i think for Dreamingtree he uses a style for the intro that incorporates both fingersytle and a pick

It's really cool to watch close up. My boyfriend does it for some of the classical pieces he plays around with, but he's like a freakin' guitar prodigy.

^^ hold the pick between your thumb and index finger and use (mostly but not strickly) your middle finger to attenuate the strings

it's not anything special to do that, i'm not saying he isn't a good player but using a hybrid picking style doesn't by any means equal a guitar prodigy. it's very basic.

nice . . and the list grows (see, i just hate my ineptitude with a pick . . it's so damn frustrating, but i'm a passable guitarist without, thus the thread . . and my admiration for Mark Knopfler)
