Wtf? Is it just me, or does DMB not seem to fit the genre of all the other bands in this festival? If this is early June, will summer tour be after it?

Maybe I'm not really up to date with the band, but since when did they start classifying themselves as hard / alternative rock?

I think this could possibly be the worst idea ever regarding DMB at festivals.

These are normal festivalbands in Europe. There is no such thing as a jamband scene over here compared with what you see at Bonnaroo or Vegoose.

These kinda festivals are DMB's best bet to get their name known in Europe. I believe that's what they wanted and I'm happy with that :thumbsup

Wait!

Rock am Ring is - whatever they call themselves - a modern rock festival! And don't forget, that between 1995 and 1997/1998, DMB played at Rock am Ring each year!

Even though, if you look back at the 80's and the 90's, you will notice that the bands were somewhat better (Bob Dylan, The Hooters, The Cure, Joe Cocker and Crowded House, to name a few). I wonder if popular music or if the festival itself changed...

I think you can say that Britpop is very popular at the moment (Mando Diao, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs)! It's still good to dance to! :lol

Happiest regards,
Julian.

PS.: I'll definitely attend the festival! :thumbsup

I don't think it will affect the US tour at all. This is less than a week after the Europe tour was going to end in the first place, and I don't think the US tour was going to start before the latter half of June anyway. I'm guessing about June 15 or 20 for the start of the US tour, with or without this festival.

I wouldnt be that upset if they didnt have a big summer tour this year and maybe had a more estensive fall/winter tour in the US ... just a thought

Shaping up to be a great festival again this year, there are some low points (I'm no Evanescence fan) but it's completely made up for by the return of the Pumpkins. I just hope they do a 50 date UK tour after this festival so I can get to see them :p

First off, Muse aren't a new band in any way, and they're also huge in the UK and Europe so it's hardly surprising that they're high up the bill. And I don't know why everyone's going on about how these bands don't suit DMB anyway, The Fray are opening up for them in Las Vegas. THE FRAY.

This is a typical European festival; likely they'd play something more indie in the UK if they were to, like Glastonbury, but the Rock AM Festival is massive in Europe so more for them.

01-27-2007, 05:55 PM
I wouldn't mind if they spent the whole summer over there, and we get an early fall through winter tour. The big amps early in the tour, and then the southern amps, then indoor venues.

Yea, but these will be SP's first shows (except a potential warmup show in Chicago). The unpredicatablity factor is worth it. Especially considering that DMB will be playing short sets of mostly radio songs.

I think it's great for DMB to play the festivals here in Europe. A lot of the festivals will be broadcasted on television and because DMB is a live band maybe they will reach a bigger audience here. So no waste of time but a very, very good thing!

I'm all for the band trying to get a greater european audiance and playing festivals over there, I just think that his particular festival is poor choice. Do you really think a hardcore korn fan, or a big my chemical romance fan is going to give DMB a chance? This festival, I beleive, targets an audiance that will not be open minded when it comes to DMB or be an audiance that will be drawn to DMB. I think they would have done better to pick a festival that doesn't have a lineup of mostly shitty hardcore artist.

Hi everybody,

this is my first post on this board. Let me tell you that Rock Am Ring/Im Park are among the best festivals in Europe. The line up is amazing every year. A lot of different style and a lot of good vibes. There are nearly
100 000 people every year that enjoy good music and having fun. The organization of these two festivals is great (3 stages). I think that it's great to be able to see Tool, Deftones, Alice in Chains, Metallica, The Darkness, Guns And Roses, The Streets, Pharrell, Jamiroquai, Alter Bridge, Opeth and Keane on the same bill (in 2006). Keep an open mind and enjoy music. I just hope that DMB will be considered as an headliner or at least as a big name and will not play during 45 minutes at 4 PM... That was the case for Alter Bridge last year and I was a little bit disappointed even if the show was great ! DMB is very far from being as big in Europe as they are in the US. A little bit strange but that's it.

I don't understand people saying that the band is losing his time playing those festivals : don't be so selfish and let european people appreciate the moment !!! They should only play in the US or what ?

I'm waiting for them in Europe since 1997 like a lot of european fans and I will see them at least three times this year (Dave solo Paris, DMB Brussels, DMB Rock-am-ring, and maybe a few more !!!)

NB : I think that there are no presales for one day ticket but only for the three days pass. To buy a one day ticket you must come at the festival and buy it the day of the show. Can somebody confirm this ? I've always bought three day pass...

People here are very open minded and will let DMB a chance. Take a look at the bill in previous years : you will see that there are a lot of style represented. It's far from being a metal or hardcore festival. Everybody enjoy the show. If you don't want to see Slayer, you can take a look at Nelly Furtado or Morrissey.

I think what's happening here is that you're projecting your own narrow-mindedness on the European fans of those bands that'll be travelling to those shows. I know in the US you have your jam festival, and your Warped Tour, and your metal festival, and any music that doesn't belong there the crowd won't stand for that shit. But European festivals are a lot more varied, as such the crowd's are, and as a result everyone just kind of enjoys everything.

Agreed. When the mood strikes, I enjoy listening to Slayer, Korn, and other bands that will be playing that festival, and I would not consider myself a narrow-minded listener.

IMO, My Chemical Romance can die, for all I care.

muse, stonesour, dmb, smashing pumpkins...... each of those bands individually would be 30-50 clams......

and with muse, to many people they dont get it..... i dunno, i just really like them..... and i love how some people are calling them some crappy new band (not here per se... people i know)

as far as the narrowmindedness...... europeans seem to have festivals with no set genre.... they like the mixing because it gives bands and fans a chance to listen to alil bit of everything......

at least avenged sevenfold ain't there :-)

From now on, the 3-day pass costs 125 € (~ $150).

BTW, there is some likelihood of Paolo Nutini playing at the festival (according to his official website: http://www.paolonutini.com/gigs/). And I'm also still keeping my fingers crossed for Gogol Bordello!!!
