although i agree with you, bignasty, the division race might be closer than a lot of people are expecting. on another note, talk about two of the most favorable schedules to end the season.

NY Jets
Chicago
Houston
@ Green Bay
Buffalo
@ Minnesota
@ Miami
Oakland

NE Pats
@ Green Bay
Chicago
Detroit
@ Miami
Houston
@ Jax
@ Tenn

i still see the pats pulling off the division, though, cause i give the jets at most 4 more wins. i think the pats can pull out 5, if not 6 more.

My top 5

1. Colts
2. Bears
3. Ravens
4. Chargers
5. Seahawks

1. Colts
2. Broncos
3. Bears
4. Chargers
5. Ravens

Since we are all doing this, might as well chime in.

as from what i have seen of the media they believe this

1. Colts
2. Chargers
3. Bears
4. Broncos
5. Ravens

Note: ive watched PTI, Cold Piazza, NFL live, and Around The Horn and thats what i took away.

my on opinion is

1. Colts
2. Broncos
3. Ravens
4. Chargers
5. Bears

however, team 1-4 can beat any team 1-4 any given sunday. the bears would need some help, grossman just cant play against a good defense and the colts would find a way to win.

Well, no matter how well Grossman plays the rest of the season, there will always be an excuse. The Seahawks were "right behind the Bears" in defense going into the game, but that game didn't count afterwards...because they were missing an offensive player and that's all that mattered. The Giants game doesn't count because of injuries. The Jets game won't count because though they just made Brady their bitch, they still aren't good. The Pats game won't count, just give it time. They don't have the receivers, they don't have their best defensive player, they aren't good anymore anyways...the list will go on and on if the Bears pull it off.

The Bears have been and will be stuck under the damned if they do, damned if they don't stigma all season. If they do good against bad teams, it's "who cares, those teams suck." If they do good against good teams it's "Oh, but they were injured and BESIDES, they were clearly overrated anyways and only gave the bears the game, the Bears had no part in it."

If they do bad against a good team it'll be "See, they can't beat good teams!" If they do bad against a bad team it's "Lol, see they are the most overrated ever. They can't even beat a bad team!" Even though every other team in the league is doing the same thing week in and week out but they all get mulligans. Case in point, Denver.

Dude, SHUT. UP.

You are just a bitter Bears fan who loves to bitch about shit you made up. No one gives the Bears credit even though they are a top 5 team according to EVERYONE. Someone just said Rex Grossman isnt the MVP people said he was through the first 5 or so games, which he IS NOT. Not even close. He is a solid QB, nothing more. Quit freaking out.

Tiduwho
11-14-2006, 09:56 PM
Who said anything about MVP? I was saying that it doesn't matter what the Bears do the rest of the season, because people can just keep using excuses as to why they are actually not that good a team at all, that they're just "okay". Where did you detect bitterness? Bears fans are used to it..Like I (and the rest of Chicago) are realizing, the Bears won't get any respect until they win the Super Bowl. Even making it wouldn't be much because "there are no teams in the NFC". They would be "two touchdown dogs at minimum" no matter who is playing them in the AFC.

That's the pulse of the league and the media. Just stating what's out there. I mean, this is standard stuff here. Funny that Marriotti is one of the few that aren't toeing this line for once this week. Even Wilbon is down on the Bears.

The majority of what I've heard/read has not pulled the injury card and give Chicago full credit for Sunday's win. I get the feeling you want to be able to fall back on this thinking in case the Bears do disappoint you this year.

Haha, you wish. But how would "falling back" on this thinking benefit me now? I don't get what you mean, I'm not the one buying into it, I'm the one going against it. How could I all of the sudden turn around and blend back into the crowd and say "Yeah, me and the media were right all along, the Bears weren't any good at all." I mean, huh?

And no, it's not the injury card so much as the "Giants actually aren't that good/didn't show up/gave the game to Chicago" card.

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_whatsgoinon/

After weeks of people saying we'd know who the Bears were after they played the Giants on the road, backpedaling was the habit of the day. Apparently we still don't know who the Bears are for any of the following reasons:

• The Giants had several injuries on defense and still played well for a half, which should not have happened if the Bears were a good team.
• The Bears allowed a 100-yard rusher for the third consecutive week. (Never mind that it was Tiki Barber, who's rushed for 100 yards in six of nine games this season, and he had a 46-yard long, which is a danger in a gap-control defense.)
• One of the Bears' touchdowns was on a field goal return, and that blew the game open rather than cutting the Bears' lead to one. They can't rely on a field goal return for a touchdown. (Never mind that the defense forced a 52-yard field goal in rainy, windy Giants Stadium, which is legitimately due to the defense's talent.)

