Is ground not as good or something??? For wome reason I think that would be better since you could get closer...

ground is a standing only area and it is first come first served as to where you get to be. If you want to be up front or beside the sound desk just get in early..
In the US all concert gowers need a seat but that is not the case in the point.
Have ground tix myself and looking forward to the whole band. Cant believe they are all coming. Was chuffed to see Dave coming but noe thrilled to see the full whack.

Been wrestling with the decision of whether this trip was affordable or not, and have decided today thanks to a friend who was willing to buy the tickets for the both of us that we're going to go. Can't believe the standing tickets are still available when the seating ones aren't... people like to sit down in Ireland fint? :p
Just got to sort the rest out, then we can head over come May :D

I have tix ground and I hope to be as close to the stage as I can.
I'm going with my brother and friend.
I'm sleeping on the airport :)
See you all!
Ps. What's the story with papers with setlist? Where and when can I get it? Before or after the show?

Good to hear your coming over Matt!!!Tis only accross the bond sure-be worth the trip!!
I got the impression off a girl in Ticketmaster that there was not many Standing Seats left-selling slowly now tho-will be a sellout for sure before May i think.
Matt-I love to Sit!!We irish are lazy!!!Or maybe am just getting old??!!
I'd rather Sit then stand at any gigs! The only gigs i will stand for are for Dave/DMB or Frames Shows!!

I spent the past weekend in Dublin and stayed at a hostel called 'Barnacles Temple Bar House'. You can find it on hostelworld.com. Fantastic location, right in the center of the Temple Bar area. At least a dozen pubs within 5 minutes walk. Maybe a 20 minute walk to the show. Prices are about $27 a night and up, and it's clean with a very friendly staff.

i'm coming to the show :) originally i was going with my sister and she wanted seats, so i bought tickets in the center of section B...i think the row is high enough that we'll be over the crowd, so at least will be able to see. i would've opted for standing myself, with a shot at being closer to the stage ;) and now she's not even going. /sigh
i'm going to be in ireland for around 9 nights, travelling all over it. i've always wanted to do that, so it was good timing. hopefully i can find someone to go with me, but if not, i'll go by myself!!
now to figure out which bar they'll be drinking in afterward... ;)

Hey all! As an American living in DUblin, All I can say is that I am pumped for this show! I just saw Dave and Tim the other night here and it was fantastic. After this tour, there are going to be a lot more fans in Ireland. I know I am doing my best to spread the word.
As for where to stay, anywhere in city centre is fine. Dublin is a very small city by US standards and most places can be walked to. Make sure you end up in Dublin 1,2 or 4.
Anyone going to be meeting up for this? I know I will be in line extra early.

So, question.
My travels are limited to the US, South and Central America.
For a show in the US, while most people have seats, few are sitting.
I know in south america, for some shows, people sit the entire time.
What should one expect in Ireland?

This is a bit funny to me since six months ago I was in the same boat. :lol
Dublin is on the east coast of Ireland so the ocean borders its east side. The river Liffey pretty much runs east-west through the center of the city deviding it into north and south. There is one main "city centre" that is on the river set more tword the coast. The city is broken up into sections that don't have too much consistency other than that the odd numbers are north of the river and evens south. The closest to city centre are Dublins 1 and 2. Dublin 4 is also pretty close and is the area most of the embassys are. Here is a map that breaks down the D#'s for you:
http://www.softguides.com/dublin/maps/centre.html
The airport is in the far northern part of the city. You will have to take a taxi (~€25 to city centre) or an airport coach (€7 www.aircoach.ie). There is no train to the city centre from the airport. I would suggest again to stay in D1, D2 or D4 so that you are walking distance to most tourist type attractions including the venue (about a 20 min walk). The area that is most touristy is the Grafton St. area located between St. Stephens Green and Trinity College. You can see that area here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=dublin,+ireland&layer=&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=15&ll=53.343557,-6.252637&spn=0.021829,0.066519
St. Stephens Green is like a mini Central Park. In May it should be very nice to walk through and hang out in given we get some sun. I have not lived here in May, but would guess the weather would be in the maybe upper 50's durring the day and low 50's to 40's at night. It could be warmer though. There is always the possibility of rain, but it usually doesn't rain too hard here.
Every place in town can be walkd to or you can take taxis which help find places you don't know too well. Street signs are on the sides of buildings about 12 feet up at the intersections. Signage compared to US cities is sparse, and street names change every few blocks, which can be confusing. You might ask someone where a street is and they have no idea.
I hope this help. Post up other questions if you want. Or or someone else will probably answer them if we can. I'm sure the locals know a ton more than me, but I figured the prespective of an American reletively new in town would be helpful.

