I've been contemplating buying an acoustic guitar lately and was looking for some brand suggestions and whether i should go with an acoustic or an electric acoustic to start out with, and I'd like to find a decent one for under 300, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you gone to stores and demoed some guitars? Which ones did you like? Perhaps if you tried some to see what you'd like, we can give some more focused advice. Also, what kind of music do you play? Do you want an acoustic/electric? Is your $300 firm, or can you go up a bit (that can make a big difference).

This has been discussed before, so, I'm assuming you've searched and want some more personalized advice. :)

Try checking out Ovation they've got a decent one at $300 that's electric/acoustic. I've had mine for a few months and have no complaints. But get something that is comfortable to play for you, so try them out at that price range and see.

First, read the other threads in this forum.

Then, check out Seagull and Blueridge guitars in the entry-level price range. There isn't more guitar in the world for the money. That said, they still might not be right for you, so play everything!

I think that you should get a Taylor Big Baby. They go for about 540, but when they go on sale, you can get them for less than 300. I have one, and I think its pretty good. When ever people hear me playing it, they think that it has a pretty good sound to it.
