Greetings fellow ants!
I hope that everyone is doing well. This is becoming an annual tradition for me posting the Deer Creek Thread. I thought we could use the Deer Creek for Sale thread, But that is just too damn depressing!
For those who don't know, Live Nation has placed Deer Creek for sale. Now, we are not sure who or when someone will buy the venue. We are approaching this year as our last. We hope that is not but no one knows. So with that being said we are in the booking process for the summer. We do have a few shows on tap thus far. Plus, we will once again have DMB.
Since it is February there are not a lot of details. I am hoping that in the very near future we will have the dates nailed down for DMB. As we go along I will be here to answer any questions that you may have about the venue, camping, hotels, and traffic. I do want you all to know that traffic is going to be something that we are working on. Basically, State Road 238 is gone coming in from I-69 to the venue. If you come from I-69 you will come down the new access road. There really is nothing that we can do. This is the state of Indiana and Hamilton County. My advice camp near the venue. If you can't camp arrive as early as possible. More information to come as we go along.
For those who don't know me I am on the management team for the venue. My name is Kyle and I have been working at the creek for 8 years now. I have worked in a vast number of roles but finally found my home on the management team.
As always I will around so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
I DO KNOT KNOW WHEN DMB WILL BE HERE. Believe me once I know you will know.
I hope everyone stays warm here in Indiana it is down right cold!
Watch the superbowl and cheer on the Colts!
Cheers,
--Kyle

As much as it sucks that the venue may be/probably closing after this year, at least we know that before the shows. I mean if they had shut it down before this summer season, it would have really sucked to not have known that it was the last "Deer Creek" last year when we were there....
I mean, I'm just glad I know ahead of time that this could be the last Deer Creek weekend for me, forever :( You can bet for sure I will be there at noon the day before the concerts ready to spend three amazing days hanging out and drinking, with some great friends, while jammin' out to some great music.
Deer Creek 2007 I can't wait!!!:monkey

Just because Live Nation sells it doesn't mean it will cease to be a music venue. When you sell a house does it cease to be a house? Is there an identified buyer with plans to tear down the amphitheater and build something else? Someone sold it before and it didn't change anything so perhaps a sale isn't that significant.
kgiles21

You are correct. However, with the development going on around the venue cahnces are high that someone will buy to build other things in its place.
Hopefully we stay a music venue. But, no one really knows.

Thanks for all the information you pass on and questions you answer each year. I'm really excited for another summer with DMB at the Creek. If the shows are anything like this past summer, we are all in for a hell of a treat. I really hope that this summer isn't the last time I get to see them at Deer Creek, but if it is then they have given me 9 years of absolute bliss.

Thanks for the thread Kyle. As a Noblesville resident, I cannot wait for DMB to come back. But I cannot see Deer Creek as anything but a 203 acre corporate business park after this year :(
I am going to attend both shows in Vegas, however many shows DMB plays here, and maybe even Wrigley if I am not dead broke by then. I think your staff will have to drag me out of the venue the last DMB show this summer. I am going to miss the hell out of Deer Creek.

2007 = DMB Deer Creek
XLI (#41) Colts vs. Bears
Colts win and DMB kicks ass! What could be better? I would say a peace in the Middle East but we're more likely to see dinosaurs and dodo birds come back from extinction.

you may not have much insight on commercial real estate development.

i have none. but oak mtn amp here in bham has been sold numerous times and is still an amp. i was just trying to ease the worry that deer creek would get demolished. and the area around oak mtn amp is developing rapidly. it benefits everybody to have a concert venue there though.

Desperate alternative measures to save Deer Creek #1:
Background
Residents of Cincinnati need not worry about a pending sale of their beloved Riverbend Music Center. The Ohio River floods that venue just enough to render that real estate unattractive and unappealing to land brokers and The Rolling Stones.
Solution
A stream runs right through the 203 acres of the precious land Deer Creek occupies. If we can find a way to secretly dam this stream at some point down stream temporarily after a big storm rolls through, we just might be lucky enough to flood the venue just enough to scare off prospective developers.
Requirements
Beavers -- lots of beavers
Rain Dance
A Horseshoe -- for luck

I think you may be right especially now that we know the new album will be dropping in July (see thread in DMBc). Knowing this and assuming the tour starts arond that time, Kyle can you tell us whether the days DMB has on hold are "earlier" or later on in the summer? I know you cant tell us specifics .... I am just hoping Deer Creek, Wrigley, and Alpine are a little spread out because I am going to all three!!:bounce

