Tony K is a fucking idiot.
We all know Oakland sucks and whatnot, but as an announcer you aren't supposed to just sit there and tell us how "irrelevant" a team is.
I miss Madden on MNF...Madden finds good things to say about players, teams, etc...
Madden will say a call is bad if a ref makes a bad call, he doesnt act like Tony K or other morons and just go along with bad calls.
i love Madden. i liked it when he was doing the Steeler/Charger game. he kept on talking about Big #76 the whole game. BTW, Williams is a badass. :D

That's not a problem with us. Either way we are gonna play them. Brady is just as good inside, sometimes better than outside.
Tonights loss was good cause we saw our defense can hang with Peyton this year. Usually our offense has no problem, but tonight was a different story. Brady doesn't throw that first, stupid INT and we make that field goal and tonight goes a whole different direction.
I stand by my initial comment about the stupidity of the above comment. First of all NE, made alot more mistakes than the two stated above and furthermore the Colts made their share of "mistakes", regardless the game last night was not won or loss in one or two mistakes made by one team (New England).
I am under the assumption that the phrase "goes a whole different direction" is implying that if Brady hadn't thrown the first INT and the NE kicker hadn't missed that field goal attempt; New England would have won the game - that line of reasoning is just stupid.
Some New England Fans :BANG
Yeah they made some mistakes. But one of them wasn't characteristic. Brady doesn't just throw em up into the endzone like that. I'm not saying we should have won. I'm just looking at two instances that normally don't occur with the team. Penalties fucked them, but they deserved them and they tend to happen. I'm not gonna what if those. Nor do I what if. I just saw two plays that aren't normal.
Jeez...some Indiana fans...oh that's right Hoosier and Colts. Good luck with that. At least NASCAR is fun...

Were you in the Bengals thread with me saying those exact words earlier on in the season? Bad fan base...Someone asked me today why I chose to be a Browns fan instead of a Bengals fan. Ever been to a game at Paul Brown Stadium? Ever been to a game at Cleveland Browns Stadium? There's your answer.
Nah, I missed that conversation, but I definitely agree with you. I know as a Steelers fan, I'm supposed to hate you guys, but I have a lot of respect for Browns fans. Your team has never won anything (unless you want to count your NFL Championships in the pre-Super Bowl era...), yet you continue to go to games and support the team. You even talk shit to Steelers fans!!! As funny as that is, I find it very respectable. I'd say the Steelers and Packers have the best fans in the league, but I'd put the Browns right up there as well.

"Brady doesn't throw that first, stupid INT and we make that field goal and tonight goes a whole different direction."
:lol What are you frustrated about, that I actually do have some reading comprehension skills? I'm sorry but the above statement definitely implies that NE should have won the game if it wasn't for the 1st INT and some missed field goal. (If I were a NE fan, I'd be bitchin more about the play calling getting away from running the ball down Indy's throat) The thing you have to remember from grade school is that your intended meaning is worthless unless you use the right combination of words to successfully get your point across to your readers.
Seriously there is no need to make personal insults about my reading capabilities.
BTW I am proud to be a Hoosier, thank you. And what does NASCAR have to do with anything at all.......either you think it insults me that Indiana is famous for car races or you have ADHD; which one is it?
Anyways, right now I'd put Indy and NE as the top teams in the AFC and more than likely will face each other at some point in the playoffs. I am just glad that the Colts have essentially a 3 game lead for the #1 seed (accounting for the tie-breakers against the other contenders). I'd much rather Indy play in the dome than NE. The Colts vs. Patriots - best rivarly in football today (IMO) - love it, just don't enjoy interacting with NE fans. :BANG

I think it has to do with the level of talent - Indy and Pats are definitely at the top of the league in terms of talent. The Steelers on paper are also talented - which is why it's easier for the general football fanbase to accept "excuses" for the Steelers when they lose to teams they SHOULD be beating - such as the Raiders. It's harder to accept the same "excuse" when one talented team loses to another talented team. Again, yes the Pats made mistakes but so did the Colts. The Colts may be many things (such as being "soft" in their run D) but with their level of talent - claiming they ONLY won because of another team's mistakes (essentially implying they won due to luck) is a bit ridiculous dont you think?
Anyways that's just my 2 cents - I'm sure we will all be talking about the same thing come January - hopefully

