I don't know, there shoudn't be many Portuguese members in this forum....or am I wrong ?!

I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the news of DMB playing here in Lisbon. That's something I wasn't expecting !

I already requested 2 tix in The Warehouse, and now i'm really looking forward to December 11th to confirm if I got any !!

PS: I've been waiting for this show for 7 years now !!!

TimGuitarAlike
12-07-2006, 10:37 AM
how much did you pay?

number4ty1
12-07-2006, 10:52 AM
106 USD for 2 tix including all fees.

Well, actually I haven't payed yet, because the ticket confirmation is only known December 11th... But that's how much i'll pay if the tickets get awarded.

This show isn't gathering much excitment here at antsmarching !!!

Guess i'll have to ask some of portuguese pals to register !!!!

I am VERY excited about the show. I am going to come over from Michigan. I lived in Madrid and there's no way I can't go if DMB is so close to Spain. It's like a dream come true!

Have any of you been to the venue before? I wasn't sure which tickets to request so I went for the balcony 1. I would rather have the floor, but "general admission floor" made me nervous that I wouldn't get up close, and at least I could get Warehouse reserved in the balcony. It was hard to tell what the venue setup was like on their website...plus I don't understand portugese.

So will it be warm enough for the beach come the end of May???

I have similar questions. I'm from New York and I'm going to go over there for my honeymoon and going to the show our last day. I went for floor first and switched to balcony 1 because of your same concerns. Hopefully i won't get stuck on the other end of the stage. I can't imagine that many poeple from the Warehouse are going to be going, so they should have some good seats for the few people that put in requests.

Also, there is an English button on the top of the website. I went through the whole website and it's actually pretty informative. It had many detailed pictures of the arena, but there's no section #'s or anything? I wonder how we'll know where our seats are? Should be cool though!

Cheese927 & jvalenti, i'll try to reply to both of you in the same post.

1- Usually by the end of May you'll have average temperatures of 25 degrees celsius, which is already fine to go to the beach !

2- I'm going to general admission because I prefer so. But balcony 1 are the best seats on balcony.

http://www.pavilhaoatlantico.pt/site/resources/docs/SALAS/DOWNLOADS/nivel_Arena_ingl.JPG

As you can see from the plant in the link above, stage area is in front off #29, coming al the way up to the end of #2 and #9 Balcony 1 is usually in the areas that are marked with numbers 3,11,7 and 6. #7 and #3 are really nice spots, I've watched Linkin Park from #7 and it was very nice !

3- The venue holds up to 18.000 people, but if ticket requests are high it can hold about 20.000 - but iut gets kinda tight in GA Area!!!!! Last September Pearl Jam played for 40.000 in 2 nights !

4- Usually there's no seating request, so at the venue you will only have 4 entries: General admission, balcony one, balcony 2 and corporate seats. So its advised to go early so you can choose the best spot ! ;)

5- Since I ordered GA tickets, I don't know if there'll be a warehouse reserved area in balcony or not !

This is the best venue for concerts in Portugal (there are other very good venues but only for 5.000-6.000 people), apart from stadiums of course, and many great bands area playing there !
The day before DMB there's a Beyonce gig !!! :ugh

Hope to have been helpful ! Have Fun !

Thanks for all the info!

So basically it looks like it's general admission for the balcony sections too? That's weird, i've never seen a general admission area with seats. I guess i'll call the Warehouse when it gets closer to the show to see how early we can pick up our tickets at will call and enter the arena, etc.

Thanks again!

Oh yeah I'm coming from Virginia. I work for an airline and can fly roundtrip to London for a really good price and then I'll hop on Easyjet over to Lisbon. I've never been to Portugal and am going to need some assistance in finding a place to stay. I'm not trying to break the bank but I don't want a run down place either. Any help is appreciated!!!

I was actually looking at the Best western... only because it was the only name i recognized! but we're going over for our honeymoon, so we're talking to travel agents and trying to find some flight/hotel packages. It looks like parque das nações is kind of away from the main city, and we'd rather stay in the city and then just take a cab to the show. is that the case? thanks for your advice and help!