I don't care when DMB heads to Deer Creek, just as long as it's NOT July 6th and 7th! I am in a wedding on the 7th, which I clearly couldn't miss....and I would be devastated if that happened to be Deer Creek weekend! I also hope that, they don't change the Wrigley dates to earlier so that they land on that weekend.....
Basically, DMB for me to be happy, DMB cannot play at Alpine, Deer Creek, or Wrigley on July 6th or 7th....but especially Deer Creek! that's not too much to ask, right? lol

Well Ozzfest is at the Creek July 23rd, so scratch anything from the weekend of the 21st and 22nd I guess. Assuming they boys play the weekend, which is what I'm thinking they will do.

Just curious as to where you got this information. Ozzfest was here last year on July 23rd. They are slated to come back this year but I have not seen the actual date. As far as doing back to back shows, last year we did Brooks and Dunn on Jult 21st Def Leopard July 22nd and Ozzfest July 23rd. So we can turn the venue around overnight if need be. Its not fun be we can do it!
I'm not trying to call you out just curious as to where you received this information. On the ozzfest website the tour dates are from last year.

Last year was my first at this great venue, it was simply AMAZING! IMO some of the best shows of the summer. Unfortunatley, I did not get to stay for Night 2 due to a wedding in DeKalb, ILL. This year it will be both nights (assuming 2 dates are booked).
If this is the last yr for the venue ( /cry if it is) lets send its last DMB show out with a bang!

Ozzy Osbourne and wife/manager Sharon Osbourne held a press conference at the Concert Industry Consortium February 6 that was promised to be historic, and was. Osbourne dispelled rumors that he was retiring and announced the first free festival tour in the history of the U.S. "Ozzy's been touring for 30 odd years and he's done very well, and just wanted to give something back," Sharon said. The tour starts in San Bernardino July 7 and will continue through 25 cities including San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Hartford, Charlotte, Atlanta, West Plam Beach and Nashville. A final confirmed list of cities and dates is forthcoming. How this will work logistically is unclear, but it will be a ticketed event and is a Live Nation tour. "For the last few years, ticket prices have steadily climbed as artists demand more and more money for summer tours," Sharon said. "We certainly want everybody to make money, however we also want the kids to be able to afford to come out and have an incredible experience. If we continued with the traditional touring festival model, we would have no choice but to raise ticket prices again this year." The bands will not be paid. This gives artists an opportunity to get exposure by playing in front of thousands of Ozzfest fans, Sharon said. The artists will have the opportunity to secure other gigs during the tour. A lineup is expected within two weeks.

Kind of funny you say that. Last year my boss was doing some research to see what people say about the venue. He came across the Deer Creek 2006 thread. He calls me into his office and said that he was proud of me to do something like this. Then he said make sure you don't release information you are not supposed to.
So if you are reading this HI!!!
I sent an email to see the amount and see if I can release it. I think I can because I want to say there is a web site that releases that kind of information.

I was just reading in the latest edition of Rolling Stone that a good number of veteran bands (Metallica, NIN, etc.) are releasing new albums this year. Couple that with the fact that Ozzfest is free and David Lee Roth is touring with Van Halen this summer, one would have to believe if this doesn't give the outdoor concert scene a shot in the arm -- nothing will.
I personally don't believe this will change the fate of Deer Creek and other amphitheaters across the US. However, one can still hope. Not even a super bowl victory can mask the funk of the inevitable changes ahead.

In the original article posted in the Indianapolis Star annoucing Live Nations plans to sell the venue, there was an interesting point made. According to the article, the only reason the City of Indianapolis has not added a much larger ampitheatre at White River State Park is soley because there was always Deere creek and they did not want to use the tax payers money to build another one. Now that Deere creek is presumably at the end of it's road, the City may consider building a larger venue at W.R.S.P. How badass would that be with the skyline falling right behind the bank of white river?

I think my DMB summer tour fever officially kicked in this week. All I can think about is Alpine and Deer Creek, and the possibilities of going to venues I've never been to before.... Now comes the time of year when I sit in class and instead of taking notes I make camping lists, and setlist wishes, and well, it's just ridiculous.