The L.A. Times' Bill Plaschke (http://www.latimes.com/sports/columnists/la-columnist-bplaschke,1,3729233.columnist?coll=la-headlines-sports-columnists) and ESPN's Woody Paige (http://www.woodypaige.com/) both said the game was more an indictment of how ill-prepared and poorly-coached the Giants were. Plaschke pointed out the injuries and that the Giants seemed to quit on the field goal play.

Said Paige: "This is a statement about Tom Coughlin, who can't coach, and he's looking confused on the sidelines. … Jay Feely never makes 50-yarders."

Bill Plaschke's current and Jay Mariotti's former colleague J.A. Adande (http://www.latimes.com/sports/columnists/la-columnist-jadande,1,2205741.columnist) said, "The Bears had a chance to make their statement as an elite team, I don't think they did that." Between the poor start by Grossman and the run defense, Adande said, the Bears still have question marks. He also criticized the Bears for "needing" a 108-yard field goal return to blow the game open, and can they rely on that every game?

It was New Yorker Tony Kornheiser who seemed to stick to the "this game proves the Bears are for real" theory on Pardon the Interruption, and not Chicago native and die-hard Bears fan Michael Wilbon.

Wilbon mentioned both the Giants' injuries and the 100-yard performance by Barber, to which Kornheiser responded: "The Bears were without their deep threat Berrian and were on the road? To me this is like New England losing at home to the Colts."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2659805

But mostly it was a bizarre Sunday evening, too, one in which the alleged two best teams in the NFC performed in a sloppy manner befitting the conditions. And in which the Chicago Bears (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=chi) and the New York Giants (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyg) both seemingly established that whoever represents the talent-laden AFC in Super Bowl XLI probably will do so as about a two-touchdown favorite.

That's a couple examples. By the way, New York talk radio is a joke I hear. Eli this, Coughlin that. Not that the Bears are a better team than them, it's just that the Giants didn't show up.

The standard out there is pretty much summed up as "The Bears are the best in the NFC, but what does that even mean or prove?"

Only as good as his offensive line, kinda like Brady and Eli over the weekend.

Eli has played twice as many games as Grossman, how come he can't handle pressure and keep his composure? He got knocked around a few plays and after that even when he had time he was sailing the ball 10 feet over guys' heads. That's weird.

But yeah, Rex sucks when he has two guys tackling him while he throws, how can he not complete a simple pass like that? I mean, he had two seconds of time on a five step drop, come on! He should just pull that ball back so he can fumble instead.

Eli played like complete shit. Part of his problem was pressure, but he was even missing easy throws when he had plenty of time to throw. He was thoroughly outplayed by Grossman.

yeah, but a lot of those guys are DBs, the comparison to nose tackle is a little off.

he is by far the best nose tackle in the game, what he can do to two offensive linemen and still make a tackle in the backfield is what makes the san diego defense so good.

peppers is better, Polomalu is too, the way Reed can change a game like that is amazing.

If Eli could realize that he has one of the best Tight Ends in the league on his team, he would be better. Throwing these wobbling duck passes downfield and praying that Burress can jump and catch it is not the way to win football games against good teams.

i'm assuming the colts are favored, but i'm guessing it's by no more than 3. i honestly think we have a legitimate shot. we just can't turn the ball over. and jones/barber have to have huge games. the only thing that worries me is our secondary. we're known for giving up big plays, and if anyone's known for their big plays in the passing game, it's the colts. i'm just glad that i can finally say that i'm happy with who we have at quarterback. i haven't felt this comfortable with our quarterback for about 5 years now. TO still hasn't had a break-out game. i'm hoping he chooses this week to have it. it would be pretty cool if vanderjagt kicks the game winner against his former team, but we all know how that could go *cough*redskin's game*cough*. here's to hoping we don't lay a giant turd on the field and lose by 2 touchdowns.

Yes they do; it'll be a close game (which is the trend of the season for the Colts). And yes if Dallas turns the ball over against the Colts they are fucked. This cliche is true against any team but with the Peyton and Co. you might as well stop watching.

Unfortunately it's always a high scoring game with Indy; with their superior offense and inept defense. Hopefully the Colt's defense get their strong safety Bob Sanders back - he's basically an extra LB.

That statement sounds a bit contradicting IMO. Isn't the 4th quarter when the pressure is the highest?? He has had a few game winning 4th quarter performances this season...I don't think his problem is pressure, I think he just isn't consistent, and that he is still learning...

Some QBs have immediate success like Brady, Rivers, Ben, etc...

But some need a few years to straighten themselves out to be consistent, even his brother Peyton. Peyton was getting picked up around 20 times a year for his first 5-6 seasons, and was inconsistent.....I'm not saying he will be his brother, but give him some time, he's gonna be a good one...

It amazes me that a SD fan would say he is by far the best, suprising!. JK.

Yeah, I met Wilfork.