Hi Sean
I live in Glasgow area and saw Dave perform with Tim Reynolds last weekend......what a gig that was, Dave was so funny he had the audience in stitches. We have tickets for the Dublin Gig and can't wat to see the band again, the last time was in Hartford CT on 31st August 2003, just before the great lawn gig in Central Park....bad timing really as i would have loved to have been at that gig.

man, this sucks. i'm even contemplating just going and missing a week of classes, but that would be really irresponsible. SIGH.

Spent last weekend in Dublin for St. Patty's. AMAZING CITY. Can't wait to go back for the show. A buddy and I walked all the way down to the point to check it out and maybe get a glimpse of the inside. Like a lot of buildings in Dublin, it had a huge fence around it unfortunately. Great city with great people...Temple Bar was a blast. I went to one of the hotels near the point (Jury's I think?) to check prices for that weekend. They wanted around 150 Euros a night...looks like i'll be staying in a Hostel. It has been to find a hostel very close to The Point, but thats alright cause most of the hostels are within reasonable distance from the busier downtown area it seems. I am going to try to book Jacobs I think. Anyway...i'm rambling. See you all there!

We've booked our hostel for around £15/pp/pn (we're going for a few days) which is located just outside Temple Bar, how far is Temple Bar roughly from The Point? Was under the impression it was a jog down the quay, but who knows :p

This is a late reply to the question of traveling to all 4 shows...my little brother, his friend, and I will be traveling from Chicago, spending a week in Ireland before the 23rd, then flying between all the shows. (I couldn't figure out if train passes would work for some parts of the trip...and I have a couple of college degrees.) Time is kind of tight too. We'd like to get a glimpse of each city before we grab those pre-show drinks. I'm starting to get excited...especially since the summer tour is delayed. I'll get my summer DMB fix right on schedule. -Anne

I'll be at the concert as well!
I've been a member of the board for awhile but mainly a lurker (With the occassional post to buy/sell tickets) anyway I just moved to Dublin for two years this past January. Luckily for me I live down the Quays (unfortunately on the other side of the river so it's a bit of a walk). I'm very happy the band is playing here this summer as it was going to be very odd not seeing them this year!
Does anyone want to meet up for a few pints before/after the show? There are a few places on the North side on the way to The Point.

Hi All Dublin goers! There are no bars/pubs close to the venue that would be recommended to drink in. The best bet is to drink in one of the bars in the IFSC (Irish Financial Services Centre) and then walk to the Point. It would be no more than a 15/20 minute walk. jacobs inn would probably be the best recommendation for a hostel. Its close to connolly train station, and Busaras(Main bus depot). Its also right beside the IFSC. These are all on the northside of the river Liffey. The southside of the river is where temple bar is and would be considered a nicer and livelier part of the city.
As for where the band stays, i would hazard a guess at one of the 4 top hotels in dublin. Morrison, Clarion, Westin or Merrion. It really could be any of them!
jaugusta

Another choice may be The Harbourmaster right near the last bridge there in the IFSC area... it has a fairly large seating area and they do pour a decent pint!

We will be in Ireland for a week before the show. Where are you staying the night before/of the show? We have 2 standing and 2 seats also. Only 3 people going so we aren't quite sure what to do. I hate to spend my vacation waiting in lines or "queing" or whatever its called in Europe. But if people aren't going to stand for the show from the seats then that will stink. I have never sat for a dave show- maybe just a song or two over the past 12 years when I drank too much...you know how it goes.:) We'd be happy to meet up before the show. - Anne, Bill, and Steve

We are flying in the morning of the show from Boston. Sad to say but I'm not even sure where we are staying :confused . (Ballsbridge area comes to mind!?!) That's the travel buddies job. Mine is to get in line early enough to get up front.....:) . We'd love to have some pints before the show, in hopes of waking up after our trip over. ok well to get something rolling i propose one of the following two bars in the IFSC.
1. The Excise Bar http://www.excisebar.ie/
2. The Harbourmaster http://www.harbourmaster.ie/
Both are walking distance of the Point and are close to each other. both do quite decent food if anyone needs or wants to eat, whether its straight after work or after an afternoon of Guinness