This is what I have so far, so Deer Creek has to fit somewhere in this time period I would think.
July 13- 14th- Pittsburgh- Post Gazette Pavilion
July 24th- Toronto- Maybe?
July 25th- Darien Lake- Maybe?
July 27th and 28th- Spac- More than likely
August- 18th and 19th- Alpine- Pretty sure
August- 31st, Semptember 1st and 2nd- The Gorge- Almost 100 percent correct

Well with the tour being pushed back later, I am no longer worried about any dates in June. Now the only date I have to worry about is anything after August 22nd. And the only time they have played the Creek in August was in 2002. But hopefully I can make it. If not I only have Alpine.

Yeah I am just hoping there is some time like a month in between Alpine and Deer Creek. Since Wrigley is gone I have to think about hitting up Tinley again (boooo though I am assuming they would go there again) so I can hit up shows at the beginning and end of the tour. Of course it would be a bummer if all three concerts happened within a few weeks of each other. I like my DMB spread out all through the summer/fall!

I wasn't originally going to, but since this is potentially the last year, I will definately be getting some shirts made up. I already have a few designs in mind, but I'm still clueless on the colors.
Also, for the quote on the back, given the situation, I think it might be "All good things must come to an end sometime, so don't burn the day away" but I'm going to look around and see if any other lyrics catch my eye, those were just the first I thought of. That's all I have for now, maybe this year I will get a head start on these, kinda seems like I have already, lol...

I do like the idea someone mentioned about using "this is the last stop" but something about the Pig lyrics seem to make it more sentimental or something, I just like that it would mean, hey this is probably the last deer creek, enjoy it while you can.
But I guess we'll see what happens with the venue, maybe there's still a chance it will stick around....:shrug

I guess the old dmb saying, "it's not where you're at, but who you're with that really matters" is so true if deer creek is demolished. at least they'll still continuing to play ridick shows each summer. ugh, i hate development.

No truth to that at all. If we have been bought I think I would know. Second, if we were bought this fast we would not be having a concert season. If a reeal estate purchase of this size happened that fast I would think they would be tearing us down today. I can say they are not tearing us down today. I love all the rumors. I was in a gas station and I was wearing one of my VWMC jackets. The guy behind the counter tells me that he heard that we were bought two days after we went up for sale and the people who bought it were going to tear the venue down the next week to start building houses.
If I hear something it will be posted in this thread first.
On a side note. The snow can go away!

Let's hope the turnout at Deer Creek this summer is plentiful as the snow we have been bombarded with this week. One to three more inches over the weekend-- where the hell are we going to put it?
Speaking of rumors, maybe we can start a rumor that Deer Creek's 203 acres sits on a rather large sink hole. There's a quarry nearby that might add some credibility. I'm sure if we get a few more inches of snow, the dense snow will leave a depression in the lawn big enough to turn some heads.
This plane is more practicable and cheaper than my previous plan -- beavers ares costly.

It's so sad to hear about our beloved Deer Creek. That place took my concert virginity. It'll be sad to see it go- in theory. I'm literally 10 minutes from the venue. On the positive side (as I try to look at)- Summer is on the way! And that means the boys are on the way! I'm already trying to figure out HOW the hell I am going to score those Wrigley tix. My in-law lives in the city- I'll have to send her on a mission. Could you imagine- Chicago, the field, and jamming to the most amazing band ever!

If your actually IN the city 65 is fine, but if your outside the city and dont know the traffic pattersn your fucked. 65 and the skyway is a giant parking lot and can take HOURS to cross. I took 4 hours to get to indy cause i went south then over. Id rather be moving for an extra 1.5 hours than sitting in one spot.

I think as Kyle stated a purchase of this magnitude isn't going to happen overnight nor is building or tearing down. The 2007 concert season is already in motion with the few shows and dates of other artists showing up.
I also think it was mentinoned in one of the papers as the summer of 2007 would have concerts going on. Past 2007 isn't known.

Pfaffy41 made shirts last year, and I love mine. I wear it all the time. She's already contemplating making some for this year.
Any chance you could upload a pic of what it looks like?

