View Full Version : News About Wrigley and Maybe the Rest of the Tour

I posted this in the wrigley thread to but I thought it might deserve its own thread. I really have to give most of the credit to dancinnancy for saying something in the wrigley thread about the lake view citizens council meeting taking place. I went to the website and looked at the minutes and this is what I found.
Possible concerts at Wrigley Field – July 6 and July 7th – Mike Lufrano alerted everyone Dave Matthew’s wife is having a baby in July and cannot commit to perform on the dates we had in July. The Cubs explored alternate performers but then heard "The Police" is considering doing a reunion tour. This is a much older demographic and they are apparently interested in the same dates – Thursday July 5th and Friday, July 6th. David reported the Executive Committee has been working very closely with the Cubs to determine the framework under which the Cubs could have concerts over the next 5 years. Neither side wants to have to negotiate the details every year. David stated the number one priority is neighborhood protection. Number two is, because the 2007 concerts fall on the weekend of the Music Fest, how are we going to handle this. Most of the communities have supported the idea of concerts at Wrigley - - the majority is happy with the neighborhood protections that are proposed. Alderman Tunney putting forth legislation next week to City Council as it relates to neighborhood protections for concerts at Wrigley Field
Now I didnt know Dave's wife was expecting again so thats news to me. While I think this might throw out Wrigley this year, I also think we might have a overseas tour like planed into june then a break for Dave's baby and then the U.S. tour in July. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Hmm...interesting....
Yeah I have no idea what to make of this. No idea Ashley was pregnant, and I would be super bummed if there turned out to be no Wrigley. But hey, if it's true, congrats to Dave and his beautiful wife! :)
Can you also post a link to where you found this info? Thanks.

No problem I was shocked to find it and thought everyone here should know too. I guess we really wont know anything for sure untill we hear from the band, but I think this kindof gives an idea of sorts.

Everything is starting to make sense. Why Wrigley has not been confirmed, and why there is a tour date in Texas for October.
Oh and Thanks for the Heads up, great info!

Hey no problem. And thats what I was thinking too. You can kindof peice everything together now with the overseas tour going untill june and then U.S. dates being later in the year than usual. The only thing I cant figure out is if the July release date for the new cd is correct then I dont see much band promotion for it if Dave is expecting at that time. Maybe they just figure they have a whole summer tour to promote.

I just wonder if they will go from Europe right into the summer tour and then take off most of July with the second leg starting in August.

I didnt think about that I guess they could come right back and do the rest of June and like you said start back up end of July or early August. No matter what they do I think its going to be a diffrent summer then we are all used to.

i think this makes sense seeing that spacs earliest non booked weekend on their site is the last weekend in july ( 27th and 28th) and it makes sense if they plan on releasing an album in july then having a tour right after the realease.....i think this sets up for a good 3 month summer run then possibly a decent winter run....

As much as I'd love to see DMB at Wrigley, I can't feel anything but joy at hearing this news. I went to the Gorge in '01 and it was very close - I think the twins were born just days before those shows. Personally, I think it's wonderful that Dave puts his family first! :)

Zach... That is just plain selfish... I'm kinda annoyed that shows could run deep into the fall because it fucks me with going to shows but I'm happy for Dave and Ashley... I'm not selfish enough to think that Dave should plan kids around the summer tour...

I'm extatic. With the school year starting back up in August, I will miss most of the tour and save a crap load of money trying to travel around and see them in various places during the summer. Good news for Dave and Ashley, good news for me too!

Then where would it happen? The people that live in Wrigleyville would be directly impacted by shows there and would certainly receive notice of any sort of concert or "extra" event there. There were probably sighs of relief when the possible cancelation was mentioned.

I was doin some thinking about how all the scheduling will turn out and this could be fairly interesting.
Europe until late June
US Summer Tour late July - end of October/November
short break or just run summer>winter with a break in early Oct
Winter Tour mid Nov-mid Dec? It seems like they do a winter tour the winter after a new album comes out.
D+T Spring? it's been 4 years
back to regular start for summer 08
what do you guys think the posibility of this could be?

I guess it seems likely but I don't know why people are putting off a mid June start. I know Wrigly is a no go but last year they took july off because of the same reason. I don't see why they can't do that now. Actually, I could see them starting almost right after they get back from Europe since they may have most of July off. Maybe its just wishful thinking, but I still bet it starts in june with a long break in the middle and then a fall/winter tour.

I thought they were gonna be in Europe until like June 23rd, but the almanac has them ending on June 1st. That throws a kink into it. It would be weird for them to take like 2 months off when they dont have to, but it would also be kinda weird to take a 2-3 week break not even a month after starting.
Damn you Dave! He just HAD to knock up his wife so she'd be giving birth right in the middle of the summer. Thats so like him! :rolleyes
Maybe theres something special about this one. Maybe Ashley isn't giving birth, but shes spawning off an able-bodied son that plays guitar and tours with DMB, acting like a Timmy Jr. The only guitar solo-ing God toddler.

I think after their next album (the next one after the one coming out in july). Dave said in an interview somewhere that 2 more albums after stand up and then he would make a solo album. So maybe 2010 at this rate. I think next year if we get anything but DMB we will get Dave and Tim. We are do for one of those tours.

Ya, I know D+T did a few shows this fall, but I mean like a full out Spring Tour. They came to Scranton back in 1997 when I was like 9 years old and never heard of DM or DMB. I didn't know about them in 03 either. Now that I'm older and a huge fan, especially of the D+T acoustics, I'd love for them to tour again and come back here.
I'm also not really a fan of the D+F. I'm sure its fun to see, but I like the traditional stuff.

Thats one song i want to get off this list this summer. But who knows how many shows I can make now if it starts later. I sure hopes it doesn't. And, on a side note, has anyone heard anything on the nyc shows, i'm really curious if they are still playing randalls. I really hope this whole baby thing doesn't change the whole tour up. I mean you would think they would have known she was having a kid when they got into planning the shows. This can't be something they just found out (at least i wouldn't think). Personally I would think those Spac and Alpine dates are solid still but maybe thats just me hoping the tour starts early. I'm dieing to see this band again and I can't miss class for Vegas.