Eh, I'm done arguing with it. Fine, the Colts only won because god's gift to football or otherwise known as the New England Patriots "gave it away" and it had absolutely nothing to do with Manning's performance or Marvin's terrific game or the surprising play of Indy's secondary; whatever makes you guys sleep better at night.

ZING! All these years of college education ain't workin' for me apparently, but whatever; agree to disagree
Anyways, on to the rest of the season
Indy vs. Buffalo - Colts should win but after two big "emotional" wins, there might be a let down. Let's hope not.
The last remaining games against relatively tough opponents will be Dallas, PHI ,Jags, and Cinci - I'll say 3-1 (losing to either Dallas or the Jags). I also wouldn't be surprised if Indy drops one against a "weak" opponent but that's only because the Colts will decide to give it away; just to be nice ;)
Indy will probably be 14-2 (13-3 if no team emerges to challenge for the #1 seed and the Colts decide to rest its starters at the end of the season)
Really curious to see how well Chicago can play against the tough part of their schedule.
GO COLTS! :hump

Steve Young was lambasted by 49er fans the year he took over from Montana because they were only 10 and 6 and missed the playoffs. Hilarious how quickly they were ready to throw a future Hall of Fame QB under the bus. That is the most famous 10 and 6 I believe.
But of course others like the Chefs.

only if they beat the chargers in san diego and the broncos. or if the chargers take a loss to the broncos twice.
or if you beat baltimore and jacksonville. the way the AFC west and the AFC North play eachother this year and the fact that you play all the second place teams puts the chiefs in perfect position to set your own fate.
your last game is jacksonville. it will probably come down to that.

The Steelers have the best talent.
Casey Hamton - best 3-4 DT in the game
Troy Polamalu - best safety in the game
Hines Ward - best all around reciever in the game
Joey Porter - best 3-4 OLB in the game
James Farrior - best 3-4 MLB in the game

Alexander really didn't respond well to the loss of Hutch, which is a giant loss.
Also, I completly disagree about the Steelers, and what you said about them.
Ward the best reciever in the leauge?
He doesn't have the hands that Holt does, the speed that Moss does, the on field awareness that Marvin does, or the strength that TO does.
I also disagree with your sentiments on Polamalu, as I personally think that it's Ed Reed.
Also, and I don't mean to be a dick, but you'd think that "The most talented team in football" would have more than 2 wins, and wouldn't lose to the Raiders.

I don't think Ward is the best at anything among NFL recievers other than blocking, but when you look at his entire skill set I don't think anyone comes close. You always hear that he's not fast enough to be considered an elite reciever, but he ran away from D'Angelo Hall a few weeks ago. He also has played the last 2 years with no help from the other recievers, so he's always facing double and triple teams.
As for Reed and Polamalu I think they're both perfect for their system. Reed plays a lot of center field, while Troy plays everywhere. Most defensive players only excel in the right scheme. I think the 2 best DT in football are Hampton and Tommy Harris, but if you put them in the other person role they wouldn't be as good.

You're really starting to show your lack of knowledge. I've heard tons of analysts say Polamalu is the best safety in the league, and I've heard several say Hines Ward is the best overall WR in the league (it's pretty much unanimous that he's the best blocking WR). As for the others, notice he said best 3-4 DT or best 3-4 OLB. That doesn't mean they're the best in the league, and there really aren't that many teams that run a 3-4 defense. If you're going to laugh at his argument, at least give us one of your own or provide a good argument against his.

