoot...give me Niedermayer, Pronger, etc any day of the week.
The Leafs giving McCabe to 5M a year was music to my ears.
I agree with your all around defencemen, except for Souray. and I am a habs fan...but he is god awful defensively. He is dreadful one on one.

souray used to be good with NJ on defense when he was playing with stevens--hopfully the rumors are true and the Devils will sign him after this season

i watched parts of the game last night, it was like watching 2 new jersey devils teams play each other, the trap in both directions, dallas and edmonton both with depleted offense, it was a bit of a snoozer. good outcome though, and good p.k. by the oil, not letting dallas even register a shot on the 5on3.

its always bothered me that the first place team in every division always takes the 1-3 in conference standings. without fail, the 4th place team always has more points than the 3rd place team, and usually the 5th does as well.
such bullshit.
the habs have the 3rd most points in the eastern and new jersey is ranked ahead of them. and even more ridiculous in the west where san jose, dallas, detroit and minnesota all have more points than edmonton and the oilers are ranked 3rd. they should barely qualify for a playoff spot with that record.
i still dont understand the purpose behind it.

i like it right now, only because it directly benefits our team, but i do think it's kind of dumb, there can be a 3 point difference between third and out of a playoff spot.
i guess you could argue that it is because of the high number of intra-division games. if you have a strong or evenly matched division teams are more likely to split the points available in these games, unlike a division where one or two strong teams take most of the intra-division points.

Yeh, they have the talent, but im sure the talent will try to get out of the caps system so they can be on a contending team, I mean...wouldnt you if you were in their position?
The Hershey Bears are doing quite well to I believe. Whitey would know about that. I'm trying to get to one of their games this year. I'll catch the Caps ECHL team, the Stingrays, when Im down in Charleston for the Christmas holidays. But right now the Caps suck and the Stingrays suck, while the Bears I think are first in the divison, so it must be the coaching ability or something.

i've watched the thrashers this year on many occassions thanks to NHL center ice. Yes their offense is solid, no doubt in my mind on that one. But, your putting your hopes of beating teams like Buffalo, New Jersey, Montreal, The Rangers, and a rebouding team like the Senators in best of 7's in the hands of Keri Lehtonen? come on

Well, Shanny certainly does not play European style hockey.
Nor does Ovechkin for that matter.
And while I beleive it is personal choice to which style you prefer history clearly demostrates which style is more valuable.
Look at the list of Conn Symthe winners. Only one European. Nearly all Canadians.

i don't really understand the crosby hate. sure he shouldn't have had the 'a' last season, though this season it seems reasonable, and he's a bit cocky, but his in contention for the best player in the league, at 19 years old, he's going to be a little cocky. the to be honest, i don't get to see a lot of him here in the west, so maybe i'm missing something.
on the best in the league thing, i think jerome of the last month in up there too, that guy is amazing. apparently he spent the summer losing 25 pounds so his body would be more appropriate for the "new nhl" style of play.

He doesn't bitch about penalties... his face isn't plastered all over every new hockey product (coughRBKcough). He is a leader and an inspirer and allows me to hate Crosby even more.

A good player makes those around him better....this abides to both Crosby and Ovechkin. They both bring energy with every shift, and can single-handedly change games by simply going end to end. It's a really difficult choice to pick who i'd rather have between these 2, between Crosby's fabulous passes and Ovechkin's wrist shot, i can't even make up my mind, they're too god damn good...

Rangers have given up 15 goals in two games....wow What In the Blue Hell happened to them? I mean if they lose another big one to the Islanders I think it may be getting close to a coaching change or a big trade. I realize the success they have had in the last season and beggining of this one, but 15 goals in two games should never EVER happen without some response from the GM. They better turn things around against the Islanders on tuesday or else I think something needs to be done. I dont even care if they lost to the Islanders, just make it close and dont give up more than F'N 5 goals.

The form fitting ones... no more sweaters... they'll be this compound fiber stuff that form fits and will be tight to the pads and the body... Like Under Armour... for the outside...
players are talking about how it doesnt keep them warm and is too uncomfortable and its too revealing when it comes to where the padding stops, leaving them vulnerable if they're wearing extra padding over a spot that they're nursing

Mike Peca will miss the rest of the regular season due to a broken leg and a knee injury.
Peca sustained a fractured tibial plate, the area in which the top of the shin bone meets the knee and also suffered damage to the meniscus in his right knee after being hit by Chicago's Jim Vandermeer on Friday night. He is out of action for at least three months, putting the rest of his season in jeopardy. From a fantasy perspective, feel free to cut Peca loose, as he will not contribute the rest of this year, and the Leafs will look internally for now for his replacement.

We all know why he went to Toronto. And now he's out for the season. I'm just saying, its karma.
to play for a team that didn't make the playoffs last year and take a $1.5 mil pay cut? and if i'm not mistaken, he has family in the east.

i really don't have any hard feelings towards peca, he signed a one-year contract, fulfilled it and played his ass off while he was here, and decided to move on. now if he'd signed a multi-year contract, and bailed after one year (who'd do that anyway?), i'd feel a little differently. hate to see anyone hurt like that.

Are those games being televised here in the States? Would rather watch that and college over my beloved, yet horrible, Kings.

not sure, tsn is playing most of the games here, if you can get get that. otherwise, no idea really. it's good hockey, and i think the nhl needs to the no-touch icing.

12-26-2006, 07:41 PM
I would agree about the icing. I know that in the lockout they tried to do away with it, but the players like the macho aspect of the race to the puck.
I will try some of the alternate sports channels to see what I can find. How bad and to who did the US lose to?

they lost to germany in overtime, 2-1 i think. tsn's website has pretty good hockey coverage including a world juniors section - of course the focus is on canada, but it's a good place.

they have definitely fallen off... strong out of the gate, but a huge decline in keeping up the energy. Lundqvist definitely doesn't look like the netminder we saw a few weeks ago or even last year...

I actually hope they keep playing horrible so we can get a good pick in the draft... But i hope they don't make a stupid trade sending away a decent young player to try to save the year. Although, that shouldn't be a problem now that Clarke is gone.
P.S. I miss Justin Williams.
