Sat / Mar 10 / Paradiso / Amsterdam, Holland

I am banking on making this one. The only issue is $$$, but I think I can swing it by cutting out my Dave shows for the summer. It's during my Spring Break, will have to miss a couple of days of school to allow for transit but it should be a good time.

It sucks that tickets will not be available via Warehouse to U.S. members, but it is only fair I suppose. The European fans deserve priority on the tickets since they are Dave Deprived. If anyone has any general on-sale info please share.

Who's going? Who wants to go? Discuss.

Also, discuss general ways to pass time and interesting things to do in Amsterdam. Eventually it would be nice to set up an Ants gathering once we determine who is going.

Peace.

i think i might be able to go

That's awesome right there.

I'm just going to throw this out there because I'm not sure of the answer. I've heard that you can only smoke in coffee shops in Amsterdam and that elsewhere it is frowned upon. Now, I know smoking isn't confined entirely to coffee shops, there has to be massive overflow. But would it be alright if I just, I don't know, burned a fatty while watching the show? I mean, I usually do that anyway...but with one eye open to the detractors. Is it kosher? The last thing I want to do is get arrested overseas -- that would suck royally. Anybody know the deal?

superfint
11-09-2006, 05:25 AM
I don't think you can smoke anywhere(Example:Nightclubs,etc)
Prob ok at the Venue, and outside is no problem.
Seen John Mayer at the Melweg in Amsterdam last month & i asked a security guy was it ok to Lite up a Jay & he said "Do what you want"!!!

On ticketmaster.nl, it says they go on sale at 11:00 on Saturday, so i'm pretty sure that means they go on sale at 4:00 AM here...since we are 7 hours behind the Netherlands, in Minnesota, so 6 hours for you Eaterners.

I'm just gonna stay up/wake up and try buying them then.

Hello late-nighters/early birds. I got lucky and snagged one. I think we crashed the Netherlands Ticketmaster there for awhile; I kept getting a "too many users" error. But then I got in. Now it looks like it's sold out; wow, they went quick. Whoever got tix, I'll see you there! Looking forward to meeting some international DMB fans.

So, where did the 1200 tickets go? In 5 minutes, no way, I guess there must be more being released, surely.... please! Off to Brussels which was easy to get tickets for and wanted to road trip to Amsterdam. Have tickets for myself from warehouse, but got 3 others in the car I needed tickets for, sure I was on there just after 10am too... or maybe I wasn;t, it was 10am here, so 11am there... still, none of the UK shows sold out, how is Amsterdam so quick? I say more tickets will be coming, they must be... if not, anyone got any extras? I'll get you some space cake! aye! :)

I guess one of the reasons this show got sold out so freaking fast is the fact that it is allowed to smoke the good stuff in Amsterdam (Dave likes it, we like it;)) - I just hope the crowd wont be too far "away" - it could ruin the atmosphere of the show if people ended up being rude towards Dave and eachother just like Apollo, London in may

you won't get arrested, but it IS frowned upon when you smoke a lot at public places and bother people doing so.

smoking weed (or 'blowen' as we call it) is really the same as drinking a lot of alcohol: you can do whatever the hell you want, as long as you don't do it 'in our face'. so try and consider us locals when you're over here and you'll be fine :)

I only know a wee bit of the city, pretty regular visiter i am! :)

You can que up early but The WH said in an email that for the shows that are standing,PPL who requested tickets Via the WH will get in first(Probably a seperate Que) i think.More info to come on that it also said in the email.

well from what i have gathered from my hippie mom when she was there in the 70s is that it is an intimate venue of like 1200 people or so. There is a okay sized floor area with some balconies that are close to the stage.

as for getting up front, I know that WH members are getting in early or will have a special spot at the venue. For me, I am going to have to figure out when the show starts and such before i make my decision on what I will be doing

So, I received my huge tickets for the Paradiso show. I've read through this whole thread and while I understand that people want to line up early, I sure hope people won't waste a whole day waiting in line. Having frequented Amsterdam quite a bit, there is too much to offer to just waste a day sitting around. I do plan on showing up a couple hours before we get let in, but face it, anyone who has a ticket to this intimate venue is gonna get a great view. I'm excited as can be for this show, and I hope to run into a few of you over in the Dam!

