Excellent! I'm trying to decide which show I want to attend! I may lean towards the Orlando Hard Rock Show since it holds less people than Ruth Eckerd, and I will not have to worry about the drive to and from Tampa :D

I think there are more people mid-state who might have a home that can house the crew. My condo is 600 sq ft, and Laura's apt is only a little bigger, so I think our places are out :lol:lol That's why I mention St. Augustine. Back in December, Laura and I went down there on a spontaneous overnight trip... our hotel was only around $60 + taxes, and it was within a 10-15 min. walk from the beach. Deals can be found!!!

Sorry for the long delay... after I got back from that weekend trip to Tampa and Miami, I went to the Jags-Steelers game. Monday night was TV night, Tuesday I was running errands with Laura, Wed-Thurs was Yom Kippur, Fri was Laura's birthday... and I'm finally getting back on Ants :)

Counting Crows were GREAT! Did you wind up going to WPB? I'm glad we went to Tampa and not WPB, since it was Maroon 5 headlining in WPB. And we didn't get quite as wet (although I still got wet at the game).

I think I was toast by Sunday night... after 3.5 hours in the car Friday, a concert, 4 hours in the car Saturday, a football game in the rain, and 5 hours in the car Sunday, followed by another football game. It's little surprise that I'm now fighting a cold...

I wish I could be there... but I'm hesitant to use 2 vacation days this early in the year for a DMTB show, especially when I'm taking off my birthday (feb 2), because it's such a rare possibility for me. DMTB used to come through this area... but they haven't in a while :(

Not a jumping city. . .but close to Miami and beaches (really nice ones) But very pricey to live in and in this economy it is something to think about. . .More old people than you're used to but not running rampid with them.

Since the PP DVD viewing party was a little over a year ago, I wanted to post this blurb about that experience which will always mean more to me than words will ever be able to describe:

1.12.08 "show" was a gathering, viewing party if you will, that was held in FL for the PP DVD and was attended by Ants from all over the country who I hold dear to my heart. Before we played the DVD @ 8:20ish mind you Sean (on guitar) and Ryan (on djembe) started playing Pig and everyone started singing along! This went on during an AFC playoff game on television so the extremely amazing part about this cherished experience for me is that we would pause during the song (after a refrain) and pick-up EXACTLY where we left out until we finished Pig. To date, this experience was the most incredible non-show DMB moment of my Life.

A part of me wish we had recorded this "version", yet a part of me is extremely glad that we did not because having just the memory of it in my head alone makes the entire moment FOREVER SPECIAL.

If Wichita is on your route, I would recommend that you visit the keeper (but make sure you visit the site at night so that you can get the full of effect of the flames, the bridge lighting and the majestic way Blackbear keeps guard over the river with stars :D

I believe it depends on a few factors: do you like camping? at what level do you camp: ranging from extreme wilderness to RV-style? which Gorge campground will you be at? There's a few e.g. The Gorge Campground and Wildhorse.

I've never camped. This year will be my first time. I believe with all the DMB fans at the campgrounds I find it hard to believe that you could have a really bad time.

-How much $/how far/what is the best hotel in the area if camping is meh

There is a Best Western nearby that the WH always blocks room for members (definitely reserve early if you decide to stay there). There is a site at Moses Lake; I’m unsure of the distance from the Gorge. I'm sure there are more in the vicinity. I stayed in a hotel in Yakima, which is about 45mins away. I would avoid that round trip trek if I were you.

-Is there public transit to the venue

I believe there is a trolley/van to and from one (maybe more) of the campsites. As far as city-type public transportation, I do not recall anything of the sort because the venue is literally in the middle of nowhere.

-How's the lawn

Obviously the closer you are the better. I remember when I went in 2005 I had plenty of room to dance all three nights and the fans around me were super cool! The grade is not steep at all, and the grass is well kept.

-Is there/how is the tailgating

You pretty much tailgate at your campsite (when you wake up until you go to bed) and I do not believe there are many police/security to hinder your fun especially based on all of the debauchery I've heard that goes on at the campgrounds.

-Which is better Gorge or Red Rocks

Again, depends on many factors: 2 shows (Red Rocks) vs. 3 shows (Gorge) - both venues are gorgeous in their own surroundings, but I must say that the Gorge is extremely more breath-taking than Red Rocks (but this is a personal opinion); who you are with; your expectations leading up to the shows; the setlists (any rarities; the band’s vibe; the crowd’s energy; Dave’s voice, etc.); your highlights of that weekend; the people you meet and the memories you make!

-Whats Gorge like compared to SPAC/Alpine/Deer Creek

Although SPAC/Alpine/Deer Creek are special in their own rite, but the Gorge is the Mecca that all DMB fans, who call themselves DMB fans, MUST make that pilgrimage to at least once in their lives!!!

I highly recommend the Toupstown page for camping info. In the Ants crowd, the majority of people favor Wildhorse these days, but you have some who swear by the experience at the Gorge Campground. It all depends on what you like...

If you're asking about public transit from Seattle to the Gorge... I don't think there is. Wildhorse has a free shuttle bus. Nothing needed for Gorge Campground... you're right there. I think you're on your own at the other campsites.

I don't think you can compare Gorge to those other venues. It's really in a league of its own, I think by virtue of the fact that you have very, very few casual fans who go there, because of the time and effort involved to get to the shows (you may get a few people from the west coast who just like to camp out and have a good time and figure the DMB weekend is a good time to do it). The fact that everyone there is "hardcore" to some extent really makes it a special weekend of shows :)

You don't know how crucial that is until you really think about 1000 people using the same ones for four days. Gorge does not do this. If you RV it the company will also pump your RV while you're at N3. Also, do not underestimate never ending hot water, and the ability to shower under the stars when you get back each night.

Probably around $1,000. Also, the Wildhorse camping passes for an RV are now $300 (at least, that's what they were last year), vs a car pass which is $120.

It's actually a bit more, and don't for get that it's always on a holiday weekend. My portion of the RV in '07 was $420. Some people paid less that didn't sleep on board.

I'm guessing most people here were just in the WPB thread, but in case you didn't see it/hadn't heard, Greg (groton)'s apartment burned down. He and his grandparents are okay, but they lost everything. The fire spread to other apartments in their building -- 18 people in all affected. An effort to help him and his family started on the WH boards and it's spread to here. He's still going to the Gorge -- he's getting new tix at Will Call, and some WH people in CT are helping him get what he needs for the trip.

Pretty good turnout at Potbelly's in Tallahassee last night. Not sure if any of you guys made it, but if you did, thanks for coming out. We'll be rocking the Push Ultra Lounge in St. Petersburg tonight if you aren't on your way to the Gorge. Doors open at 8pm, we'll take the stage around 9pm. Just took care of some road setbacks, but we'll be there in a few hours. Hope to see you guys there as well!

For my friends headed out west... have a great time. I say this every year, but I'm uber jealous and hope to get out there next year :p