Both really look cool. Do you need to dress up for the excise bar? I do believe we are going to be relaxed in jeans and t-shirts for the whole trip. Easier to pack that way. What's the weather going to be like in Ireland next week? I'm not expecting anthing too great...until we hit Lisbon and the beach there.
Paulusmaximus
05-09-2007, 08:00 AM
don't really need to dress up for either, especially on a wednesday night. its really only niteclubs and late bars that you need to get ressed up for. The IFSC is large office blocks so is full of office people and suits so thats what the bars are tailored for but everyone is welcome and you definitely won't feel out of place.
Weather has been excellent for ireland over the past 3 weeks. Been little or no rain and temperatures ranging from 15-20C. There has been a little bit of change the last couple of days and been rain and a bit cooler, but hopefully it'll clear to the mild sunny days again next week. It is a great country Ireland, definetely. Whoever goes there won't regret.
I've been there in 2000 (man, that was a looooong time ago), and loved it. Dublin, Gallway, Limerick. Great towns, great people !

don't really need to dress up for either, especially on a wednesday night. its really only niteclubs and late bars that you need to get ressed up for.
You won't be packing shorts for here but it hopefully it should be t shirt weather. So, I have a question for those of you who seem to know the area - aren't there some bars inside the venue? Why wouldn't people just go there? Also, is it possible to get a taxi after the show?
If anyone is on myspace, I started a group (http://groups.myspace.com/DMBinDublin).

there are bars in the venue, but the door only open at 7 or so. plenty of drinking time prior to that!

First post from a DMB noob - Going to The Point to mind my little brother, who kindly hooked me up with some stuff to get a flavour of what to expect.
Naturally, it's proven to have the same effect as a dealer giving out the first hit for free, safe in the knowledge that the money will come flowing in soon.
So fKavanagh, if my wife starts giving me grief about our next Visa bill, I'm blaming her brother in law!!!!!!!!

Woooo its only a week from wednesday! Ive had my tickets since the gig was announced! Any one else staying in jurys? oh and to the person wondering about the bars in the venue itself.... well they are more like little stands in the lobby where you can purchase beer, theres not seating really and they dont let you take alcohol inside the actual concert and they charge rip off prices so i wouldnt count on drinking there before the gig! jus a lil heads up. I wonder if the band will go somewhere for drinks after the gig.

Hey all. I am from LA and Living here in Dublin the last 8 months. If anyone would like a little heads-up on things or need some questions answered, I will try to help. I am by no means an expert about Dublin, but might be able to help. Just PM me and I will get back to you ASAP. You might want to refer to one of my prior posts in this thread for some tips on transprotation and some other things I touched on.
Is anyone planning a meetup BTW? It would be great to get something going. Renegade28 is right, there is no need to get drinks at the venue when you are in the best bar/pub town on earth. Also, walking is easy enough around Dublin, but you should be able to get a taxi easy enough on the way to City Centre, if not at the venue.

One note:
At the same night and time of the show is the Champion's League final between Liverpool and AC Milan. That means the town should be especially jumpin for a Wednesday. Might make getting a taxi more difficult, but is a good tradeoff if you plan to hit the town after the show. Pubs pre-show should be pretty packed also. Lets hope for a Liverpool victory so the locals will be extra fun as opposed to a bit tilted! :multi

I will be in Dublin for the show the 22nd-25th, staying at the Abbey Court Hostel near Temple Bar. Looking forward to meet up with any other DMB fans who will be there as well. I am also doing the tour of the guiness brewery the next day, I recommend anyone interested go to http://www.guinness-storehouse.com/ to buy a ticket in advance. You can still go when you feel like but you get to skip the line and get a discount as well.

Went to D & T in Glasgow and Amsterdam, I'm on exchange in Stirling, Scotland from Toronto, Canada and making the best of it. Met some cool people at the Amsterdam show from the USA staying in Ireland for the year working. I wasn't planning on making it to this show but I just found out my last exam ends at noon on the 23rd, so right after that I'm hoping on the train and plane over to Dublin, landing at around 5:45 and heading over to the Point, enjoy the show, hopefully bump into some familiar faces then off to a pub / airport to wait for my 6:30am flight back to Scotland.
so question (now that you all know my life's history), what's the best / cheapest way to get to the point from the airport? and how much would it cost?

The cheapest way to point from the airport to the point would be bus id say, theres busses that run to the city centre. Although a taxi would be faster if u were stuck for time but would cost you a bit more.

Only 2 days to go till DMB play right here in Euroland- I cannot wait!
I'm flying across from sunny Scotland on Wednesday -which just happens to be my birthday as well.
Saw Dave and Tim in Glasgow earlier in the year which was fantastic, and Dave in London last year which was good, but never thought I'd actually ever get to see the whole band.
Reading through the messages, there was some talk a few days back about a meet up for light refreshments before (and after??) the gig- anyone still up for this? Its Champions League final nite as well, so the craic will be amazing.