First off, if I knew enough of you, I would organize this little "Photo- Op Send off". I'd LOVE to have a pic with all the Ants. Hmm... maybe a HUGE sign?
Second- is anyone else as FREAKING excited as I am, and it's only March (basically) OMG, this is going to be a long spring.
Damn those Europeans.
Seriously- I'll make a banner or something. Just love me. :)

I know this makes me seem like an idiot, but I'm not exactly sure how to upload pictures, or I would definately put one up from last years show, and I could even show you the one from '04....if I knew how to upload it, I'm assuming it's relatively easy, so maybe I'll try it....

I don't have a picture of the shirt or I'd do it myself. It's pretty easy though. When you make a post just go down to where it says additional options and click on "Manage Attachment." Then you just attach the picture.

I went and saw him this past Tuesday in DeKalb, IL (I go to school at NIU) and it was a pretty decent show. I had 7th row seats which was great, but I was a little disappointed with the set, having to hear all his radio hits excepts Daughters... But I will always be a little bitter at any shows of his that I go to if I don't get to hear Neon.....lol

Ok so review from this week - this thread has talked about DMB possible tour dates and nights (nothing has been announced), Pfaffy41's shirts, and John Mayer (I still have to get that new album and hey I wouldnt mind seeing him live again) and other various dates at the Creek. Is this a fair weekly review? Maybe I'll try to do this once a weekend so we all dont have to go through plowing through the numberous pages on here to catch up... well except i wont be able to do it next weekend... I'll be sailing on the eastern carribean! So thoughts on this?

John Mayer (I still have to get that new album and hey I wouldn't mind seeing him live again)Saw him Friday night at Nationwide in Columbus! Put on a great show. I will definitely see him at Deer Creek this summer! Very good show.:)
Hopefully, I can put my patience in check and wait a few more days to get ready to plan for our DMB summer!:D

Cant win a damn thing on the road. There tournament prospects are not looking that good. I hope DJ White does not go pro after this year. It's games like these that prove to me he is still not ready.

There is no one on thios team that needs to go pro.
Everyone keeps saying that IU is in the tourney. I don't know. We need to win the last two and go deep in the Big Ten Tourney. I'm debating if Im going to go to Chicago. I'm afraid we may look at that as a road game and get beat.

Looks like tickets will go on sale to the public for DMB 3/24.
That means we should have an anouncement this week sometime.

I agree. They still have work to do. If they win there last two, there is no question they are in. Their resume, RPI, and strength of schedule are all still up there. As long as they win the two games they are supposed to, the tournament will only determine their final seeding.

I agree very much so. But, that means we have to win on the road at North Western. I think we can do that....
I really want to go to Chicago for the Big Ten tourney. I know that my travel time is going away real quick with summer right around the corner.

If they are going on sale on the 24th. They would have to be announced this week to give the warehouse enough time to fill ticket requests.
I could see them pushing it back a week though. That's just me.

As far as I know yes. However, nothing is ever concrete.
I wont say for sure until I hear the confirmations that we are getting a show.

Kyle,
I thought Indiana was in good shape, until I just took a look at their schedule. It would definitely be in their best interest to get 2 this week to get to 10-6 in the league. You should get yourself to Chicago for the tourney, always a good time.
Looking forward to actual tour dates, so we can get rid of the rumors and start making plans. Thanks for your help last year planning my trip to Indy.
Go Badgers!

I agree we need 2 wins this week. I will probably end up heading to Chicago. I go when it is in Indy. I have never been up to see it in Chicago. With baseball season right around the corner ( Im a IHSAA baseball umpire) and the concert season i better take one last trip.
Go badgers (today)

if IU doesn't beat Northwestern and Penn State this week, then they don't deserve to go to the tournament to begin with.
None of the experts are even mentioning IU as a bubble team. Their RPI is in the low 20s, their SOS is solid, they don't have any terrible losses (Michigan on the road is iffy), a few really nice wins (Wisconsin, Southern Illinois, @ Uconn though they are undoubtedly down this year), and have not lost a game at home.
They need to take care of business this week, and they are a lock for the tournament. Even if they happen to lose on Wednesday at Northwestern, if they can beat Penn State and pick up a win in the tournament then they will still be in. When all is said and done, I'm betting IU will finish 21-10 and enter the tournament as a 7 seed.

Thanks for all the news Kyle I'm hoping to finnaly make it to Deer Creek this year since it looks like it wil be my last chance.
And I'll be cheering for Indiana for ya too. Would like to see them get a good seed in the tourney and being a Kentucky fan Indiana winning makes makes UK's win over them look much better.
