he looked great? preseason...he threw 5 passes. lets reserve judgement for the regular season.
He was sharp though and he ran for a touchdown... It was like night and day as soon as Kyle Boller stepped into the game...

That's not really a fair assessment. I could step in, 3 weeks after my ACL surgery, and have more success than Kyle Boller. The only positive thing you can say about him is that he's saying remarkably healthy; which is a bad thing for Ravens fans. McNair will be an improvement, but it's like a bandaid when you need stitches. it's just not the answer.

The Ravens have weapons for McNair as well... D. Mason is one of the most underrated in the league IMO and he has a great connection with McNair.. Clayton really started to come on towards the end of the year and he is a tremendous talent... Jamal Lewis is fully healthy again this year and had an offseason where he wasn't sitting in jail... I also think it will help that there is a 1000 yard rusher from last year sitting on the bench if Jamal Lewis screws up... The biggest question on the offense is the line and that is where McNair comes in... McNair is experienced enough to know when to get rid of the ball... He is also more mobile than Boller and isn't going to try and force something... Bmore already has a great defense, not as good as the past but still a defense that can cause turnovers and change the momentum of a game... If McNair stays healthy, I feel that the Ravens will make the playoffs...

Jamal Lewis is the only offensive weapon I'll agree with you, there. He'll have a gigantic year, last year he just didn't have his feet back yet. Clayton came on at the end of last year at the same time Boller did, but you're not praising Boller? Mason isn't underrated by anyone that's seen what he's done. But, he's very quickly at the point where most WRs will see a decline. Any team in the AFC north has the potential to take a playoff spot and I'll still stick to my guns and say that any team in the AFC North has the potential to win the division. They're all extremely talented and have glaring holes that have been taped over for the short term. Now, if the Browns could just keep a god damn center on the roster.

The Browns are a year away from competiting Ryan. I like the optimism, but they're a year away. I think there are very few teams in the league that could make the playoffs playing their schedule.
Pittsburgh (2), Cinci (2), Baltimore (2), Carolina, Denver, San Diego, Atlanta, Kansas City, Tampa Bay.

I hate you and your fucking realism. Not looking at their schedule, if LeCharles Bentley isn't lost for the year, 3 time previous Rookie of the Week - Charlie Frye, has some major offensive weapons with Jurevicious, Braylon, and KWII. Not to mention the return of the first Browns 1000 yard rusher since 300BC. The defense has a phenomnal coach and a ton of young talent. Injuries have once again played a big part in shaping the defensive backfield, which is a very very good unit, and has been though of as a top 10 by many different magazines. Nothing short of a Super Bowl will earn the Browns any respect. So, I guess that evens out with me being an Irish fan.

I just looked at all the teams in the AFC North's schedules and Baltimore got the easiest one. After looking at them I'm starting to think only one team will make the playoffs, and I can't see the Ravens winning the division.

Did anyone else see this? What a joke. I'm not sure what cross-over they were thinking about, 'cause I don't know anyone who really likes football, that really likes Pink.
NEW YORK (AP) — Pink, the Grammy Award-winning singer known for her single Get the Party Started, has recorded the opening music for NBC Sunday Night Football.
"We chose Pink as the signature voice because she is a tremendous talent with a crossover appeal that makes her relevant to all segments of our audience," said Fred Gaudelli, who will produce the Sunday night broadcasts for NBC.
Pink has created Waiting All Day for Sunday Night, set to Joan Jett's I Hate Myself for Loving You, with new lyrics, NBC said Wednesday.
"A football fan knows the anticipation of waiting all day for the big game. When you hear this song on Sunday nights, you'll know the big game is about to kick off," Gaudelli said in a statement.

Academy Award-winning composer and music director John Williams, the Academy's most nominated living person with 45 nominations, and an 18-time Grammy Award-winner, has composed the new theme music for "NBC Sunday Night Football," and NBC's "Football Night in America" studio show, it was announced today by Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Sports & Olympics and Executive Producer, "NBC Sunday Night Football."

This artical did mention that as well, but I get the impression he'll be doing the 'background' music as they go to and come back from breaks. Where as Pink's song is going to be their version of "Are You Ready for Some Football" music used for MNF.

Ya, I have no idea. I'm mean really, I don't see any "cross-marketing" or "mass-marketing" brain storms on this one. It's almost as bad as a few years ago when MNF had a new group/singer doing 'Are You Ready for Some Football' each week. That was a really bad idea.

:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow He looked great for the first 45 minutes of the game. I don't think he made more than maybe 1 or 2 bad decisions until the wheels came off in the 4th quarter. Let's just say I feel much better with him at the helm rather than Jay Fiedler, Damon Huard, or Gus Frerotte. Being a lifelong Fins fan, I'm much more optimistic about this season than any in a long time. We were in it up until 8-9 minutes into the 4th quarter. Pitt's D is nasty though. Good game. Being a lifelong Fins fan, I'm much more optimistic about this season than any in a long time. We were in it up until 8-9 minutes into the 4th quarter. Pitt's D is nasty though. Good game. Congrats to Pitt.
If I was a dolphins fan... I would be REAL optomistic about this season. Daunte to Chris. Holy god. I think Chris is hands down up there with the best deep threats in the game with TO, Randy, and Chad. Chris is SO dirty.

i'm not a Steelers fan by any stretch of the imagination, but if you want to blame anyone for the Dolphins loss, blame Culpepper. he's got weapons and potential in that offense, but he's got to stop playing scared if they're going to have a chance...

Lmao @ all the Dolphins hype. Crap-pulper is picking up right where he left off, throwing horrible game changing (in this case ruining) interceptions. Booker was out so Daunte couldn't exploit the defense due to a lack of outstanding receivers to bail him out. Yeah, I love giving him that tag. Eat it and love it.

he underthrew several balls last night too. I remember on the first 3rd down of the game, he wasn't even being pressured, but he hit ronnie brown with a 2 yard dump pass when they needed 10 yards. Just poor decisions, and his interceptions were really, really bad.

Miami's defense deserves more blame than Culpepper. If they don't learn how to stop the big play it could be a long season.
Dolphins fans got an inflated sense of their team thanks to beating the Pats last year. Or, some of the Pats, anyway. They thought so little of the Dolphins they allowed an old fogie to attempt a drop kick rather than going for a tie.
Hopefully when the losses start to pile up the Dolphins fans will be knocked down a peg or two where they belong. Culpepper isn't a savior, he's a curse, and the Dolphins aren't a playoff team, they're another mediocre .500 franchise.

If you think the Pats win is why Dolphins fans are optmistic about this season you couldn't be more wrong.
What other reason do they have? Dante Culpepper? The man's a fraud. Ricky Williams? Oops. A strong 6-game run to end last year against teams that worked out to have a 36-60 record (26-54 without the Patriots, who mailed in the last game)?
UNC41

1. Nick Saban. Just the attitude around the team is completely different, and better, with Saban running things than Wanny. It's night and day. You live in the Northeast, so I'm sure you are familiar with the huge impact a coach can make on a NFL team.
2. Culpepper playing in a system very similar to when he was without question the third best QB in the NFL during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Couple this with him playing along side pretty much the closest thing in the NFL to Randy Moss and it's reason to feel good about Culpepper.
3. Not having to play the toughest schedule in the league like the past two years.
4. A six-game winning streak to end last season. The win over the Pats during that streak is not why fans are optmistic. Six games is six games in the NFL, regardless of who it's against, and when it turns around a 3-7 team fans are going to get excited. You should expect that.
Does that work for you? And Ricky Williams? I'm far more excited that he's not with the team so Ronnie can be turned into a feature back, so you really didn't have say whoops there. Because he is a reason.

I'm glad DaUnte (there's a U in there folks) is our QB and its going to take some time to readjust. His play will improve and he'll start hitting his targets, you can count on that. Super Bowl this season for the Fins? Doubtful. But you bet your ass they have a good shot at the playoffs.
As long as we get a "legit" win against the Pats and Jets this year I'll be happy. We played very well last night against the defending champs and only a few MAJOR mistakes led to our demise. Saban will correct that because he is a badass (almost Jack Bauer style :twenty4).

Strong comeback game for Pennington today. As a Jet fan, thats a big relief. He took a few licks and bounced right back up. His arm looked better today than it did any other time pre-injury. Ghost penalties had nothing to do with Eli not spiking, Shockey running back INbounds after a catch on the sideline, Toomer falling INbounds while he could have very easily fallen out and a very legit penalty that cost them 10 seconds.
I'm not negating the fact that the ghost penalty killed the game for the Giants, but that was a sorry display of football in that last drive.