I'm not biased at all. I'm just knowledgeable about the game, and most of the people who talk football on here are not. If I would have made that argument last year, no one would have the problem with it that everyone does today. The guys I mentioned there as the best are the best at what they do, and I don't think any other team has that many players who perform their roles better than the Steelers.
What has killed the Steelers this year is the inability to hold onto the football and stopping big athletic recivers. That is why they are 2-6, not because they aren't loaded with talent.

It's not Madden. A lot of things go into winning a football game, and talent is actually not that high on my list. Talent simply makes all of the other things that go into winning work better. For every physical freak in the NFL there is a guy undersized and slow kicking his ass week in and week out.

I hate arguing about who the best receiver in football is because there are so many receivers that excel at so many different things that it's hard to pick just one. I'd put Torry Holt up there, along with Steve Smith, Hines Ward, Marvin Harrison, and Terrell Owens. Yes, I left out Randy Moss and Chad Johnson on purpose. I don't think they're on the same level anymore as the guys I mentioned above. Chad Johnson has had an extremely difficult time getting open this season (and don't say it's because he's double teamed, because Hines Ward is ALWAYS double teamed and still puts up big stats) and Randy Moss isn't the same player he used to be.

Chad Johnson is an elite reciever...He is having a tough year because Palmer is still feeling the effects of his knee and his mechanics are off which are causing him troubles throwing the deep ball, which are Johnson's strength.

The Colts may not have the best "overall" team - but I do not know how there is even any discussion on who has the best offense in the league. Their passing offense has not even peaked yet.
Stokley has been out pretty much all year, forcing Indy to play a more 2TE offensive sets. They have ran some spread 3WR sets but the slot has been Clark, who is a very good TE but does not have the quickness or speed of Stokley.
Also they have had to depend on a rookie in the backfied - who has done relatively well all year.

Yeah, I kind of know what he means. It sounds ridiculous to say a 2-6 team has been "dominant", but as someone else who has watched every Steelers snap this season, they have dominated several of the games they've lost as far as yardage differences go. They outgained the Bengals 365-246, the Falcons 473-399, the Raiders 360-98, and the Broncos 499-336. So how did they lose all of those games? Turnovers. When anyone asks how in the world the defending Super Bowl champions are 2-6, the answer is as simple as that: turnovers. And I'm not saying they shouldn't be 2-6... when you make stupid turnovers like they have, you don't deserve to win. I do understand where he's coming from when he says they've been dominant this season though. It's becoming a weekly ritual for me to sit on the couch 15-20 minutes after a game, staring blankly into space while wondering how in the world they just lost that game.

Other than the Jacksonville and the 2nd half of the San Diego game I've never got the feeling that we were getting outplayed. What has made the turnovers worse is where they have happened. It seems as if they never come in the middle of the field, and automatically they take points off the board or put them on the board for the opponent.
For several years now the Steelers have managed to lose games they should have won easily, New England and Jacksoville last year, Atlanta in 2002, and Houston as an expansion team. This year it has happened every week.

True. The turnovers seemingly always come at the worst possible moments... usually when we're in the red zone or steadily driving down the field with a chance to either take the lead or put the game away. People who haven't watched the entire games think we're crazy when we say the Steelers are a good team with a bad record, and I don't really blame them... but I think to truly judge this team, you have to have followed each game. One thing I found interesting was that last week Phil Simms, who has done almost every Steelers game on CBS this season (he may have done them all actually), said pretty much the exact same things the two of us have been saying. This team is a freakin' enigma.

That's just the thing, is that people have't watched the Steelers play. Most people have probably seen the 3 national games, which were less than spectatular performaces. They dominated the Raiders just check the box score. The Raiders were incredibely luck to win that game. The didn't cause any of the turnovers as much as they lucked their way into them. The first TD was a half inch away from being a 25 yard gain, but somehow Morrison got a finger tip on it popping it up in the air. The ball Morrisson actually picked off he literally got thrown 5 yards backwards while trying to blitz, and ended up right in the throwing lane. The 2nd TD was inexcusebale.

One or two? The Steelers have been comitting more than 2 turnovers most of the time it seems like.

