I am completely embarrassed and nervous about creating this thread so please work with me. I have been on these boards for quite some time now but I usually dont post. I like to read all the time though. I am a senior at the University at Buffalo and I am going to the Gorge this summer for my graduation present. My only problem is that I am coming all the way from Rochester NY BY MYSELF!!!! I have tried to ask my friends to come but no one will. For me this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am doing it no matter what. I am looking for some people who have been to the Gorge before who are willing to take a fellow ant under his/her wings for the weekend and help me out. I dont want to come all the way to Washington and not know anyone or know what to do. I understand that it is thought that the concert will be this upcoming Labor Day Weekend. I am flying and need a lot of help. I know that this might sound weird to people but I consider myself to be cool as fuck and I love DMB! Anyone who can offer any help it will be greatly appreciated. I know that it is early but I am trying to make some kind of connections before the tickets are available to Warehouse members. Thanks for your help!

Do you want to camp or stay in a hotel???
Check the gorge thread, there is a lot of good information in there that will help you with your plans...

I don't really care. The only thing is that I won't have a car there. That is why I more or less need to go with other people once I arrive in Seattle.

I have read the Gorge thread from last year. I may not have asked the question well enough but I am trying to get together with some people while I am there because I am going to be flying to Seattle by myself and I dont want to spend the entire weekend with myself. I am willing to camp or hotel it. I would just need some help from someone. I completely understand if people don't want just some random guy to hang out with them and their friends but I thought that it might be worth a try. If there is someone who is open minded to taking a chance to get to know me before then than it might not be so wierd. That is why i am trying to initiate something now.

I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a group to hook up with... If you camp, most groups rent an RV in seattle and drive out to the Gorge... If you hotel it like I did and am going to, most groups rent a car and drive out to the gorge...

I have absolutely no preference to camping or hotel,...Money is not an issue to anyone who is concerned. My basic need right now is just finding a cool group of people to enjoy the weekend with.

How much did a plane ticket run you from PA?
I went last year from NY (JFK) and a round trip ticket will run you about $400
I'm actually moving back to Seattle from Long Island around the end of July, so I will definitely be going back again this year!!

I went by myslef last year, but I rented a car. I don't camp, so I usually stay in Moses lake at a hotel when I go. I'm not gonna camp this year either, so me and my girlfriend will more than likely be at a hotel in Moses Lake again.

I do my own things when I go. I'm pretty familiar with the area and just hang out in Moses Lake during the day and then head down to the shows at night. Always a good, good time!

I would just plan on coming, everything will work out.
I'm staying in a hotel but would recommend that you experience the camping atmosphere. I realize you need answers now but once dates are announced everyone else will be thinking about their Gorge plans. It's easy to crash with campers. Hang out in the Gorge thread and you will find people.
If you need help, let me know and I'll find campers for you. If that doesn't work out, you can stay with us.

This year will be my 4th year in a row at Wildhorse and I wouldn't camp anywhere else at the Gorge for several reasons:
1. The People, I have met so many cool people at Wildhorse the past few years.
2. The Shuttle, the shuttle you to and from the shows.
3. The Food, they have the best damn camping food I have ever experienced!
4. Cleaniness, they do a fantastic job keeping the campground clean.
5. And yes they do have "quiet time" which is a good thing for those that would like to catch a few hours of shut eye.

I don't post on here much but I've been to the Gorge plenty of times so I can give you my two cents:
First, out of any option, I would definitely recommend camping as opposed to getting a hotel/motel. For me, a big part of the DMB/Gorge experience is being able to have fun and party with cool people in a campground atmosphere before and after the shows. If you fly all the way out here from the East Coast you certainly don't want to be short changing yourself. There is really nothing like it. Besides, most of the campgrounds offer showers and other amenities so its not like you'll be roughing it. Just pack a small tent and some other essentials and you'll be good to go.
If you do decide to go the camping route, you'll need to decide on a venue. The four major venues that most people camp at are 1) the Gorge Campground, 2)Wildhorse Campground, 3) Getty's Cove, and 4) Vantage Campground.
Gorge Campground - This is by far the largest campground of the four. Its basically a giant grass field right next to the Gorge where everyone parks and sets up camp. I haven't camped there in a few years but I've heard its improved quite a bit (at least they don't enforce alcohol restrictions like they tried to do in the past). This is a great place to party and meet new people, and its definitely the closest to the Gorge (walking distance). The only bad things about this place that I can think of is that it is somewhat expensive and there is little or no shade (no trees), which doesn't seem like a big deal but it is when it gets hot. I'm guessing this is the place that most out-of-towners stay because it is the only campground they hear about online.
Getty's Cove - This is another large campground that I don't hear mentioned too often on this site, but it has become my favorite. The people that run it only allow about 30 or so reservations each weekend; the rest of the camp lots are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. For DMB shows, this campground is always near capacity and is a lot of fun. There are plenty of trees on the campground, so there is usually good shade, and its right on the river so you can go swimming (or bridge jumping) during the day. One thing to note is that there is no real curfew here -- this can be a good thing if you want to party but it can get annoying if you are trying to sleep at an early hour. Another thing is that it is about 30 miles from the Gorge, so you'll either need your own car or you'll need to hitch a ride from other concertgoers, which is usually pretty easy to do. For some shows, they do offer a shuttle service, but you have to pay for it.
Wildhorse - I personally love the Wildhorse campground, although I haven't been there for a few years now, as I have been staying at Getty's Cove as of late. The family that runs this campground is awesome. They also cook a mean breakfast and dinner at their lunch truck for cheap. Like the Gorge Campground, it is very close to the Gorge (they offer a free shuttle service to the show), but there are no trees and therefore there's no shade. Camping there is fun, but it is also pretty tame. There is a curfew enforced there and I think that is why they tend to draw an older crowd. There is still a lot of fun to be had there though. The campground is smaller than the others and it seems to sell out pretty quickly--if you decide on this one I would try to reserve a spot ASAP.
Vantage Campground - I personally haven't camped there but I've gone there on the day of shows to go swimming (it is also on the river). It seems to have a more mellow crowd, similar to Wildhorse, but I've also noticed a few campers with full kegs there (and the police officer strolling around didn't seem to mind). Its a smaller campground, but it is right in the town of Vantage, so you are close to the gas station and a couple of restaurants. You would need to commute to the Gorge, but like Getty's, if you get to know some people camping there, you shouldn't have any problem hitching a ride.
On Car Rentals - It is true that for most car rental companies, you must be 25 in order to be able to rent from them. However, I was still able to rent cars before I was 25 by signing up with a company called Student Advantage. The offer discounts to college students for a small membership fee, but the biggest advantage (for me at least) was the ability to rent cars through them. It might be worth looking into, just go to this site: www.studentadvantage.com (http://www.studentadvantage.com). I'm not sure if they still provide this service, but they did for me a few years ago.
Best of luck!

These days almost any car rental company will rent someone a car under the age of 25, they just charge extra fees (normally at least 25+ bucks)

Hey,
Just to let you know that 4 of us flew out to Seattle and rented a car from Enterprise. We were all under 25. We just had to pay a little bit of a premium for the insurance, but other than that it was great, they also upgraded us to an SUV from a compact car for free. Definitely a good choice and we're just gonna go ahead and book an SUV this year cause there is definitely not enough space in a compact car for all of the supplies needed. Hope you make it out there this year. It's a great time.