Exaggerrated for emphasis due to all the offseason matter-of-factly chatter that the Bears still had the worst offense in the league, Grossman was a bust (but obviously I still have to reserve his brittleness until he takes a season of hits), and their offense was bad because of everything besides what the real problem was: a 4th round rookie starting qb that excercised maybe a quarter of the playbook.

Bears fans think this, but others wonder how you can anoint someone with a 72.3 career quarterback rating as the team's savior. And if he fails, they have their plan B in Griese. I just don't understand how people still think it is the same Kyle Orton offense of last year, despite the upgrade of Grossman/Griese at the QB position. Please excuse the interruption.
The sound you are hearing is the screaming of the women and children caught on the burning Dolphins Bandwagon. At approximately 2:30 PM EDT, the wheels came off (which were never attached well to begin with) to the surprise of only Dolphins fans and "experts" that felt it fashionable to stop picking the Patriots on the AFC East.
Details to follow, but it appears the accident occurred when too many fans pinned their hopes on the corpse of Daunte Culpepper, collapsing his already barely-existant chances of becoming an NFL quarterback again.
Pass protection is far more of a problem than Daunte is right now.

Honestly, I think Chicago has three below average quarterbacks on their roster right now. I also think the defense will be very good this year, but asking them to do what they did last year might be a little much because that D was insane.

I just find it humorous how "elite" Daunte is, and yet how Grossman is just another "Florida QB".
Two more weeks, as the games get bigger. Minny next week will be another good test. And then the Sunday Night showdown with Seattle will be the real barometer for Rex to really see if he's the guy we've been waiting for in Chicago.

You use quotes around those words like I actually said them. As a Dolphins fan I never said they have an elite QB in Culpepper, but one who was an elite in a similar system he was in two and three years ago. As for Grossman, I've said he's a guy who Bears fans anointed as a savior when he hasn't proven shit. He's beginning to prove that and earning my respect week by week. But, if there's any more words you'd like to put in my mouth feel free to.

When did Bears fans annoint him as their savior? I guess you didn't hear how he was being booed throughout the entire preseason and the media was chanting "Start Griese" day in and day out? I was at the Chargers game and I couldn't believe all the fans around me. Booing anytime there was even an incompletion. And then nonstop cheering of Griese for successfully completing a handoff.
And yeah, I guess I shouldn't have used quotes, as I wasn't referring directly to you about it. Just the board and media at large that forgot how horrible Daunte was last year without Moss those first 5 or 6 games.

Maybe it's not Bears fans as a whole, but one of my best friends and his two brothers preached it all summer. He's looked very good this year, along with the whole team, and I'm excited to see him challenged against Minnesota next weekend. The Vikings D looked excellent today.

The general consensus was that Griese was preferred over Grossman around Chicago. I thought this was such a joke, especially with Bears fans normally being great fans. While, I'm a Grossman hater, he's only played 4 games or something and never had the opportunity to do anything. They'll love him after his performance today.

We fought back like hell. It was a fun game to be at because it got really really exciting down the stretch and if you're a Jets fan, you know they aren't going anywhere this season, so all you pray for are good football games. And this was one of them.
I've been a Jets season ticket holder since birth, they've been in my family since they played at Shea. Maybe I'm being a bit bias or homerish, but I'm going to make a statement, and tell me if I'm wrong:

yeah, the Eagles dominated the first half....and the Giants dominated the fourth quarter.
But, i'm not that lame, I'm not gonna argue if the Giants won the game or if the Eagles lost the game.
Bottom line is, it was a great comeback victory for the Giants. 0-2 would have been killer. For someone who got sacked 8 times, Eli still played great in the 4th and OT. Defense was big when it had to be, stopped them on 4th and 1. Recovering the fumble to get back the ball. And recovering the Burress bloop and turning it into a TD. And what does Burress do to make up for the bloop? Makes a huge catch to win the game in OT.
Very happy tonight!

I think you're looking too deep into one game. Good teams can have bad games against bad teams and vice versa. Last week, was a case where one of the best teams in the NFC (Seattle) struggled against one of the worst (Detroit). A slim margin of victory in one game doesn't change the stature of those two teams in my mind.
That being said, right now I'd have to say your frontrunners in the NFC are, in alphabetical order, Atlanta, Chicago and Seattle.

J-Pep was absoutely sick today. His stat line read 8 tackles, 3 sacks and a blocked field goal. He was also about a half second away from sacking Johnson on the dump off to Williamson that turned into the big gainer during OT. If Peppers put all his physical tools to good use he'd be hands down the best defensive player in the league.