My crazy brother put in for all 4 shows...and was confirmed for all. I put in for london and ireland only- thinking the logistics might be too much for all four. Anyone else trying to make it for all 4? We'll be traveling from Chicago. It will be an adventure to say the least...Any advice would be appreciated.

good luck! i'm nervous enough just making it to lisbon. picking up tickets at will call and not having them in my hands after spending thousands of dollars going overseas is starting to freak me out.

also, does anyone know the deal with general admisson? i have balcony 1 but i don't have seat assignments... so if i have to go to the bathroom, could i loose my seats??? general admissson with seats would not work here in america. it seems like it would be chaos!

As for hotels, you can search for "Vila Galé Opera" that is close to the river in the Alcantara neighbourhood.

Check here:

http://www.vilagale.pt/index.php?lingua=2

More inside central Lisbon, you have Sofitel, Tivoli, Sana Hotel and Fenix (fenix is most likely the cheapest one). There's also a Mercure near the zoo, a Comfort Inn in the "entrecampos" area and a Holiday Inn (close to a strip joint and a prostitution area for the one's interested !!!!!! LOL )

Near the venue there's the Melia Hotel, Tivoli Rio and Art Hotel !

There's also a charm hotel in the heart of Lisbon, altghough a bit "aging" which is Avenida Palace.

But basically, look in your travel agent for a 4 star in one of these areas:

- Marques de Pombal
- Saldanha
- Avenida da Liberdade
- Campo Grande
- Campo Pequeno
- Avenida da Republica
- Avenida 5 de Outubro
- Chiado

And you'll be central and well settled in !

it usually works well !

Just need to check in a little earlier, and it will be fine.

If you need to go to the restrooms just ask whoever's beside you to save your seat ("Guarda-me o lugar se faz favor, enquanto eu vou à casa de banho" - Can you please save my seat while I go to the toilet), and there won't be a problem !;)

This hotel is more of a business hotel, but it's within your budget range and really centrally located !!

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review?geo=189158&detail=229869&from=HACSearch&inMonth=12/2006&inDay=15&outMonth=12/2006&outDay=17&adults=2&hs=hac01w:10023

You're really close to the subway, and you can take it to the venue of DMB's show !

The hotel is in between the "Avenida" and "Marques de Pombal" subway stations (Blue line) and the venue 3 minute walking distance to the "Oriente" station (Red Line)

Monarch operates flights from Gatwick to Lisbon and I believe that they're cheaper than easy jet.

I tried looking up a few of those places but no rooms are available on most, maybe because its too far in advance. Basically, I'm looking for a room fairly close to the venue (within walking distance or cab/train) and within an area with lots to do or at least close by (bars etc). We want to spend about $50-70/night. Monarch airlines ends up being more expensive for us than Easyjet. Thanks for your help!!!!

Per room. I have found a few places that are about $70/night but I'm not sure how good they are. I found a deal that I can get with Marriott but its more than I wanted to pay.

I, too, was shocked to find that I had been confirmed for all 4 shows. I'm beginning the process for putting together my own travel package. This is another choice close to your price range !

You can also search for an Ibis, that is located in the same Avenue as this one, and belongs to the same hotel group.

Question for anyone that has been to this venue... i'd like to be able to sneak in a small digital camera. it's probably the only time i'll get to see DMB overseas and i'd like to take a few picture inside just for the memories. do you think that would be tough to do? do they check pretty hard for that stuff?
thanks!

Usually there are people with cameras ! I've never seen a fuss about it !

During a show you usually see lots of camera flashes, so I don't think there'll be a problem !

Last September I went to see Pearl Jam there, there were tons of people with cameras. I took my mobile phone that has a 2 Mpxl camera and took a lot of photos !;)

Does anyone need 2 tickets for the show? I bought 2 general admission Warehouse tickets and am having a hard time finding someone that needs a pair. According to the Warehouse, the person who buys the tickets should be a Warehouse member. If anyone is interested, I can call Warehouse and find out if they will let me sell them to a non-member.

Yeah the cost is just gonna end up being too much for me right now and I have some other things that have happened recently that make it difficult to make the trip. Believe me, I'm disappointed that I can't make it but hopefully I can make 4 or 5 shows here in the US. I really need to find someone to buy these tickets. They are General Admission and I think the Warehouse has a special line set up for members that allows quicker access to the floor.