I'm pretty sure I've said the Pats lost to the Colts because they aren't as good as most Pats fans still believe them to be. That's the same reason they lost to the Broncos. They also have yet to succesfully replace Crennel and Weis, so their gameplanning isn't what is used to be.

And still half of Brady's INTs were giftwrapped for the Colts, and the Pats gave the Colts over 100 yards on stupid penalties, so you can NOT argue that they didn't partially give away that game.
Indy had 354 total net yards to the Pats 349 total net yards
Indy had 7 penalties (68 yards) and Pats had 8 (81 yards) - not a huge difference IMO
Neither team "dominated" -
Overall the game was pretty even - with Indy just finding a way to win while playing mediocre football (as they have been doing all year)
While you are entitled to your opinion (obviously) about Indy's defense playing relatively no part in NE offense's turnovers - I, like most fans, think NE lost because they got away from the running game as opposed to "giftwrapped" turnovers and/or stupid penalties by NE. Not that it matters at this point.......just wanted to clear up that whole turnover thing

It's pretty simple... talent-wise, the Steelers are better than most of the teams they play. If they don't turn the ball over, they should win almost every week. The players haven't changed much at all over the past two seasons in which they went 26-6... the difference is that they're turning the ball over this year, something they haven't done the past two seasons. The talent is still there, but the execution is sorely lacking.

2 reasons
1. The highest scoring team in the NFL
2. Up until today a very good defense ranked #2(hahah)
i mean, the schedual might be weak, but they hold their opposition to few yards (typically) and score a lot.
the two games they lost they where not beaten, but indeed gave them away. take away 2 turnovers in the KC game and add some pass plays in the ravens game and you are looking at a 9-0 charger team. however, i think there is plenty of reason to call them overrated based on schedual. but, the steelers, rams, bengals are not easy wins.
the win today shows that they can be a big time team however many yards they may have given up
i think next sunday night however will be the true test of where the chargers stand.
even if the chargers are overrated, this same team did beat some good teams last year and are maturing as a football team. 7-2 is pretty good still. ;) i think they can beat anybody in the league.

They haven't beat anyone of signifigance yet, and Brady's accuracy and yards per attempt are way down this year. The Steelers and Bengals obituaries were already written and published, and New Engaland is getting there quickly.

Yea man, the Patriots are 6-3. No reason whatsoever to write them off. But, losing to the Jets certainly exposed them. Brady has been very off the last 2 weeks. Yeah, I think the Patriots are still pretty much a lock to win that division (I'm still not sold on the Jets), so as long as they're in position to make the playoffs, you can't write them off. Is it fair to say we can cross the Patriots off the list of legit Super Bowl contenders? They haven't beat anyone of signifigance yet, and Brady's accuracy and yards per attempt are way down this year. The Steelers and Bengals obituaries were already written and published, and New Engaland is getting there quickly.
I cannot believe the New England, Pittsburgh, and Cincy have all been so disappointing. I would have penciled atleast 1 of those teams into the AFC championship game before the season started.

The Colts choking in the playoffs is always possible, but I don't think that San Diego will march into Indy and beat them on their homefield.
I also don't see the Giants going into Soldier Field and winning. The Panthers or Eagles are another story...but we'll cross that road when we get there.

that may have been the most explosive offense game I've ever witness in the NFL. Seriously, what other game do you know off hand that had 100 points scored and nearly 1000 total yards?

Steelers-Saints actually had more total yards (not as many points though).

Yeah... they had 984 total yards. The Bengals-Chargers had 975. :lol Not much of a difference, but it's strange to see two games in one week with that much offense.

Who here still thinks the Bears are the best team in the NFL? Aside from Bears fans...
I'm starting to come around and think that the Colts are the best team...Their defense leaves something to be desired, but they are winning close games, and they always find a way to pull it out...
I know I said the Chargers are over rated, but now that I think about it, IMO the Chargers are better than the Bears....

