JimThe mayor pro-tem sent out an e-mail to town citizens. The part of the email that we care about follows-

Concerts at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco:
If you got to see any concerts at Pizza Hut Park last year, then you know it is a great place to see a concert. They are planning on having 10-12 major concerts there this year and some of the acts that are considering playing here in 2007 include:

Edgefest
Jimmy Buffet
Kenny Chesney – middle of June
Rascal Flatts – mid-August
John Mayer
Nickelback
Dave Matthews Band - October
Willie Nelson
RBD

Stay tuned for details and also check out www.pizzahutpark.com (http://www.pizzahutpark.com/) for more information.

The venue is a soccer stadium that has a stage permanently built into one end. It's in Frisco, TX.

http://www.pizzahutpark.com

I think they'll release their concert list sometime in March.

Halleuia! No Coca Cola Starplex-Smirnoff- for the Dallas show. Ive seen 7DMB shows there and at the AA arena and im excited to see a change of venue from both. Has anybody seen a concert at the new pizzahut park in frisco? i would imagine it has a lot better "pre-show tailgating potential" than the concrete jungle known as the Starplex.

So glad they are leaving Smirnoff behind. Terrible screens, a crowd that doesn't pay attention to the show, and its surrounded be concrete walls so there is absolutely no breeze. The band wasted a great set on a crappy venue last year. Anyway, on a lighter note, I can't wait for the shows this summer. The Texas shows always have great energy.

41antzmarching
02-15-2007, 03:39 PM
Another OK DMB show would be sweet, but probably wont happen until the new downtown Tulsa arena is finished next year!!! Not to many bands/performers are makin return trips to the Ford Center in OKC cause the acoustics are horrendous for concerts. In fact some concerts (ie- John Mayer) are reverting back to doing shows across the street at the much smaller (and older) Cox Convention Center (formely the Myriad). But DMB back in Oklahoma would be nice!!!!

i think we will get 3 texas shows this year...woodlands, frisco, and dallas. if pizza hut park is already pretty much confirmed and you know they won't leave out the woodlands then i don't see why they would just not go to smirnoff. they used to play 3 shows in Texas all the time so who knows maybe pizza hut part is just taking the place of selma.

pizza hut park will be a great experiment!!! it cant be worse than the last (3) venues they played in the Dallas area: Starplex, American Airlines arena, and Texas Stadium. AA isnt a bad venue, but DMB+summer= outdoor venue. and yes houston and san antonio are different markets. slim chance that they do show at starplex tear down stage set and drive less than 45 minutes to setup and play frisco

Nice plan! I'll most likely be in Dallas or Austin next year, so I'll be road-tripping in myself. I grew up in Houston though, so I've seen a ton of shows at the Woodlands, I have lots of good memories there. My one complaint is the lack of good tailgating (or at least when I used to go.. it has been a while). For those of you in the WH, do you generally get good seats for the Smirnoff Center? Are you looking Dallas or Woodlands?

If Woodlands, they have a ton of great hotels right smack dab by the venue. Within walking distance.

Last year, I stayed about 10 minutes away close to the interstate. I parked in the movie parking garage for free. It worked out really well. And the Woodlands has no tailgating, except for small gathering in the parking garages.

I'm going to do both actually. Thanks, good info. Bummer about the parking situation. I'll definately be looking for an Ants gathering pre-show. That's where half the fun is from what I've experienced.

Anyone with suggestions for hotels? Also, do y'all do an Ants meet up in the lots before the shows?

Marriott Waterway for woodlands and Hyatt Regency in downtown dallas is where our group usually stays. There will be gatherings planned the closer we get to the shows. Both hotels I mentioned have bars that we've pregamed at in years past.

Not if your just joining....you'll get something in the 200s.....i've been a member for about 4 years, and i get all my tickets off the message boards, there are usually plenty for sale on there come about 1-2 months before the show...that's the only reason i stay in WH.:cool

I just did the same thing, so we'll see. I have a feeling I'll be getting 200's as well. Sucks, cause that means I'll have to pony up some big $$ for 100's or find some lucky soul here selling them for face. It's a crap shoot none the less.

congrats pal :thumbsup . Sounds like a great way to start a marriage...last summer tour me and my now fiance went to the two texas shows, and before the woodlands my fiance and i spent a day in galveston...i bought a nice suite that was on the ocean, i took her fishing, we ate sea food at night, had some good drinks, and after that i walked her along to shoreline, walked onto a stone bluff that reached into the ocean...we talked for a while and then i proposed...it was a good trip.