Who else is making the show the night before in Brussels? My family is from there, and all I've heard is great things about the AB.

I'm excited as can be for this show, and I hope to run into a few of you over in the Dam!

Who else is making the show the night before in Brussels? My family is from there, and all I've heard is great things about the AB.

I'm doing Offenbach, Brussels, and Amsterdam. We should meet up at the AB, it does look cool. Do you have an extra ticket for Amsterdam? I have everything booked and all other tickets but still need a single for Amsterdam. See you in Europe!

I agree I dont see the point of getting there too early in such a small venue no matter where you are you will have a great view etc.

Is there anyone going it alone? I really, really, REALLY want to do this thing, and as the OP I feel somewhat obligated to do so. Problem is, I can't get any commitments from the real world. It's during my spring break, how awesome would that be. All I'm looking for is reliable people to meet up with or better yet some traveling companions at some stage of the trip. I just got my passport in order the other day and I am so ready for this. Anyone?

you won't get arrested, but it IS frowned upon when you smoke a lot at public places and bother people doing so.

smoking weed (or 'blowen' as we call it) is really the same as drinking a lot of alcohol: you can do whatever the hell you want, as long as you don't do it 'in our face'. so try and consider us locals when you're over here and you'll be fine :)

Yep, that's right. For you (others than Dutch) it may be heaven to smoke your mind off, but don't spoil your own evening too by getting too stoned (or too drunk) and miss the show. I'm not sure if Dave is going to get a smoke, but i hope he will keep it for after the show.

Another point, there's absolutely no need to queue up so early. You'd better enjoy the visit. There's plenty of possibilities for a nice view and the Paradiso ain't that big.

The show will start at 20:30 local time. I don't know if there will be a supportact...
The doors will open at 19:00.
You will have to buy a membership (€ 3,-) at the door.

I am very very very excited about these shows. It will be my first chance to see Dave.
I'm going to see Amsterdam, Brussels solo and the Brussels DMB show.

How many dutch fans read this forum?
Hope to meet some DMB fans at the concerts....

I agree that we need to set something up. Its gonna be hard seeing as we dont know the area, wont have use of our cell phones, and everyone will be arriving from different areas. We do need some help here on this one. It would be good tomeet up at a pub close to the Paradiso a few hours before start of show time. We will have to do something to make ourselves standout as well.....I.E. wearing a particular hat or having some kind of way of picking the fellow ants out of a crowd:confused :ugh

Well in my bordem during Sport Marketing, I have scoped some places out. There is nothing really noteworthy that I could find near the venue. I have however found a place that serves something like 200 beers!:thumbsup Place is named Gollem... My travel mate has also informed me that Amsterdam is not a very large city so we should be just fine!

As for the standing out issue, I dont think any of us Dave heads will have trouble finding each other :)

I don't think I'll have much time before the show to hang out with some of you guys, but I'll put in my input anyways. Since Paradiso is closest to the Leidesplein (I think that's spelled right), which is a sort of square with bars and such, I think the best place to meet would be the Bulldog. It is one of the rather famous coffeeshops in Amsterdam (with several locations citywide), and is easy to spot once in the square. It is right near the big Burger King, and the sign in pretty easy to spot. Having been inside this place numerous times when I stayed at the Uptown Flying Pig, I can say that it is a really cool place, and was once a police station. Hope this is a start...