This is Kevin. We met up in Amsterdam before the show for some, err, coffee. I live here in Dublin and will be at the show. You are gonna be on a tight schedule to make the show if you land at 5:45. The cheapest way would be for you to take the aircoach bus into town. You can check it out at www.aircoach.ie. The only one I know goes from the airport to city centre for €7. Then you could walk to the Point (20 mins) or get a taxi (€8-10). If you can afford it on your time crunch, get a taxi straight from the airport to the show. Should be like €25 and probably worth it to get a better seat.

Looking forward to the DMB show and being in Dublin for 2 nights. We have to pick up our tickets before the show...at will call. We have 2 seated and 2 standing...and only 3 people going. Row A for the seated. Anyone need a seat at this late time? I'm guessing that my brother and his friend will take the standing. Offering it at cost, to meet up the day of the show. Ok let's plan on the Harbourmaster (at the IFSC) then? As for time, I'm quite envious of those of you on holiday, but I can be there anytime around 4. I know some people who have GA tickets will want to be there early, I have seats (through the warehouse) so am not as pressed for time as others, but an early start will ensure we can all meet up for a few and those who want to line up early can do so while those of us still around can enjoy a few more pints before we head (stumble?) over for the show.

Well, i've been going at a gruelling pace, and if this were Oregon Trail, I'd have dysentary and die. Or lose 2 oxen.
Well, we rented a car and toured the country. We spend a few nights in Dubin when we first arrived. FRIGGIN GREAT CITY. Then we headed north, to belfast, then just drove along the coast and saw everything there is to be seen. giants causeway, the ropebrige, tourist stop after tourist stop, we had a pint in just about every little village we come across, and would finally crash when we deemed that neither of us were in any condition to operate a motor car on the wrong side of the road (Haha). It's been a great tour, and we've met some amazing people along the way. We've made our way down the west coast down around the south, then cut up through Limerick and Tipperary, bought some wooly things for the girlfriend in a great town called Spiddal, and now we're back in Dublin, just checked into our hotel, had a few pints, and decided email the girlfriend, and thought I'd check in here. We hit the Jameson distillery, the guinness factory, four courts, dublin castle, the waterfront, and partied till the bars closed in Temple Bar... so who knows what we're in for tomorrow. Tonight we're finally going to rest, go have a few more pints, then die in the room... we've been going so fast, that its great to finally get a chance to slow down and stop. Picked up a lot of whiskey from Jameson and Bushmills, Bushmills has a "reserve" whiskey that you can only get at the distillery, the only difference is that its aged 2 years longer. There's a "reserve" jameson, but we're yet to figure out the difference in that one. We bought it anyway, because, frankly, we're marketings bitches! haha...
We'll, its close to 10:00 here, so that means more pints.
See you all at the show tomorrow!!!!

It's Dublin, they'd all be out drinking by then :p
As I understand it, its in the more industrial part of the docks, so I'd expect the area to look more along those lines. Have you ever been to the Manchester Apollo? Gorgeous venue, but its in a really rough place.
As for the venue itself its pretty famous as far as Ireland goes (help me out here Fint, where have you been!?), and although its not world-renowned like the Arena it does have a certain aura about it. David Gray did launch the larger part of his career from there.

The Point was a storage depot for trains and does look like a shithole from the outside. Inside is fine, facilities are basic but reasonable. It's due for a major refurbishment next year, and in about 10 years time, the whole Docklands area should have undergone a London like transformation.
Regarding the start time, Ticketmaster's website, The Point's own website and the ticket itself all give showtime as 7pm.

That usually means Butch Taylor and Rashawn Ross, because they aren't generally thought of when people think of DMB.

Hey everyone!
Just so that everybody knows: Special guest (=support act) is a band from Dublin called Delorentos (http://www.delorentos.net/) and they play at 7pm. -- DMB play at 8.15pm! (this is from a WH email)
Of course Rashawn Ross and Butch Taylor will then play together with DMB.
And by the way, I hope the show WILL be taped. If not, it looks pretty certain that the Brussels show is gonna be taped. But please, people, tell us if you wanna tape it youself, so that others don't have to do it (twice, thrice, etc ;))
Best regards,
Julian.

Glad to hear that the Brussels show will be taped, let's hope it's as good as the tapes that were coming from Australia at the start of the month!
Hope everyone in Dublin enjoys the show, i can't wait for Brussels and London next week.