Hello all,

My fiance and I have decided to do a DMB honeymoon. We get married Sept. 2nd, but the band takes a break right after The Gorge, so we're going to delay our honeymoon until later in the month to maximize our DMB Road Trip. We're going to hopefully start in The Woodlands and then we'll hit the next 7 shows. But we're in unfamiliar venue territory....we're normally Bonner Springs, Alpine, Chicago venue people. I was hoping some of you would be kind enough to help with any info you can give about good places to stay close to the venue, tailgating or bars around the venue....info like that. It's not your typical honeymoon, but how often do you get to follow a band around for 12 days? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!!

i know royce just used the strap and looped it through the hole in the boxer shorts so it just dangled. they didnt even check me.

To those of you asking about meeting places for the Woodlands, some of us met up at the Marriott bar last year, since you can't tailgate anywhere. Beers weren't as expensive as one might expect. Anyway, only a small group of us met up there (I think some of the other Ants not being 21 at the time hindered a larger gathering).
I think that's going to be the best bet for this year.

Honestly it is getting wild. Two shows for me is hitting me at $300, plus the drive from el paso to houston/dallas, back to El Paso...food and hotel...a little too much for me, but for some reason i choose to face the debt for dMb.

they should have a college lottery...where say, 100 tickets for each show are specially priced for college students. they make you enter your .edu email and student ID number to enter the lottery...and tickets cost maybe 45 dollars for reserved and $30 for lawn....they throw all the names in a pot and pick the lucky 100 students that get the price reduction.

I know that the past two years there has been free parking at Dallas. They offer you VIP parking as you are pulling in gate for $20, but it's not that much better than the free parking.

The Woodlands Pavillion doesn't really have much parking of its own. I usually just park a the Woodlands Mall which is right by the Pavillion and just walk from there. Its a really nice place, and theres not a bad seat in the house unless you show up late and are way back in the lawn. I have sat in the lawn every time i've been (5 times) and its always a good time, just bring a blanket or soemthing to makr you territory.

No one in my group got carded for anything last year. They DEFINITELY don't card you just for coming in the bar. Ordering drinks may depend on the waiter/waitress you get.

I was originally supposed to go to the gorge, but that fell through, anyway, I my grandparents live in Saginaw, not that any of you have heard of it, but it's pretty close to Ft. Worth, so I was thinking about maybe going to visit and going to see a show, or maybe both of them, and I have a couple of questions...

which is a better place to see the boys, Dallas or Houston? and if i"m thinking of going to both does anyone no how long the drive is from Dallas to Houston?

any opinions would be greatly appreciated :thumbsup

Traffic is bad if you are coming from the north. Not just with DMB. All the concerts i have been to at Smirnoff have had horrible traffic coming and going. There is pleny of parking but the later you get there the longer you have to walk.

I have never been to the woodlands but I have been told its nicer then Dallas. I am gonna do both this year because it is Friday/Saturday and I only have to take a day off work. Its about a 4 hour drive from North Dallas. It also give me a go chance to take a detour to Shiner, TX.

I think every other venue I've been to is nicer than Smirnoff except for maybe Darien. But once the show starts none of that matters.

I actually prefer Smirnoff to the San Antonio venue, but the Woodlands is sooo much nicer. I havent seen them in the Woodlands in a while unfortunately :-(

I think it's really easy to get into Smirnoff, I've never dealt with too much traffic, and there's always plenty of parking. Of course, like they said, it's quite the blah, unimpressive venue

Hey,

I went to UNT. Denton's a nice place. I'd much rather go to the Woodlands than Starplex. To me there's a much better vibe there than Starplex (or whatever they're calling it this month). Not that it matters, but the Woodlands is in a much nice area. Nice tall trees, park vibe, etc.

little did i realize but a good friend of mine i've made since college is actually FROM the woodlands (he usually just says houston to keep it simple). so a group of about 6 of my buddies or more are coming from LSU to the woodlands and crashing at his parents. i think we're just going to get lawn tickets though; most of us have seen him before, the ones who care enough to want to be seated in the front anyway, and have experienced that before, so just to keep cost down, lawn seats this tour.

I've actually never sat pavillion at the Woodlands for DMB, but I've done the lawn twice. Both experiences were really great and I didn't have any problems, which I definitely can't say for my Alpine lawn experiences (at least when compared to the pavillion ones there)! The women are pretty lovely. You can expect some wierd weather. But most of all you can't go wrong it's tons of fun and you're living in a pretty fun area.

He's supposed to pitch. If nothing changes in the rotation. I picked one hell of a weekend to go to Boston. Can't wait.

I'm going to reach deep in my closet for some winter clothes for Boston.
