I sat down and did some recording this afternoon... any feedback (positive or negative) is always welcome... however, i would appreciate if no one critiques the vocals (especially on "glass houses") as i did them all in one take (at times without editing them at all) and i'm sick as hell.
Listen to one... listen to none... listen to all of them. It's the offseason, I figure people are bored haha.

Circles - I like this one. It sounds fairly similar to a lot of your other stuff, but it is solid. I realize it is probably just your style, but it seems you like to mute and pick more rhythmish, but I think it would be good to let this song go a little and really strum it.
April Rain - See above. All your songs tend to run together a little it seems. I don't know if letting loose and really strumming it would change anything. That is my biggest beef with Jack Johnson. All his music is so simple and similar. He is a good songwriter and very talented, but I feel like he lacks creativity. I think you may be tetering on that edge with these songs.
Wisemen - This one had the nicest riff and nicest flow I thought. It seemed like a real, professional (don't know if you know what i mean) song. With a good backing band, slick baseline and such, you could have a great song here. Very Dispatch sounding. I really dug this one.
3 Step Drop - I have heard this one before and my first impression of it then is the same now. Decent riff that seems to be lacking something. I just think that I grow tired of the palm muting and stuff as the song wears on. I assume the long breaks are for band fills...
Glass House - solid. Very nice song. I don't really have any criticisms here. Just to make a recommendation (I don't know if you care, it is just what I thought) but I think a light percussion with a brush would be awesome.
All in all, I dig the music. I have listened to all your stuff before and you are very good. I realize I don't know much about music and I can't give you a professional critique, but as a casual listener, that is what I thought. Your backing band can turn your average tunes and make them awesome.
Heck, just filling them with a little piano in the back could make them great.
:thumbsup thanks for sharing. I always enjoy listening to your stuff.

Wow... thank you so much for taking the time to listen to all of them! I really appreciate the comments... I just had a free day to put down some of the stuff that i've been working on for the last 2 or 3 months. i've felt really creative and i've been writing... there's one more that's being worked on, too. I think I could have enough material together to have another full length album before i'm 21 (in october)... there are times when i really love this board :hump
p.s. i'm pumped about wisemen too, but my band doesn't dig it as much as i do haha.

i dont know why but i imediatly hear your voice and it reminds me of the guy from dishwala. your music is good, catchy at times too. it just seems simple. im no great myself, please dont take this the wrong way. lyrics are interesting, infact good. i just seem to lose interest the longer the songs progress. whoever mentioned the jack johnson similarity. i couldnt see it clearer if i tried.
your a talented musician and can write very well. i hope one day i can record and share my music in this way.all the best of luck in the future.

i appreciate the feedback... either way. however, i think a lot of the "jack johnson parallel" is based on production. my string color in recording and vocal mic setup are almost identical to the stuff jack uses in the studio. i like his music a lot, but i get bored with it becuase there isn't enough playing off one another in a band. luckily, i'm starting to work with other musicians... other sounds... to make good music. its a lot of fun.
i think if you heard a song with my drummmer/lead player/sax player (from 2 different projects), you would be a lot more interested.
thanks for the feedback, though... i appreciate it.

One of my favorite artists is Matt Nathanson and he gets as interesting a solo sound as anyone I have ever heard. I don't know if it is the 12 string or what... maybe you should try experimenting with that...
I would give anything to have a singing voice like yours. I get jealous every time I listen.
EDIT: Also, I don't know what kind of bass player you have, but I think an upright bass would compliment your sound awesomely.

gracias guys... its just fun to play and have people say that they like it... that they can feel it/groove to it/etc... but people who aren't that musically talented can still get people to listen and groove (see: bob dylan), so i would kill to have the presence/musicality of a guy like that... its what i'm working on haha

I really dug all of the music. The guitar does sound a bit alike but I'm sure that is your style, but I personally really like it. Your voice sounds amazing in all the songs. I am curious to see what the music will sound like when it is finished with the band. Keep up the good work

Yeah, me too. To me, it feels like he is missing something and once that is put in, he is going to have some amazing music. :thumbsup