I see Williams as more of a Sam Adams or Ted Washington in that you aren't going to move them, and they aren't going to make much effort to move. They're all very effective at what they do, but they're basically useless outside of that role.

Harris is a much different player than the other guys you mentioned because he's moveable, but his quickness is hard to deal with for the guys in the middle of the offensive line.

VanHorneDog
11-15-2006, 10:22 PM
I haven't seen enough Chargers game to judge Williams, but when I have seen him I thought he wasn't as good at breaking up plays that aren't right at him as Hampton, Stroud and maybe even Wilfolk. He's basically unmoveable, but I think there are some other guys who are the same way with more athletic ability. I may be way off.

as for athletic ability, have you ever seen a nose tackle make a play 20 yards downfield after a screen play to push a guy out of bounds to save a touchdown? the guy is probably the fastest 300 pound guy in the lague. but i understand what you guys are saying, i watch him all the time and see him eat up 2 linemen and make way for our LB to get in the holes and make plays.

He went to SD because their system fit his talents more.

i dont believe anybody goes anyplace in the draft, they dont have a choice. unless you are prince eli manning of course.

They looked awesome against Cincy....:lol

yes, they did didnt they? two things happend in that game. carson got his groove back and our LB/DE core is so injured and depleted right now that we couldnt get pressure on him. he had all day in the pocket and with C. Johnson and Hushmanwtqqwerq spreading the field out we got burned big time. i still dont think our secondary is great, but with the pressure on the quarter back we have had all year its been a lot easier for them. all you have to do is block our LBs and DEs and you can beat our defense. :lol

I don't know where to start so I'll just say I disagree with parts of your post and move on. I don't want to get into it. I think his problem lies in the fact that he can't throw the ball more then 20 yards in a spiral and he doesn't check off Burress to Shockey.

EDIT: Also... I just felt so weird typing that post. You are defending Eli and I am bashing him, while I am the Giants fan and like Eli and you don't. :lol

Yeah I know what you mean. :lol

I agree that Eli has struggled a lot, but I really have confidence he will turn it around...At times he looks unstoppable, but a lot of the time he looks like he has no idea what he's doing out there.

something i've never understood and perhaps someone can please explain it to me. whenever you see on tv some handicapper or whatever giving his "official" picks for the week -- how come it's never more than just 3 or 4 games? and what determines those games specifically that are picked?

and this seems to go for EVERYONE that i see on tv, whether it's a professional handicapper, or a situation like frank caliendo(sp?)'s little bit on the fox pregame show.

Doesn't matter...

He does this all the time...

His stat lines consistently will say 9 rush attempts for 16 yards, or something....HE will average 2 yds a carry for 22 carries then have one long run that makes his stats pretty...And Mike Holmgren pads his stats with the TDs.

I think he if one of the top backs, but top 3 back in the NFL, and on the same level as LJ and LT? I DON'T THINK SO.

how good is the cowboy's chance of getting second seed in the nfc? nobody else looks like they want to step up except maybe carolina, but we beat them if it should come down to a tie. i think we have two games left against teams with winning records, and that's against the depleted giants and a saints team that isn't looking so great anymore. would 11-5 be enough to take second in the nfc?

1 was stupid, the other was a bad call i think. (i thought what maden said is was florence laid on him to long? i didnt see anything like that)

also, we are maturing offensivly and have been mature defensivly for a couple of seasons now up front, but finally are secondary is coming around. Cromartie made some good plays tonight, looks like a good pick now.

i do like what marty had to say about our defense though after the game (something like this): we where litteraly looking for anybody who we thought could play those positions (LB and OLB) who have never had any practice at them. We ran out of defensive players.

that goes to show you, that they are giving up points, but we are still good enough to hold them enough to let our offense win. :thumbsup

Man you really sound like a bias SD fan and the Chargers can do no wrong in your eyes.

And don't give me that about how your defense is struggling now cause people are hurt...You guys have given up an average of 28 points and no less than 19 points in the last 6 contests...

I'm pretty sure your defense has not been depleted for that long...

You held Oakland, Tennessee, and Baltimore's weak offense to low scores at the beginning of the year, but that's it. No good teams.

The only good team you guys have beaten is Denver. And you gave up 27 points to their weak offense..

You beat Pittsburgh when they were really really struggling..

I thin SD is a top 5 team, but you make them sound like they are on the highway to the Superbowl right now.

If their offense is the most dangerous in the NFL than I am Mary Poppins and I'm about to play a boggle tournament with Jack Bauer.

I thought it was a typical Steelers game from this year. Ike Taylor got burnt. The special teams sucked. Wide Recievers cannot catch the ball. The O-line played like shit.

I actually called Cribbs return, and I thought it was over at that point.

It was nice to see that it's actually a rivalry though. Edwards was running his mouth after the game, and apparently Porter and Holmes jumped all over your 60th anniversary logo at midfield after the game.

