tascam 4-track-->usb adabpter-->???

Hello Everyone-
so I am recording to my computer from a tascam 4-track to a usb adapter. That being said the only program I could think of to finish the deal was the little windows sound recorder. It worked, but doesn't go past a minute in length. Are there other programs out there for doing this (is that why everyone is always talking about pro tools?), and what do you suggest? Anthing decent that is FREE would be huge!

they are probably demo programs if they only go to a minute..meening you will need to purchase one. i have a tascam 4 track, god i hate it.

I've looked around download.com...I'm just curious if any general recording program is good for stuff like this, and if that is the function of pro tools?

i have an older one and it records to tapes. i hate the quality.