...watching and waiting for good lax to dublin, and london to lax fares... :monkey

I am from LA and live in Dublin. Just watch Aer Lingus (www.aerlingus.com) for LAX to Dublin tickets. By that time they might be flying 5 days a week nonstop for reasonable prices. At worst they fly 3 days a week (Wed, Fri, Sun). You might want to consider just flying RT to Dublin and getting a connection from London to Dublin on the way home.

So what's the plan for before the show? Is everyone just going to show up early for the WH line? We ended up staying in the financial district (Sano Metropolitan) here in Lisbon just because of money (they let us have 3 people in the room for a minimal extra fee) and the general lack of time to explore the city properly. Might as well be close to the venue and airport. We were horrible Americans tonight and ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was more fun than the Hard Rock in Chicago, that's for sure. Any ideas on where to print out the ticket confirmation page if the hotel can't help us? Will getting a taxi after the show be impossible? Thanks in advance. - Anne

Any ideas on where to print out the ticket confirmation page if the hotel can't help us? Will getting a taxi after the show be impossible? Thanks in advance. - Anne

Me likes the Hard Rock in downtown Lisbon ! Just can't get enough of that apple crumble !! :thumbsup

Probably the hotel can help out with printing the WH info... but if it doesn't you can go to the shopping mall Vasco da Gama, just aside of the venue and go to this shop (Worten):

http://www.centrovascodagama.pt/mainsite/stores/stores_detail.aspx?ID=7997&menu=36&submenu=1

It is a shop for home devices, but it has (or at least, had) a copy center. If it doesn't do it for you, there's a Staples Center about 1,5 km away (that is about a mile).

You can get a taxi in the train station (Gare do Oriente) that is nearby the venue and the mall. Porbably there'll be a big line, which is usual after shows (15 to 30 minute wait)... My advice is for you to go get a drink after the show (there are plenty of bars by the river, about a minute walk from the venue), relax for a while and than grab a cab near the bars. There are usually cabs around bars/ nightclubs.

As for myself, i'm planning on arriving early and going to the WH line !! Wanna be front row-ish !!

Thanks for the printer info- I hope to meet you in the line. What time will you be there? We have general admission tickets for this show. Can you send your cell # to one of my email accounts? aallen4@juno.com. We will give you a call from the line, just in case you can't pick us out of the crowd. ha-ha. -Anne, Bill, and Steve

And yes, it would be funny if I'm there. I never feel like I'm "invested" in the show, and I never feel like they need to earn my money. If they come out and play all of Stand Up, and then play a greatest hits of the 80's set, I wouldn't be mad. It's not even good comedy though. The songs are attempting to be serious. If Dave actually just went the direction of making songs that didn't take themselves so seriously, I'd think it was funny.

Again, it's funny for us as American fans who know the difference. If any American flew over to Europe expecting an average show, let alone a good show, they are probably clinically retarted. It's been proven that DMB knows when they're playing for a different audience, and they fall back on "fun" songs (for them).

Basically what I'm saying, is no one should be surprised by any of this. This is Europe's first taste of Stand Up ever, and unless you caught DMB on the handful of previous stops in their history, probably your first show ever.

In the same hand, if anyone thinks this will carry over to the American tour, they also are far from thinking intelligently.

Alright, I agree with that. As an American fan who's seen some pretty great shows in my time, I'd at least like to say I saw one of the worst starts to a show ever.

And I'd just like to point out that I don't like saying the same things over and over again, which is why I haven't posted in a while. Do you think I really want to see DMB put out material I don't like just so I can bitch about it on a message board?

Obviously not. And if they do these kind of sets in America, I'd be right behind you in bitching. But the reason I've been saying everything I have is I know for a fact they won't, and that stems from the ongoings (or lack of) in the studio.

But hey, one of the three songs that were recorded is still in rotation, so maybe there's a chance.

Good call. I would never have thought that Tom Morello would have appeared with DMB. Then play on #41 to boot. So I guess I went with the songs that Robert Randolph has played on as safe bets for Morello.

I do like your idea of Rhyme with Morello though. He could take that song in so many different areas.

I've been focused on schools in Oregon/Washington for the last two years, but now I've been thinking that I should use school as a travel opportunity. I'm looking for Journalism, so that's what I'm looking for in that area.