I'd say Colts than a tossup b/t the Bears and Chargers. I have to assume yesterday was an aberration of San Diego's D, but Philip Rivers has that offense scorching.
As a Giants fan. Ouch. Big ouch to witness it.

IMO Grossman started off hot against weak teams, but everytime he has faced a decent defense he has sucked...
He ended well yesterday against a depleted NYG team...
If the Bears were in the AFC, IMO they would not be talked about as the best team in the NFL...
I'm starting to get worried about my Pats...They shouldn't have lost to the fucking JETS. The JETS! Give me a break...I was so in shock yesterday, I couldn't even talk about it when people would ask me about it.

I dono if you're implying that I am overlooking GB, but never said anything about next week...
If you weren't, my bad..
The Packers are improved, but they havent really beaten anyone good...Minnesota isn't very good, we thought they were for a little while, but they just arent...I am worried about the Patriots, but I fully expect them to find a way to win next week. I REALLY don't see them dropping 3 in a row...

I love that I got laughed at for saying the Pats are not a legit Super Bowl contender right now. They've lost to the 2 best teams in the AFC, have lost 2 in a row at home where they were reportedly invincible, Brady is having perhaps his worst season ever, which is reflective of many flaws in the team. I'm saying right now the Jets win the Division.
What cracked me up about Chad's dance was that he threw the Joey Porter kick in at the end as well.

He should have gone on to some Ray Lewis too.
His kiss with a comatose TJ was nice too.
I really love the guy. The interview after the game was funny as hell. "We're not supposed to say how we feel about the loss to the media, so I won't. I just want everyone to know that I'm pissed off." That's paraphrased heavily.

I'm starting to get worried about my Pats...They shouldn't have lost to the fucking JETS. The JETS! Give me a break...I was so in shock yesterday, I couldn't even talk about it when people would ask me about it.
When I was watching that game - this is in all seriousness, I'm just not busting on the Patriots - I couldn't remember in recent memory a game where the Jets were playing that Pats that well.
And let me back this up by saying, I HATE THE JETS, always have, always will (has most to do with a close friend I grew up with who would never back down about the Jets even in the Kotite years). I hate Pennington and guys on their D, especially Vilma. I could only respect Curtis Martin.
The Pats had dominated the Jets in recent years, but yesterday the Jets brought it. Their offense was consistent, not flashy, b/c their WRs made some great catches all game. The D was really pushing around the Pats offense in the slop, separating WRs from balls and coming up with a few key turnovers. They were winning against the Pats upfront and causing Brady to have a bad day.
That outcome really surprised me, I thought Brady would win it in the end but the Jets actually held on, which I wasn't expecting.
Whatever Mangini is doing, he's getting a helluva lot more out of this team than Herm Edwards did. The Jets had have an easy schedule, and a game like that Browns game really hurt, especially now that they beat NE. If they win the games they "should win" with the way they played yesterday, they could go 10-6 or maybe even squeeze by with only 1 more loss. Although, @ GB and @ MIN are tough late season road games. I qualify by saying that this is only something that could happen. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Jets hit their December swoon, that I do really enjoy watching, and go like 1-3 in the month and fall out of it.
I thought they'd go 3-13, but as much as I hate them, this may be the first year I've ever respected them.

They're 6-3, and I think they'll make the playoffs as the 2nd wild card. Right now I just don't think they're on the same level as Denver, Indy, Baltimore, and SD. The Pats have 2 tough games left, and the Jets have 1 tough game left. It's something that could definitely happen.

People take pages from the media. Last week the Giants bandwagon was overflowing, almost everyone picked them to win. Now all of the sudden, they are the most overrated team, they quit, and Coughlin is the worst coach in years. (Because as a lot of the media says, the Bears didn't play any part in it, the Giants lost the game themselves. They only won because of a single fluke field goal return).
Every week it's a new bandwagon. People are a LOT more susceptible to the media than they think. This week, the Chargers bandwagon is growing, and if the Panthers win another 2 games they will once again be proclaimed as the "legit" Super Bowl contenders in the NFC.
