if you have a tuner, turn your E string down(looser/clockwise) one step to D.
just like you would tune for E, you tune it until it reads D.
if you turn it too far and you get C or C#, just turn it counterclockwise...etc. :)
also, if you don't have a tuner, it's pretty easy to tune drop d by ear using the open d string.

i'm not sure why it would be on dmbtabs at all, really. it's basically as simple as chris described. though, if you don't have a chromatic tuner, it might be trickier for you. as he said, though, you're only dropping the low E string down to a D. nothing else changes. if you have a tuner that only displays the standard tuning notes, you can just tune the low E down until you can hold down that string on the second fret and it reads as an E on the tuner. it's very easy.

I can usually just do it by ear now, but back when I would first tune to Drop D my tuner only showed if a note was E, B, G, D, A, or E. If you have a tuner like that the easiest thing is tune down and play the low E string on the 2nd fret and your tuner should show an E. I know it seems obvious, but maybe some people who are just starting with guitar might not realize it.

if you know how to tune by using harmonics(i think that is what it is called??) the e string harmonic on the 12 fret should be in tune with the d string open if it is in drop d. how many of you knew that?!?
