Hows this done? Id like to give it a shot to see how Sister sounds on my guitar. Ive played it with the cap on 2. Sounds ok but irritates me.

Don't retune the guitar, that'll fuck up the strings/bridge/prospectives for peace in the Middle East. JUst put the capo on 7.

Do they sell certain strings for raised B? If not what ones do you use?

OK, the first time I tried to string raise B, it worked like a charm. I loved it. Then recently, I decided to restring cause the strings were getting old. I started getting the strings on, and Im like a fucking octive too low. How does that even happen. Theres no way to tune up 12 half steps either.
Has this ever happened to anyone else??

Basically, get a set of extra light strings (I use elixars)
Then buy an extra B string (.016)
You're basically going to not use the E string, then move every string up one.
So the A string you put where the E string normally goes, the D where the A normally goes, etc.
Then take that extra B string, and put it on the bottom, where the e string normally goes.
Tune it to:
B
F#
D
A
E
B
And you are set to go. If you're guitar tuner doesn't go to F#, let me know. Your tuner should have a 'flat' option which will help.

So is "Raised B Tuning", the standard tuning for a baritone? I just realized I have no clue what a baritone guitar is... What kind does Dave play? What are some good other ones? (model numbers?)

Oh, also, does anyone other than Dave play a baritone guitar on some songs I might know?

Baritone is the same tuning as raise B, but its an octive lower (I think 1 octive). Baritone is a deeper sound than standard tuning.
Raise B Im pretty sure was created by Dave.

Baritone guitars are used quite a bit in country music... dwight yoakam, willie nelson. It gives that deep, twangy tone that lots of guitarists use on solos and fills. Beach Boys used them too I do believe... If you listen to I Get Around you can hear the baritone guitar used for the rhythm guitar.

So does Dave use baritone guitars for the raised b tuning songs, or does he just raise b tune a normal guitar?

Since baritone tuning is the equivalent of Low B tuning, no.
Listen to most of the Everyday songs (TSB, IDI, WYA), and Some Devil (song) to hear the Bari.
The Raise B guitar is his Taylor 714.

been around for a while.
if im not mistaken it was the fender jaguar bass IV that really started the "baritone" guitar thing back in the 60s.
usually true baritone guitars are halfway between a regular guitar and a bass, this includes the guitar not just the notes. its about 27-29 inch fret board.
sick looking guitars might i add. especially if you proportion them right, i personally think daves jerry jones is just a classy design.
is the new "tiny little guitar" raised to B also? i dont know much about it. plus we have to find out what that new guitar he used the other day is.

No, it's Raise D, technically, which is achieved if you put the capo on fret 10.

My old, first guitar is now in raised B and I like having one, though it's not a great guitar on the first place. The action is crazy high and there's nothing I can do about it, but it definitely sounds good when I'm in the mood to hurt my fingers :thumbsup
Someday I'll have a couple of nicer guitars including one acoustic for Raised B, I assume something cheap like a Fender or even less would be just fine?

Yes there are. But many can be done by tuning down or up with standard tuning, so its not a big deal to tune then tune back.

:lol I only play to play for myself, and the occasional friend or group of friends around, so I'm not interested in the most quality instrument (at least for a Raised B, secondary guitar). However I would go all-out for my standard guitar.

Yeah come to think of it almost any brand new $100 acoustic would sound better than my old one that's in raised B right now. I dunno why I just thought of Fender immediately as a popular but inexpensive brand. I know there are many out there

Beatles never used a baritone guitar. Closest they came was using the Fender Jaguar Bass VI, but that wasn't a true baritone as it's tuned E-e (an octave lower than an electric). It was so guitar players could get bass tones, but weren't used to playing bass, so it had a guitar feel. You can see Lennon playing it in the Let It Be video (could be Long and Winding Road, not positive).

Raise B and baritone are not the same. Im 95% sure Dave made the raise B tuning, but baritone has been around a while.