I have to respectfully disagree about the Bulldog. I have been to Amsterdam a couple of times and can tell with certainty that the Bulldog Palace situated in Leidesplein is a tourist trap. Their drink prices are ridiculous and their herb selection is also substandard and overpriced. While it is is a great idea to meet at a place near the Leidseplein as that is where the Paradiso is, in my opinion a better place for us to go would be De Rokerij. It is about a five minute walk from the concert venue and has a full bar with a large lounge area in the back. They are much more reasonably priced and have a amazing strains. Also located near the Paradiso are a Hard Rock Cafe and a large casino in case anyone wants to do some gambling. But again, these two places are also very expensive and tend to consist of mostly tourists. Just my two cents. I can't wait for this trip! :)

More than understandable. I just wanted to throw something out there, and I knew it would be some place people could find easy that would be close to Paradiso. Amsterdam has so many wonderful places to offer, it's hard to pick just one place to meet. I have been to De Rokerij, and it is quite nice. I still think the Grasshopper is the more touristy and overrated. If I remember correctly, the Dampkring is not that far a walk.....

as for the dorm style. I did that last April when I went to Hawaii to see the Kokua Festival and it was actually a lot of fun. Met a to of people from Europe and Austrailia. Just try and sleep with your stuff with you or you can lock it up from what i have heard

A lot of times management use section and row numbers for standing only shows to keep track of how many tickets are sold or to show the order in which tickets are printed. I'm positive the Paradiso show is standing, but if you have Warehouse tickets hopefully you will be able to get in line first. Envious....

Well first that sucks you cant get a ticket. This show will be crazy good. As for the obnoxious Americans, I think it is par for the course if you live in a city like Amsterdam. Plus if you got one, it is a GA show so you can sit next to whomever you like.

With that said, I really really really hope this show is not like some of the recent D&T shows which are a shame to listen to at points

My girlfriend just doesnt get it:ugh Either way we are all gonna have a blast. Update on a meeting spot and time???????? Im probably riding train in from Maastricht to spend the whole day. Its about a 2hr ride.... Was gonna drive, but ill probably be in what we like to call "rare form". :lol :D

x2. Though I may have a couple drinks before hand. Best time I had at a concert was the Blossom last year. I drank nothing but water and attended the show by myself. I just eat up the atmosphere and all of the different types of people surrounding me, and we all share this one common love for music.....

yeah I could not agree with you guys more than I do. I love getting a couple drinks and just doing what we do haha. My friends want to smoke pot and I wanna be clear as a bell. can't wait to soak up the atmoshpere with you guys!

On another note.. Have we gotten on a first name basis yet??

I be arriving in the Dam Thursday, and i actually hav a mate or 2 living there. One of them is coming back tomarrow to dublin for the Dave show,so i'll ask him to go to the Venue and see what Bars are around that are good.

Count me in as one of the 1200 who has a ticket (wow!). I exchanged emails with Mike a few weeks about meeting. I'm getting there on Friday afternoon. I'm seeing the Paris show on the 6th, so it'll interesting to compare with Amsterdam. I can't make the 10am "crawl", but would like to meet later in the day. I know the Paradiso is near Leidseplein square. But since I've never been to Amsterdam, so don't know any specific cafes/bars. Maybe meet in front of Paradiso sometime in the afternoon and go find something from there?

Am travelling from Devon UK with my wife to pick up my friend and fellow WH member from Southampton and then we're flying to the Dam to meet a friend that's flying in from Austria. So unbelievably excited about seeing Dave & Tim together, hope that the combination of good smoke and mellow vibes will discourage people from shouting out.

Will keep an eye on this thread and will try and meet up with people beforehand.

one thing we all must do is agree on a place to meet before the show for a group picture to post up here on ants. I say in the line outisde Paradiso would be the place. I will bring the camera. I would love the shot anyway.

A group photo is a must. I'm bringing a camera, too. I always sneak one in at DMB shows, so I'm guessing it won't be an issue this time unless there's full body search. Turn off the flash and go into stealth mode. And I'll bring an extra memory card for video clips.
