View Full Version : No SPAC 07?

Now that thing have cooled down from summer, I remembered for some odd reason today that Dave said they probably will not be going to SPAC for the 07 tour since their contract was up after this past concert. That was the first Dave concert I went to and the closest to my house. Is it true that he won't be goin there next year??? That would suck.

I think it's safe to say that SPAC would be one of the last 5 venues that DMB would drop. Also, not sure how Red Light does things, but most bands don't sign contracts for multiple years. Each year's show is done on an ad hoc basis I would imagine, thus, there's a new contract every year, with riders and various other good stuff.
The only possible, and I stress remotely possible, reason I could see the band not doing SPAC is if they did Bethel Woods (www.bethelwoods.us). I think they'd cut out Scranton before SPAC, tho...or Randalls. Bethel Woods is a chill place, not to mention it's at the original woodstock site...it's just a matter of time...in any event I highly doubt they'd replace SPAC with Bethel.

Aww, come one man. Don't be sayin that. Montage Mountain is like 15 minutes from my house. I don't think they would be cutting Scranton this fast anyways. They've only played two shows there, and they were the first sell out ever on the mountain. Theres a lot of fans around here that can't travel to places like Darien Lake, Hershey, or Burgettstown.

I did Scranton 05...energy level was sick, but they need to work out some logistics issues (which they may have remedied in the mean time...I don't know) like having one road out from the slopes and the bathroom situation...not to mention the cops being a little overzealous. I'd hate to see it go, it really is a nice venue. On the bright side, Bethel is only about an hour and 45 from Scranton if that did happen...so it wouldn't be nowhere near the distance to Darien, Hershey, or Pittsburgh...actually Bethel is closer to Scranton than any other venue. I'll definitely be back to Scranton, tho...great place. Just remind me to get premier parking and my own portajohn.

I caught CSNY at Bethel....sick place, one of the chillest, calmest, tranquil vibes I've ever been to...never been to Darien but I have a new rule since Hershey: I avoid all venues that are attached to something, that is to say, an amusement park or something along those lines. The main purpose of the venue must be for entertainment. Whiel a day in the park is nice, honestly, fuck that. Little old for riding rides...roller coasters don't do much for me anymore, bla bla bla...stoned ramblings of the stone man.

I was at Scranton this year as well, and getting out wasn't that bad. It was two lanes out, one in (for the shuttle busses and emergency vehicles). Once I finally got out of the parking lot, I was off the mountain in like 10 minutes. I was home an hour after the show ended. As for the cops, well they are trying to look after people from the area known for having the best St. Patrick's Day in the country. People from here love their alcohol as much they love their mothers. And theres a REALLY easy solution to the bathroom problem- piss before the concert and don't empty your wallet on beer, then you won't have to go.:)
And where is this Bethel place?? I never heard of it before, but that would be sweet (for me anyways) if they played both there and Scranton, along with Hershey.

there is a good chance darien may not be played anymore by anyone, it is for sale and there are rumors that it is going to close. they closed earlier this year than usual and Six Flags isn't making enough profit there anymore. if they do close Darien i hope they add a 3rd night @ SPAC

I am not the reason this thing started, i just came in here and made the broad general statments both sides make about both places to be an ass :p. I have mediated my fair share of these dumbass threads about which is better.
While i do think Alpine a great its cause its my hometown venue and i have an amazing time there. Same thing goes for SPAC, it truley does have a great atmosphere. Neither one is better, and they usally switch off on amazing setlists that contrast beautifully. I would honestly be sad to see SPAC not on the tour list next year, its a staple venue lik eAlpine Gorge The Wrold, Hershey Denver so on so forth.
Sorry the sarcasm didnt come across so well. Im really not an asshole :cool
EDIT, and i have no idea where all this shit started, ive been here since 02 and cant remember where the hell this all came down, tis prob some stupid rivalry that two people had and some other person decided to get everyone all riled up about.

I know people who work there and i live about 20 min from there. Six flags itself might close but the venue will most likely stay. I also have herd that the old owner or someone who is in his family wants to buy it back. But i guess most likely the place isn't going to sell and they are just going to sell the rides but will still have concerts there. I really only go to darien because i live around there. Otherwise it is the worst place to see a concert and i would take toronto or spac over it anyday. I would love to see that extra night added to spac or even make toronto a 2 night stand.

I will once more state my master plan- CUT ALL 1 NIGHTERS! Cut Darien, make SPAC 3 nights and Toronto 2. Have the "big" venues be 3 nighters (SPAC, Alpine, Gorge, and something in the south/southeast). If everything is 2 nights, the band won't get as lazy and will need to mix things up. That's why second half '06 got stale... it had 14 one nighters. There was no need to mix it up, because the venues were far enough apart so that no one would notice standard setlists.
So:
4 3-nighters (SPAC, Alpine, Gorge, and something in the south [Texas/Florida?])
20 2-nighters
For a 52 night tour.

The Road crew made a line on there site after the spac shows this past year saying that it was one of there favorite venues to go to and look forward to going back every year. So i think if they do cut spac it is gonna be a shock, and plus if they dont do spac they will do something in that Capital District area which would mean the Times Union Center (Pepsi Arena) would get probably one show. BUT that probably wont happen cause it is not even close to the same feel as SPAC. Plus Why would they leave a venue that rarely sells out and they have sold out at least one night and sloe on the others for at least 2 or 3 year i think?
On the point that they may go to 3 nights may be very possible but i dont think in 07 but possibly in 08 or 09. I think that they will stay 2 nights next year, but i wouldnt be shocked if they went 3 but i dont think this year.
Now I know bethel is on the original spot were woodstock 69 was held but is it new? or how long has it ben there. Cause i could see the way people talk after Darien Lake that it is the greatest spot in the world for a concert and if it is close to Bethal than it may be a good possibility that there may be a swap with darien lossing its show and Bethel picking it up.

Yes, construction was completed this year with the grand opening. The NY Philharmonic is in the process of making it their home venue (if they haven't already, not sure what's going on with that). This year saw CSNY play on the woodstock anniversary to a sold out, sick, sick, sick, show. Bethel is in the southern part of the state, Darien in the western part, so no, they're not even close. There are 4800 seats under the contemporary style ampitheater roof and room for 12,000 on the lawn, making it a mid-sized venue. However, like SPAC and Alpine, they can pack more in on the massive lawn...plus the whole Woodstock thing. Most shows will be small though. Great acoustics at this venue, less than 2 hours from NY, Scranton, Albany, Binghamton, Poughkeepsie, CT and MA...the scenery is beautiful and one major downside is that they are still working out logistics issues like traffic and the like.

ok cool thanks that clears up alot i didnt know and i can see why they would need to work with the traffic issues cause i blieve it s a 2 lane road goin in there and they would be alot of issues with traffic. But still i think Darien may have or will see its last show, because i just cant see the band going to a place where the fans arent crazy about. Plus i think they would love to play at a place with the history at it like bethel has from what i have read.
And i know this thread is bullshit i just wanted to put my opinion out there cause it brings up a interesting idea that SPAC may have a 3rd date coming to them in the near future. I just dont know when exactly.
What do you guys think? do you think they will get a 3rd day and when do you think it may happen?