I'm definitely looking forward to the prime time game here in a few weeks.

Can you explain to me what is going on with Roethlisberger? I've been following him since Findlay High School and I don't get why he suddenly has the mental capacity of Tim Couch. Bad throw, bad throw, bad throw, best throw I've seen from him. bad throw, bad throw. That's his MO.

I think it's a combination of he's had a rough year, his offensive line throws more "look out" blocks than I ever thought an NFL team could, Holmes runs the wrong route all the time, Wilson and Washington cannot catch the ball consistently and do not improv the way El and Burress could, the Steelers have the worst average starting postion in the league, and I think he's developed an "I'm Ben" complex on the football field where he thinks he cannot be stopped.

Definitely agreed, especially about the defense. We'll see how they play once Merroids gets back though.

I play 15/pt for rushing and receiving, 33/pt for passing. 5 pts for TDs.

so before the Bengals game in Week 10, Chad Johnson demanded the ball. Well, 17 catches, 450 yards and 5 touchdowns later 8 quarters later, you all think he's a little happier?

And I didn't see any mention of Drew Brees 510 yards while scoring only 16 points in a 15 point loss to Johnson and his team a week after they scored 41 and lost.

The Bengals have displayed ridiculous offensive fireworks while allowing the same on the other side of the ball.

Our schedule wasn't that bad.
I mean, we got creamed by the Chiefs and Bears.

But, I was expecting to sweep the Rams, which actually may be in question now.
Split with the Cards.
Beat the Lions and Packers.
Then some random other game, that's 6.

We still have to play the Saints and the Broncos. So there's 2 losses.
I don't think we can beat the Seahawks in Seattle though.

i don't know. i'd almost argue that their comebacks make them look better. but i suppose if you're that good, you shouldn't be down by 17 points in the first place. hmmm...let's see.

1. chargers - they look ridiculous right now. lt is unstoppable.
2. bears - i thought they'd lose at least two on this road trip. i stand corrected.
3. colts - exposed? probably not. everyone was waiting for them to lose, anyways.
4. ravens - their defense is stupid good. that's all there is to it.
5. tie: cowboys and pats - yeah, i'm gonna be a biased fan here. with the third best d in the league and the third or fourth highest scoring offense, the boys look really good right now. the pats lost two in a row, but then killed green bay. but let's be honest, who wouldn't have beat the piss out of green bay on sunday? huge game coming up against the bears.

A poem:

BRADY

Brady, you're my QB in tight pants
And I love you
You're the starter in my fantasy
League for two

Brady, there are so many ways
I want to catch your passes
Won't you throw me something softly
Down the field?

Your cleft chin makes me such a fool
Your eyes captivate
And though you have good protection
Won't you just throw me a ball?

I'm a tight end, but I hope to one day
Be your wide receiver
How I long for you to hit me
In the slot

Forever, let there be two-a-days
When we can play together
Let me hear you call your audibles
In my ear

On the field I see no one else but you
There's no other player for me
And yes, I want to help you reach completion
You're rated highest in the league

Brady, your balls are the only balls I need
In my end zone, is where I want you to be

Cause Brady, there's a touchdown I want you to throw
You're the QB of my life, you're my Brady.

Like I said, that's classy of you. Why even mention it. I don't come here and put down all the teams I don't like, what's the point?

You don't even mention how your team is up 21-0, you're just focused on talking shit about the Patriots..

I'm not mad, I just find it humerous and pathetic the way you are.

If I had gone into the MLB thread during a Yankees game against for example the Mariners, and just gone "Here's to the Ms beating up the Yankees cause I hate the Yankees" you woulda freaked out. Don't be a hypocrit. Practice what you preach when you tell me to worry about my team. Why don't you do the same.

I do, because you HAVE done that. :lol

In the past you have told me to just worry about the Red Sox and stop just bashing the Yankees. It's a fact. Nice try though. Why can't you practice what you preach?

Anyways, Seau has been a monster this year, and he'll be out for a while. Hopefully he can come back for the playoffs and win a championship.

I think the Bears get back in this game if Grossman can actually hit one of those deep balls. That seems to be their M.O. Hit the deep balls, get the points, D does the rest.

Anyone else here hate Aikman and Buck on the sticks?

They are COMPLETELY worthless.

I like Aikman's subtle criticizing of the Pats replacing their grass with turf like when Brady threw a pick, Aikman goes "maybe it was because of the new turf." Sounded like he was trying to say that they blamed their last weeks poor play on the grass which is why they changed to turf.

Does that make sense?

That said, Aikman is a fucking idiot along with Joe =Buck, and everyone knows I don't like him.

This Pats game SHOULD be 17-3, but it;s not and it's not ONLY cause of the refs.
